If we get a Green Lantern film that is of John Stewart, I really think that in the same way that a female centered superhero film like WW could benefit from a female director like Bigelow with certain layers and nuances towards the character perspective... a GL John Stewart film could benefit from a male black director as well. I offer the idea of Antoine Fuqua who has directed Training Day (imagine if JS went rogue ;) ) The Equalizer, Tears of the Sun, and a variety of different types of films.

Director: Antoine Fuqua

Green Lantern: John Stewart

Lead Actor: Undecided but I do like past suggestions such as Denzel (who may be too old now), Common could be interesting, and Idris Elba. If going a bit younger, I think the Gaius Charles suggestion was an interesting one.

Director: Hard to pick one that isn't a fanboy dream. Maybe Peter Hyams would come in talks, after all. Just look at when we got the surprise choice Joe Johnson and how great that turned out.

Green Lantern: Hal Jordan

Lead Actor: Kevin Zegers, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Garret Hedlund are my candidates for now.
But who knows if WB want to make GL close to Barry's age. Then it will be an early 90s/late 80s guy. It could open upp for very young looking dudes.
Michael Angarano? An unknown like Rollo Weeks? Perhaps even Frank "Tom Riddle" Dillane if they want someone who isn't purely caucasian. The last suggestion is working with Ron Howard right know, after graduating from RADA. I guess he would be more Kyle Rayner material though

I think we've done this before, but who cares, it's a fun thread.

So.....

Director: Del Toro, going for the same vibe he hit in Pacific Rim.
He's got the visuals

A team movie, with the 4 Earth GL's as the main character

Stars: Karl Urban as Hal Jordan, John C. Reilly as Guy Gardner,
Dave Falco as Kyle Rayner, and Idris Elba as John Stewart

and Mark Strong returning as Sinestro

sort of a cameo from Carol Ferris (played by anyone but Blake Lively, she was awful)

backed up by a cast of CGI GL's, including Kilowog (motion capture and voice by Ron Perlman), Stel, Ch'p and some others.

Maybe Ian McKellen voicing Ganthet.

Plot: based on the Sinestro Corps War, but leaving out the other superheroes who helped out in the final battle and leaving out Cyborg Superman, the Anti-Monitor and Superman-Prime. This has to be a GL film. Maybe the final battle could happen on Earth, but it has to stay focussed on the GL's

If it comes along after JL, then a few seconds to explain that the JL are on a mission somewhere else, except Jordan, and it's all good.

So why not "The Green Lantern Corps" as a title.

Pretty much it would be WB's version of Guardians of the Galaxy.

The most enjoyable possible Green Lantern movie would feature more than one Lantern. Not Kyle since I think that he should be saved for sequels, but Hal, John, and Guy would be fun to see together.

I don't know enough actors and directors to make suggestions about who should play the roles/direct the movie though.

It really would be cool to see more than one human GL on screen together.

THE Green Lantern: Hal Jordan, without question.

A solo John movie sounds like a waste of time and money unless Hal's in it too, or unless John has Hal's relationship with Sinestro.

The LOOK: I want the next GL movie to be strongly inspired by the original Star Wars films. CGI should only be used when absolutely necessary. Prosthetics and practical effects all the way.

Story: I don't think the next film should be an origin story. Hal and John could both be in it. Hal would be the lead character, with Sinestro and a small number of the Sinestro corps as the villains. The main focus would be Hal and Sinestro's relationship. Throoughout the film John and Hal would be at each other's throats, but by the end of the movie, they'd be cool. Both John and Hal would have had traumatic war experiences before their time with the GLC. Kanjar Ro would feature in a small antagonistic role. Katma Tui would be a prominent character, she'd become John's love interest. Kilowog, Ganthet, and Tomar Re would also have small introductory roles.

Cast:

Jake Gyllenhaal, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pine, or Aaron Paul as Hal Jordan
Idris Elba as John Stewart
Mads Mikkelsen as Sinestro
Ian McDiarmid as Ganthet
Olga Kurylenko as Katma Tui

Director: Guillermo Del Toro, JJ Abrams, Rian Johnson, or Neill Blomkamp

It's a terrible idea for a GL series to not do justice to the GL/Sinestro conflict. I think people are missing the point of GL when they suggest a John Stewart lead movie vs Mongul or Manhunters..

I've said it a million times.

Sinestro/Hal = Joker/Batman

You have to do Hal and Sinestro justice before ever getting to John vs the Manhunters or John vs Mongul or Despero or something.

The director should be Neil Blomkamp. The rest would work itself out. I think it'd be easier to feature both Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Make it into a sci-fi buddy cop movie featuring the Corps as the 'precinct', Hal Jordan as the veteran, and John Stewart as the rookie (audience surrogate).

Yeah that's good, add Sinestro and it's perfect

The Green Lantern:Yeah, I'll say Hal, but with John as his predecessor who resigned after a planet blew up, and with Sinestro as his partner for the majority of the film.

Director: Just occurred to me but...Robert Rodriguez.

Tone: Noir and Sci-Fi. Think like a weird fusion of JJ Abrams Star Trek with Blade Runner.

The actors: Garret Hedlund as Hal, Idris Elba (I know, I know) as John Stewart, and someone I don't know as Sinestro.

The story: Origin and other such issues explained by Atrocitus to an unseen interrogator, using a mixture of carvings, blood drawings, and flashbacks. The interrogator is John Stewart, and in exchange for Atrocitus answering his questions, John will let Atrocitus become aware of his own story. Atrocitus grabs John's head and we see the flashbacks...

Basically, it turns out that Hal was tutored under Sinestro as a junior partner after allowing his personal life to bleed into his professional when a Star Sapphire used him as a gateway out of their quarantined zone. He was forbidden from Earth to "refocus" on his job. He gets suspicious of the obedience Sinestro's planet shows to his authority, and repeatedly returns to Earth for John's advice, breaking his "parole." Sinestro finds out, and in spite of a clearly established friendship, triggers a second Star Sapphire outbreak on Carol, making Hal reveal himself to the Guardians and lose his ring. His fallback plan for John (with a replicated ring) comes into being, and it turns out John needed Atrocitus's information to know how to teleport without the Guardians' awareness, so he can escape the internal affairs Lanterns, break Hal out, and they can take on Sinestro. They discover that Sinestro has his own fallback plan; when they outlast his ring, he reveals that the yellow impurity is its own power source, and we see a brief but powerful Yellow versus Green fight. Hal and John win.

The film ends with John confirming and telling Hal that a) the Tsar Sapphires are a power source too, and that b) the Guardians are doubling the Corps for so,e reason. We then cut to Sinestro's cell and see there are other inmates with Yellow power rings waiting for him, and Atrocitus ends the film with the Blackest Night prophecy and creating Red.

A Hal/John buddy thing sounds good. I think the Kirk/Spock balance dynamic of Star Trek 2009 could be just absolutely perfect. In fact that whole aesthetic, minus a few lens flares, is probably ideal. But if you're talking about my personal dream?

"Green Lantern: Emerald Guardian"
John Stewart (Chiwtel Ejiofor, 12 Years a Slave) is an out of work veteran is drafted into the cosmic Green Lantern Corps just as it has fallen into chaos after the disappearance of it's greatest heroes, including arch Lantern Sinestro (Mark Strong?) and John's predecessor, Hal Jordan (Nathan Fillion). As a mysterious enemy army moves to finish off the remainder of the Corps, it's up to John, his trainer, Katma Tui (Freida Pinto) and the lovable strongman Kilowog (Ving Rhames) to save the the Corps, the lost Lanterns and the Universe.
[Edit]Directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, World of Warcraft)

Tone/Pitch: Star Trek 2009 meets The Matrix.

I've actually done my idea GL film a couple times in other threads.

BUTTS IN SEATS.

The Green Lantern Corps

Pre-credits: A primer on the Green Lantern Corps is narrated by Hal Jordan as he is pursued and captured by the Manhunters after destroying a huge engine large enough to move a planet. This blows a huge chunk of the planet away.

Act I:

Meet John Stewart. He's an ex marine with nightmares, and a freelance architectural engineer who can't find work in Coast City, his girlfriend Tawny is leaving him, and though he's creative and deep and tries to be a good guy, life is not on his side and no one believes in him, no one will give him a chance. Until one day this ring flies to him saying "You have the capability to overcome great fear" and constantly telling him what percentage his power is at.

He then has a ton of fun with it, until some alien robots called the Manhunters come to Earth to get "The Green Lantern of Sector 2814" for "crimes against Mongul." He's taken to a strange planet called Biot and interrogated by an entity called Mongul with a yellow ring. Mongul leaves him to be executed but he escapes, finds the body of another slain Green Lantern, and recovers their ring and uses their power Battery to recharge his ring. This alerts the Manhunters, and there's a close quarters battle. Just as he's about to be overrun, an alien Green Lantern named Katma Tui has picked up his 'distress signal' and comes in and rescues him. He shows his fighting abilities on his way out. She takes him to Oa for his training.

katmatui_zpsf15c713a.jpg

Act II:

On Oa, John instantly impresses Kilowog with his military training. He proves to be a "master builder" because of the way he constructs things to the minute detail, conserving willpower while keeping his constructs sturdy. Because of this, he clears basic training in a matter of moments, and is assigned to shadow a senior Lantern, naturally Katma, who has been reporting her findings on Biot has perturbed the Guardians and they her in return. John comes before them and mentions a yellow ring off hand, which alarms them deeply. He's assigned to Katma their "strongest investigator" though there are warnings that "this treads too close to a previous partnership." John and Katma heads to Mogo to find out more about the Manhunters, on the way they talk about Hal and Sinestro briefly, and they find out the last known Manhunter is in a royal museum on Xanshi.

Heading there, they meet the Xanshi royal family, Princess Yrra Cyril strikes John's fancy, to Katma's shagrin. They find an old retired Manhunter, John analyzes it, and realizes it's got Green Lantern batteries in its's head for power, and it's signaling the others to come. The Manhunters with Mongul fall upon Xanshi, and Katma can't defeat him, because his yellow constructs utterly decimate hers, she is defeated and tossed aside. Mongul starts to create War World engines with his ring, stating how his Yellow Lantern Corps will be much less vulnerable with a mobile base of operations, but Princess Yrra manages to face him and slyly remove his ring. Mongul attacks her, giving John a clear shot to kill Mongul, but it would kill Yrra too. John has flashes back to his sniper days in Afghanistan killing an innocent kid, and he can't do it. Mongul finishes and leaves. John has an idea to overload the engines, and plans to contain the blast. Katma comes in, and informs him he can't contain the yellow blast. John is furious and pursues Mongul, who allows John to expend virtually all of his energy charge and then takes John's ring, wearing it like a necklace. Katma helps evacuate Xanshi, while John tries to stop the engines from overloading, Katma has to drag him out and the planet explodes.

Act III:

GLCOR_Cv10_zps7a7043f7.jpg

Back on Oa, John stands trial for his actions. Yrra vows vengeance, setting up for her as Fatality in a sequel. Katma lobbies for him, but John doesn't help matters by accusing the Guardians of making the Manhunters. The Guardians strip him of his ring and banish him from the Corps. Katma is asked to escort him back to Earth. Katma makes a huge spaceship, based on their sci-fi conversation earlier, but as they start to head out, the Manhunters attack Oa, with Mongul at the fore. They are decimating, not just with numbers, but Mongul is simply unstoppable by green constructs. Katma leaves John to go join the fight. John can't leave, he sees Mongul down there unchallenged and he sets the ship to Kamikazee into the Manhunter ships and jumps out, free falling, aiming for mongul and manages to barely grab his ring as Mongul backhands him. John recovers, then we see him do the whole set up my sniper thing to snipe the Manhunter ships' power cores, blowing them. Meanwhile Mongul takes Katma to the Guardians and gives them a good talking to, before declaring the Age of Green Lanterns through. Meanwhile John fights some Manhunters on the ground and uses his last bit of energy to cut open one's face and charge his ring! He then uses the Manhunter Scan he created to make his own Manhunter called 5TEL, who is a Green Lantern, and thus, shuts down the Manhunters by hacking them from the inside.

5659320f-a2cf-471f-adf7-bcd7e3bf9bb8_zpsf83c4c2b.jpg

John pursues Mongul to the Central Power Battery, where Mongul is about to destroy it, and then set up a new Corps, John instead flies into the power battery, and comes out with his ring 10,000% charged and ransacks Mongul, by using his immense power to actually build things out of available materials around him, stripping Mongul of his ring, like he too was stripped, and then beating the super strong being on even terms.

Mongul is put in the sciencells, but in the process, Sinestro is freed, he retrieves the yellow ring from evidence and heads to 'Qward' where he is welcomed back, and shown that dozens of Yellow rings have been finished by the weaponer. And inside their yellow power battery? Hal Jordan.

Meanwhile, John returns to Earth, and he's a different person now. He has a job, he has a girl, he may still have nightmares, but he doesn't have anything to prove anymore. He's Green Lantern.

BUT... if they were to make a Green Lantern movie with John Stewart... here's how I would see it done:

Green Lantern: Emerald Guardian

We see a strange landscape, dead aliens all around and an apparently dead John Stewart just a few inches from a bloodied Green Lantern ring. Voiceover starts: "The Most Poweful Weapon in the Universe... and all I had to do was keep it on my finger..."

Cue Opening Credits. Present Day Coast City.

John Stewart is an out of work architect from Detroit, fighting ghosts from his service in the US Marines. His girlfriend, newswoman Tawny Young, is totally wrapped up in her career and wondering when he will stop making excuses and make things happen. His pitch to Ferris Aircraft for some soundproof hangars doesn't fall within their budget. The local hoodlums in his neighborhood accost him for trying to be a 'good guy' and failing so badly. Rent's due. Car's broken down. Times are tough. John doesn't trust his own judgment because of past mistakes, he even has nightmare flashbacks. Deep down, John is scared that he doesn't have what it takes. People talk about that Green Lantern guy sometimes, no one's seen him in years.

Then, in the middle of one of his darkest moments, this alien sweeps out of the sky. "John Stewart. You have been chosen. You have the capability overcome great fear." says Katma Tui, a gorgeous but taciturn fuscia-skinned alien.

She immediately begins training John in the use of the ring and charge it, as they discuss the cosmos, and Katma is very dodgy about the state of the Green Lantern Corps. As they spar, she is impressed with his military training and remarks that he is a 'builder' and that he assembles real solid objects with his ring instead of just willing shapes into existence. His first field test is an assassination attempt on a public figure, Sentator Jeremiah Crutcher (here, comics fans will notice that Katma is playing Hal's role in John's first appearance), where John bucks orders, uses the Senator as bait, catches the true culprit and gets on Katma's bad side worse. After he mocks the oath, Katma says he's unfit to be a GL, and will submit her review to the Oan Council, at which point they will come take his ring away. She leaves.

John, seeing as how his time with this thing is brief, has a field day, showing off Green Ferrarris and paying cash for everything. He builds a prototype of the soundproof hangars easily, all sorts of stuff. It's all just very fun... well, until the Manhunters show up.

Yeah, they're clearly robots, their eyes glow green. They're there for Earth's Green Lantern, for crimes against sentience and strange cosmic legal terms. With their superior numbers and his ring running out of charge (which cold female computerish voice regularly announces), he's subdued very easily, and taken to the planet Dhor. Here, he first meets the mastermind behind Manhunters... Sinestro.

"Sinestro will ask the questions," and finds it very interesting that his replacement, that he trained, trained John. John is able to gather Sinestro has it in for the GL Corps for their ineffectiveness, but where he got this army from his a mystery. He also taunts John with the fate of the first human GL, alsoa mystery. Sinestro leaves to attend to the next phase of his plan after this factory planet finishes making his army. John manages to summon the GL Corps with the last of his ring's power, and a squad of GLs including Katma, Kilowog, and Tomar-Re, bursts in and manages to distract the Manhunters enough to allow him to get free, charge his ring and with the others, stop production, but the army escapes to rally with Sinestro, pursuing such superior numbers is inadvisable, but Tomar Re trie anyway, and is killed by the powerful yellow entity that covers the Manhunters' escape, "Parallax" is whispered in hushed tones.

John is taken to Oa, where he sees that Oa has some advanced security perimeter that protects them, and meets with the Oan Council, the Guardians of the Universe. These little blue men in their ornate structures of green, after an argument, decide that John has proven himself worthy enough to be a probationary member of the Green Lantern Corps, warning against the dangers of a human Green Lantern, and is assigned to Katma to her shagrin. They make a stop at Mogo, a fun thing as any god Mogo scene should be, and then head to Xanshi, where, thanks to Mogo, they have a lead on an old decommissioned Manhunter. It's in a museum there, as it fell defending them millenia ago. John ends up quickly infatuated with the princess, Yrra Cyril, something which bothers Katma, surprisingly but not surprisingly. John, being a builder, scans the old Manhunter, identification 5TEL. John discovers it was created by the Guardians because it runs on Green Lantern batteries, which is why the Manhunters were capturing GLs to add to their numbers. John reactivates 5TEL and it tells part of the story of the pre-GLs before warning about incoming allies. Cue space, army of manhunters descending. John and Yrra warn Katma, backup is not nearby. They fight as hard as they can, Yrra shows that she's quite a fighter herself, as do many other Xanshi-ans. They seem to be holding them off until Sinestro and his monstrous pet Parallax show up. They offer surrender, but John instead baits Parallax into chasing him. He sets up a trap for Parallax which will recycle his energy on himself until he's spent and weakened and kill able. The trap, ornate as it is, works, until Parallax's true weakened form is revealed: a defenseless, distraught, terrified shadow of Hal Jordan.

John gets more flashbacks to the Marines, where he basically had to gun down a defenseless person after locking eyes with them. John even has a construct Assault Rifle in his hand to add to the symmetry. He can't do it. He hesitates, he realizes that he's hesitated and then he tries to finish it, but it's too late, Parallax has turned John's fear into power and thrown John off of his feet and burst from the trap, fleeing into the sky, leaving John with this energy feedback loop that he can't hold. He tells Katma to evacuate the planet. There's little that can be done in less than a minute, John is overwhelmed, and almost out of power, and Katma flies in to pull him out of the explosion which destroys the planet.

Xanshi_zps2b60f4af.png

We see Yrra, but not her father, has made it into a shuttle, and weeps as her planet disintegrates. Back on Oa, John is found unfit, stripped of his ring and told he'll be taken back to Earth. Katma volunteers for the job, after dressing him down and telling him how many billions of lives he has on his conscience, she thanks him for doing what he thought was right. "You'll be a great architect, I know it..." and then she makes a starship and they start heading back to Sector 2814. That's when Sinestro and Parallax and the Manhunters attack, bypassing security protocols thanks to what they pulled off of 5TEL, they start bombarding Oa. Guardians sequester for cover, unready GLs try to fight, transmissions for backup are blocked. It's bad. Katma makes the ship solid and says goodbye to John before locking in the ship's autopilot and leaving the ship to join the fight.

On the ground, we see Sinestro is a monster, he walks right into the Guardians' chambers, his beams and constructs cut through GLs like butter, and talks down to them while taking John's ring, still sitting on the pedestal where he had to leave it. Sinestro puts the Earth GL ring around his neck like a trophy. Meanwhile Parallax snipes people from above. In the sky, John uses the ship to communicate with someone (Mogo) to get backup, kamikazes the ship into Parallax to slow him down and dives out of the ship towards Oa. He freefalls towards Sinestro. He reaches out towards Sinestro as he's about to fly by (and then hit the ground and splat if he misses) but Sinestro sees him and knocks him silly as he passes, John ragdolls through the air and off of some structures before skidding across the ground limply. Sinestro smiles and then looks down at his neck... the ring is gone. Cut to the scene we saw from the beginning, but now the ring lights up and comes back onto John's hand, he stands up, he has a green aura but the computer is counting down the last 0.5% of his power with every move he makes. Manhunters rush him, and he makes... a sword, while reciting the Green Lantern oath with pride, as he fights, he does a couple blasts, a little flight, makes a lever to protect himself from a falling ship/building and then, with a spin, uses the sword to cut the front off of a Manhunter, as he finishes the Oath by plugging his ring into the exposed battery. "...Green Lantern's Light!" He becomes fully powered, full suited up, ready for action.

Elsewhere, Sinestro faces off with Katma, who is no match for him while Parallax descends on the planet, and on the Power Battery, the source of the GL's Power. 5TEL, now under control of the Manhunters tries to fight John, but John, knowing his systems, rebuilds his insides so that he's now on the GL's side. 5TEL then, under John's influence, basically hacks and starts to shut down all of the Manhunters. John's own well planned Trojan Horse. Parallax tries to one shot John, but he no longer has anything to lose, so he has no fear. Parallax pulls up all of John's fears, giving John a preponderance of flashbacks that seem to have no effect on this guy who is totally prepared to die at any moment. Parallax cannot stop him and John basically tackles Parallax into the energy for the Power Battery. They wrestle in there and then there is a large corona of light, yellow first, then green takes over as John's fearful flashbacks are slowly replaced with Hal's and then... nothing. Moments later John, glowing green and a powerless Hal Jordan appear from inside the Green Lantern battery. John's ring says he's at 1000% power, which he then uses to rebuild Oa even grander and more beautiful than it was before.

Sinestro is now isolated, and his advantage of Katma seems less and less relevant as more GL's are fighting against him. Hal meets up with Kilowogg who takes him toward Sinestro while John calmly builds a sniper rifle. Sinestro is having at everyone and telling them off, and even Hal shows up in that bomber jacket and Sinestro has his big speech... John has finished the extremely long sniper rifle and fires it at Sinstro, right through Sinestro's.... ring. Sinestro, now powerless gets punched in the face by Hal. Manhunters are all stopped, on standby, thanks to 5TEL and Mogo, and GL backup has arrived, ready to help with anything else that needs doing... there's not much else.

tumblr_mc60845BH51rw3uqo_zps99990ce6.png

The final resolution scenes have Sinestro in prison, and Hal being re-inducted into the Corps and given a position as the Honor Guard Lantern, a position he gladly gives up for John, who's earned it, and has less desire to return to Earth... cue kiss with Katma Tui and innuendo about additional training time. The two humans part calling each other "Green Lantern" and we go to credits.

158e7256-4f67-43ce-a4b3-c7c7484a50be_zpsd8261fbd.jpg

After the credits of course, we find Yrra training hard out in some alien wasteland , striking makeshift GL dummies with her staff and then some off camera stranger comes to her. It doesn't speak, but it does toss a Yellow Power Ring at her feet...

Director: Ridley Scott or James Cameron (if he weren't busy with Avatar). Neill Blomkamp would be great with the right writer. I love his work on District 9. I want that sort of look combined with Aliens for a Green Lantern movie.

Green Lantern: Chris Pine as Hal Jordan.

I'd have it to be more of a lost in space story with Hal and his crew fighting creatures and a vicious alien race as their energy runs low. Hal's origins as well as other missions would be shown though flashbacks. Some of the familiar crew members would die. Sinestro, played by Mark Strong, would be the main villain. There would also be appearances by as well as a set up for Atrocitus and Saint Walker that leads into the sequel.

My dream Green Lantern movie would star Nathan Fillion, but it's about 10 years too late for that...

Director: Duncan Jones
Character: Hal Jordan
Actor: Chris Pine or Jake G. I guess. Uninspired but I can't think of anyone else.
Story: Geoff Johns' Secret Origins except without all the childhood family drama in the beginning. Hal Jordan is discharged from Air Force for sneaking off base to see his dying mother. Gets a job at Ferris Aircrafts as a mechanic. Abin Sur crash lands on Earth due to Atrocitus. Hal gets the GL ring and goes to Oa to train. Returns and is attacked by Hammond given psychic powers by radiation from Abin Sur's ship, saved by Sinestro, Hal and Sinestro hunt for Atrocitus, Hal overcomes the yellow impurity to defeat Atrocitus, Sinestro brings Atrocitus to a prison, Atrocitus rambles similar predictions he used to rattle Abin Sur and rattles Sinestro, laying groundwork for Sinestro's future villainy.

My dream Green Lantern movie would have John, Hal, Kyle and Guy. I would really push the 'space cop' angle and the general audience would be thrown right into the middle of it. No origin, no set up. I would trust the audience to keep up.

Director: Someone who understands group dynamic, action and character building.

Absolutely !

Spacebound & Down
Directed by Jody Hill

An arrogant football coach Guy Gardner (Danny McBride) is recruited by an intergalactic police force known as The Green Lantern Corp after the current Green Lantern of Earth, Hal Jordan (Matthew McConaughey), grows mad with power and is determined to destroy the universe. Gardner must undergo training with tough as nails alien Kilowog (John Goodman) and eventually teams up with former architect John Stewart (Craig Robinson). Also featuring Deep Roy as Ganthet, Don Johnson as Alan Scott, Tim Heidecker as Tomar-Re and Sacha Baron Cohen as Sinestro.

Great casting choices, McBride would be a great Guy Gardner, as would Sacha BC as Sinestro, and Goodman as Kilowog. However, if the film is going to be humourous (which is kind of what your post suggests) what about Will Smith as John Stewart ?

Not so sure about the Hal goes crazy story. Also, the previous poster who mentioned starting in media res, rather than rehashing an origin story.....got to go with that. We've had one lame GL origin story already, and probably don't need another. Why not have it all in motion, and then cover origins with a few flashbacks ?

What about Peter Dinklage as Ganthet ?

love McBride as Gardner though !

Another suggestion has risen for a younger Hal Jordan. It's Liam Aiken who's two years older than Ezra. He still looks young but the GL film won't happen until 2020 so that may change. Aiken will be 30 by then and his boyish features won't stay with him forever.

EDIT: If you happen to be surprised by Logan Lerman's performance in Fury, he could also be considered as a candidate.

Lots of fresh ideas
Lovin the cast Eddie dean, very nice

Glad people are coming around to McConaughey as Hal

Glad people are coming around to McConaughey as Hal
For a traditional adaptation, I'm not sure about it, but for my version of Hal, absolutely. Vain, drunk, constantly hitting on underage Green Lanterns, basically David Wooderson with a power ring.

"That's what I love about these Graxonite girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age. "

I read someone say 'training day' in space with Hal and sinestro. I like that.

Hal-Josh Hartnett, Nathan Fillion, Zac Efron, Jack Reynor

Sinestro-I'd be Mark Strong back. **** it.

That sounds good to me. Not sold on Reynor yet tho.

also, i think McConaughey would work just fine for a traditional Hal.
