Wanda goes crazy and destroys the Avengers.
A team of Young Avengers gather, alter time and even kill Kang the Conqueror
The Heroes of the Marvel Universe fight against each other to the death.

It is not a secret that these things sound very very unlikely, yet they have transpired. How could it be? How could all of this actually make sense with has been revealed in the past? Just one word.

Immortus.

Think about it. Immortus has always been concerned about Wanda Maximoff, about the potential destruction her children might create. So, what's better than to manipulate her into making herself a normal human being? No more mutants she said due to the events of HOM... but was that truly her wish or the wish of someone else? Couldn't it have been simplicity itself for Immortus to place a Space Phantom in the shape of Janet Van Dyne to reveal that little "secret" about Wanda's sons at the perfect time? Wouldn't it also have been easier for him to create another Space Phantom to take Quicksilver's place and manipulate her into creating the HOM world and everything that followed?

Let's examine the first 6 issues of Young Avengers. Iron Lad comes from the future, claiming he will one day become Kang, and that Kang himself tried to recruit him and he stole Kang's armor and used it to travel through time. When Kang arrives he says that time is changing because of Iron Lad's actions, and effectively we see the repercusions of it, we see costumes being altered, the city being altered, etc. Only that this isn't possible. You CAN'T change the past, it has been said many many times before. If you did change the past what you'd do is create an divergent alternate reality, while the old one flowed on uninterrupted. So, what's the answer here? Simple, Immortus (maybe himself) impersonated Iron Lad, created the Young Avengers, brought a Space Phantom as Kang, using the devices in Limbo managed to alter time around the Avengers Mansion, and then killed his Kang/Space Phantom, and then left. Why did he needed to create the Young Avengers? Well, if Billy and Tommy are in truth Wanda's Children it'd be easier for him to keep an eye of them this way...

Civil War... why would Immortus influence the heroes of the world to fight each other? Simple, Annihilation comes to mind. Immortus' life work was to stop the humans from spreading throughout the Universe. If the heroes of Earth had heard what was going on in the rest of the Universe they would have jumped right into it, and who knows what might've happened. It is not the first time Immortus creates mayhem between the heroes in order to stop them from leaving the Earth.

Now, if Immortus is back to his old haunts, to doing all this, it means that a) The TimeKeepers did not die and are forcing Immortus to resume his job b) Immortus himself wants to continue the TimeKeepers orders even though they're gone, because he either believes in them, or because he knows not what else to do.

Whatever the reason, I think it's the only way that things make real sense in the current Marvel World. Immortus hasn't been seen since Avengers Forever, in the year 2000, save for a brief mention in Beyond.

1. Marvel management has constantly said that CW is/was/will not (be) due to a villain.
2. It wouldn't be the first time that a group of heroes have been involved in a galactic war. It would make more sense that what it WOULD do is make Earth a bigger target instead of expanding its populace outward. The X-Men are currently fighting in space. Do you think that's going to influence Earth against "Immortus' plans"?
3. Face the music. This is the New Marvel because Joey Q and company wanted it this way. It's not some beautifully orchestrated plan where we'll see that this was all a setup to make the heroes look bad. THIS is how they are now, feet of clay go all the way up to the knee now and they have more foibles than they did before.

Simple, it's not Immortus, it's Marvel; it's current trends. Although your theory is nice it falls apart against he harsh reality of modern comics.

Besides, didn't they use the "it was all Immortus!" bit to clean up the previous twenty years of Avengers history in Avengers Forever?

Yeah, 'cause ya know, Marvel is 100% original ALL the time.

They sure did. Couldn't rightly do the same copout twice.

Well...they could, but it'd be hella lame. :o

someone's been sniffin glue over at the DC forums, b/c this plot sounds a lot like what "Infinite Crisis" was all about...

LOL

Why can't wanda just say:

"I changed my mind"

It's the ultimate save,.... Marvel can literally destroy the Marvel Universe as long asd Wanda is Alive,....

In fact WHY HASN'T THE EXILES HAD A UNIVERSE WHERE WANDA TAKES COMPLETLY OVER???

Man, seriously, whats with these threads lately?
