WWE Called The "Biggest Bully On The Block", Ripped For Mocking JR On TV

By Daniel Pena on 08/21/2012

Linda Sánchez, the U.S. Representative for California's 39th congressional district, is being criticized for promoting WWE's multi-platform, nationwide anti-bullying campaign, "be a STAR," at a rally last Friday at Whittier, California's Parnell Park in the Los Angeles area. She had a Twitter exchange with Irv Muchnick, author of CHRIS & NANCY: The True Story of the Benoit Murder-Suicide and Pro Wrestling’s Cocktail of Death and Wrestling Babylon, regarding her appearance, who noted his displeasure with his favorite congressperson on football brain injuries being "coopted by WWE/Linda McMahon propaganda."

Sánchez responded to his remark, tweeting, "As a mother & lawmaker, bullying prevention is very important 2 me. I speak w/ kids re: the dangers of bullying any chance I get." Muchnick then wrote, "Respectfully, I don’t think you know background of why WWE, biggest bully on the block, is involved in this campaign…."

Sánchez’s communications director, Adam Hudson, responded to Muchnik's concerns Monday via e-mail: "We saw your Tweets regarding Linda speaking at anti-bullying events with the WWE and other celebrities. I’m happy to follow up on why Linda was there if you would like. Regards.”

Muchnick then gave a lengthy response stating his belief that prominent politicians such as herself and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who also spoke at the anti-bullying rally, should not get in bed with WWE by covering, "or, worse, extolling the company’s self-aggrandizing propaganda." He details the hypocrisy of WWE promoting an anti-bullying campaign when the sports-entertainment organization, or rather, the McMahon family, has ingrained a toxic culture of bullying in their workplace. He notes, "WWE became part of the Be A Star campaign in the first place only because the company was dealing with the public relations fallout of controversial actions, gestures, and public utterances of its performers, which put them at odds with organizations such as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation."

Muchnick then lists examples of WWE compromising its anti-bullying campaign, including company chief Vince McMahon mocking announcer Jim Ross’ affliction with Bell’s Palsy in a backstage segment on the June 11 episode of Raw. He details, "Recently, to great televised and dressing-room glee, the Monday Night Raw program on the USA cable network broadcast a parody of on-and-off announcer and company executive Jim Ross. Mocking Mr. Ross’s bouts with the disease Bell’s Palsy, which has partially paralyzed his face, the talent performing the parody twisted his own mouth theatrically and grotesquely, while a commentator chimed in with unrestrained mirth. Here, the on-air bullying anecdote harshly illuminated the same methods in WWE’s backstage relations with its own employees."

Muchnick adds, "I think our conversation on this matter can advance public understanding of the bullying issue, as well as provide fodder for the Senate race in Connecticut between Ms. McMahon and her Democratic opponent, Chris Murphy."

Update on Steve Austin Possibly Wrestling at WrestleMania 29 or 30

By Steve Carrier on 08/21/2012

Earlier it was reported that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin will be wrestling one final match at either WrestleMania 29 or 30, both Austin and Jim Ross have taken to Twitter to shoot down those rumors.

Steve Austin himself re-tweeted a message on Tuesday afternoon that stated, Don't listen to any dirtsheet or bleacher report! @steveaustinBSR will say if and when he's wrestling again, and that's the bottom line.

Jim Ross then followed up with a series of Tweets further debunking the rumors:

"Sources/'media' saying @steveaustinBSR will wrestle at WM29 have zero credibility. Less than zero. IF Austin ever returns, HE'LL make call."

"4 the anal retentive, this ain't cryptic..@steveaustinBSR has NO plans to have 'one more match' and IF he changes his mind, HE decides."

"Total BS. RT @SlicedTeaDotCom: @JRsBBQ @steveaustinBSR read today that he will wrestle at 30, won't be ready physically or mentally by 29"

Happy Birthday to

Pretty sad the only veteran with star power that put guys on the current roster over just left again. One of the many reasons I respect him. I just wish he had the same star power as HBK.

I guess Austin's knee surgery pretty much cancelled the Punk match. Hopefully, we'll get Punk Vs. Rock then.

Brock leaving because he has nothing to prove is nonsense considering Cena beat him earlier this year. If he had beaten both Cena and HHH, then leaving would've made some sense.

Bane with Bane's mask = epic

Lesnar already beat Cena. He just wanted to hurt him this time.

They've heard of "Lost," but for legal reasons they cannot acknowledge it. A TV show that subjects its audience to endless buildup with no payoff is borderline copyright infringement on the WWE.

You win the thread.

Lord of the Rings was a decade ago. Lost was recent.

LOTR is arguably the greatest film trilogy of all time. Lost was just ass.

If Vince gets his way, then we can scrap any hopes of seeing Punk vs Rock at a wrestlmania event.

I say Mania should go this way.

Rock/Cena II

and

Punk vs Undertaker

OR

Rock/Cena/Punk

WWE's booking of Punk is starting to strongly resemble their booking of Miz as champion.

And thank God somebody called WWE out on their hypocrisy RE: be a STAR.

I would really like to see Punk taking on The Rock at Wrestlemania one on one. If they play their cards right that one could really elevate Punk big time. I would rather see Rock/Cena II at Summerslam or Survivor Series since the original 5 pay per views need that type of high level match again. With Wrestlemania I want it to be something huge that elevates the new crop of stars. Give Cena Cody Rhodes or Ziggler and get one of those guys into the main event dammit! Hell throw one of them at the Rock. Have Cody say that the Rock's era was a disgrace to his father's or something. Have Ziggler talk about how Cena is old news or something. Those two guys needed a major bump at Wrestlemania this year and got nothing.

It seems cody's push has stalled completely right now.

A friend of mine attended SummerSlam (he had floor seats) and confirms Durst was indeed escorted out.

The next time they use the divas like that (dancing behind the musical guest), they should have just one random male wrestler join them, with no comment or explanation.

^Future Divas Champion

Well, this is an interesting development:

- Conspicuous by her absence Monday on Raw was Beth Phoenix, who WWE advertised as a participant in the Divas Championship No. 1 Contender Battle Royal. According to PWInsider.com, she, nor Kelly Kelly, who was also advertised for the match, were not at the show emanating from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. "The Glamazon" will be missing more events as WWE.com is no longer advertising her for next week's four-event Raw brand tour of Australia. She had been listed as appearing as recently as late last week.

And thank God somebody called WWE out on their hypocrisy RE: be a STAR.

It's about time. If you want to have a major affect on kids, have professional athletes join the campaign against bullying. Not surprisingly though, many pro athletes in the NFL, MLB and the NBA have not joined the campaign against bullying.

Well, this is an interesting development:

I certainly do not want to jump to any conclusions, since she could not be advertised or missing shows for any number of reasons, but I hope she is leaves or gets released by WWE since TNA would no doubt pick her up in a heartbeat and she would be amazing in the Knockouts division

We all knew that Kelly Kelly was leaving.

Until otherwise, I am going to guess that Beth is expecting.
