Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - 5x01/5x02 - "Orientation" (P1 & P2) - Discussion Thread

Pretty solid start to the season for this show and I was honestly surprised by the dramatic shift in direction. I definitely was not expecting the reveal at the end of the first episode that they are in the future. I thought the CGI used in the outer space scenes mostly looked good for a TV budget. I also like the use of the Kree as the season villains and am curious how things will unfold.

So Daisy is now the most powerful character in the MCU minus Dormammu and Surtur?

LOLOLOL.

This is why I stopped watching this show last year. Hopefully she didn't actually do that. And hopefully it has something to do with Thanos and Infinity War. The show will probably make it that Thanos was in indirect result of squirill girl.. I mean quake.

No way she is Surtur level. Give me a break haha

What a great start to the season. They completely re-tooled everything. It's a completely different show but with the same characters. Intriguing and damn cool.

We all know that Daisy didn't destroy the earth but that it's an error "piecing together the past" with limited information available to that Starlord/Bradley Cooper amalgam character. He's an interesting new addition.

Can't wait for the next episode.

i am SO HAPPY that SHIELD is finally back :chd: that wait through Inhumans was painful (not to mention that show was really painful but i digress)

holycow what a start to the season eh? :wowe: that opener was really good :funny: love the music they used with that alien in human skin :yuk:

and gosh May's entrance is the best example of what Nightcrawler/ Blink/ Star Trek is saying about teleporting people to a new place-- who knows if you'd end up in a wall or with a heating pipe through your leg :awesome:

also Mac got the best lines in the ep :funny:

them walking through the corridor together :DV:

"Magic is just Science we dont understand yet"-- this is gonna be one of my life's motto :D

also Deek's (sp?) entrance is so Star Lord but then had the face of the voice of Rocket :funny:

anyways cant wait for the next ep :atp: i hope its moving to a new time slot wouldnt affect the show's longevity or budget. i havent watched my fave shows on tv for a loooong time and i always hate it when they determine its lifespan based on a flawed ratings system.

Hacker, Martial arts specialist, Inhuman, Apparent world destroyer now. She will probably be revealed to be a Demi Goddess next. Who needs the Avengers when the MCU has Daisy. :oldrazz:

It is a bit odd that this show is so devoted to making Daisy out to be the greatest thing that ever existed, while it casually tosses aside characters like Deathlok, Ghost Rider, Mockingbird, Patriot etc.

So, place your bets for what destroyed earth

-Daisy
-Thanos
-Black Bolt
-Graviton
-unrelated/other

Hm ... actually, that would be a pretty good choice. And for the AoS/Inhumans crossover.

The fact that the implied that Daisy destroyed Earth pretty much rules her out completely imo.
It's a pretty obvious redirect. And if she really did blow the planet up, they wouldn't have revealed it so early.

Oh and she just isn't strong enough for planetary destruction. I lol'd when he accused her. Didn't realize so many fans would take him seriously.

I'm hoping Black bolt, but I don't think they will ever explain how the Earth was destroyed.

There going to keep it open ended for creative flexibility. They don't want to handcuff themselves to one reason.

I hope they can cross Inhumans over into this. The Royal family would be the perfect Kree antagonist's.

Not sure how well the Royal family has aged over 90 years, but maybe the Royal families offspring could come into play.

Attillan is basically a city sized space battle ship. Maybe it's floating around space somewhere.

100% agree. And seeing the promo for Episode 3, Deke already mentiones it two times that she destroyed the world. LOL So yeah, pretty much this is a given that she didn't do it.

Is she now the most powerful character? No, probably not. I'd say she's probably on par with the Scarlet Witch and less powerful than Thor and the Hulk. If we're talking about some events in an unspecified future that destroy the Earth. Assuming everything Deke says is true, then it's possible she becomes that, but we don't have a clue the details.

But if the reason you stopped watching is because Daisy is too powerful, I think you'll find she's pretty close to her comics power level.

That was seriously messed up and I liked it. Can't wait for more.

Hope you are right.i havent watched this show since Ghost Rider's first half but I love space and time travel, so I'll give it a go perhaps later

She has been close to her comics power level. And she isn't the reason, it's just an example.

I stopped watching because I felt the show was struggling to find an identity, and it's dramatic tone just got kind of stale. Didn't hsve nearly as much personality as it used to.

Stale, serious, "I'm so tough" catalystic character development turned me away from the show.

But like I mentioned, I like space and time travel, so I'll wait to see what the GA says about it

My guess it was either Thanos, Black Bolt or Graviton that destroyed the Earth not Daisy.

great two episodes and a good start to a new season

Very doubtful Daisy did it, especially since she has been removed from the timeline which would have reversed it.

I agree Deke came from a situation with information about Daisy, with the news broadcast made by Director Mace and he made a leap. The most famous public real Inhuman provided an explanation because she had a power set to cause what happened.

Despite her mother's explanation of the Quake power being almost unlimited Daisy has never shown the power needed to do what happened to earth as her own body could not stand the strain. Without her gauntlets she is should be limited just as Coulson is with just his basic prosthetic. On the other hand there are a couple members of the Inhuman royal family which have a similar power set.

The bad side, they seemed to depower the Kree soldier/guard. From previous experiences with them standing up to an Asgardian while a wounded Agent May or Mac might be willing to resist and thinking that human slaves out number them you would expect it to be a like horse cavalry charging main battle tank.

Without terrigen, unless it is something the Kree carry for other purposes with official Inhuman studies over, you would guess that while the genes are carried by some of the human slaves the only living weapons around would be Daisy and Yo-Yo. Is Sinara actually a Kree, with powers, a blue Inhuman or are her balls like Guardian Yondu's dart and based upon technology?

I did like the shot of the team after Mac convinced Coulson not to split up of the diamond formation being shielded by Daisy at the ready to give a force blast.

Can anyone make a gif of them walking down the hallway and coulson saying "we've never looked cooler' it was great.

This show def did not toss aside Ghost Rider. He eclipsed Daisy in power many times last season.

Daisy did not do it. Likewise I am hoping for Black Bolt if the answer is TV related character.

Yeah, if it's someone on TV side... hopefully Black Bolt is the one responsible.

I like the twist of it being the future, though I'm not a fan of the having to "blend in to a confusingly different society" it feels like we've already been here with the framework plot last season. I feel like the plot will follow the same formula by having them need to save the humans of the future before going back to change the past. I'm kind of already tired of it, hope they can keep it interesting and fresh.

I think the Daisy reveal is a red herring. Graviton, at this point, seems like the most likely candidate. I'm betting it will be something like Daisy was involved fighting graviton and that'd what left Star Lard to believe she was responsible. I had a thought that it could be something that ties to Infinity War like say in the movie the time stone blinks out of existence for a moment and in that moment they find it in the future and use it to go back in time. But I doubt IW would go out of their way to include something like that so far in advance. But since that movie does come out in May same month as the season finale would, could be nice to tie it in. Maybe the moment Graviton destroys the world happens during Infinity War which would be a nice way of explaining where shield was. But we don't know hoe IW will end or what the plot lint of Avengers 4 would be so they may not want to write themselves into a corner with the season 6 setting. But it probably won't tie in at all, still fun to speculate.

It's interesting and I wonder how it will play out.

Also I really hope it's not Black Bolt because I'd rather just pretend Inhuman didn't happen at all.

I'll go with Thanos as a setup for Infinity War. They'll drag the mystery til the week of May 4th. How Infinity War part 1 ends will give us a hint to how the remaining episodes play out.

If they have no breaks this season, wouldn't that mean it ends sometime in April?
