None of the character drama and deeply emotional stakes of Godzilla Minus One are here, instead Shin Godzilla goes for a surprisingly satirical, dryly humorous, and equally terrifying political thriller tone. The film is a biting critique of bureaucratic inability to act in a time of crisis, with an eclectic soundtrack, and some of the most innovative and cool visuals in any kaiju movie. I'm a fan.
Holmes gets mixed up in a royal assassination plot that would lead to the first World War, it's an interesting historical setting for Holmes to engage and Christopher Lee makes for a strong Holmes.
7.5/10
Holmes takes on the mystery of Jack the Ripper and of course solves the unsolved. This is ideal material to inject Sherlock into and Christopher Plummer makes for a more empathetic take on the character while the film has a real sense of atmosphere.
