Return of the Jedi

I find it funny that Luke acted like so much more of a badass in Jedi than the future Darth Vader ever did throughout the prequels.

You'll see in the upcoming movies, Lukeis much worse than Darth.

I just finished watching Jedi on Cinemax. It's been a while since I last saw the film so hence why I just realized this.

I love Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. Yet I was never too crazy about Jedi. It's good but not...great...you know? It has a lot of flaws and I wasn't too crazy about how somethings were handled.

But, even with all the flaws this movie has it still is a hundred times better than the Prequels. Even better than Revenge of the Sith. Although Sith has a better ending. lol. The party with the "Teddy Bears" was one of the things I wasn't too crazy about. lol.

I think Sith is the better movie

Well, if there are more movies, which I highly doubt, they'll be done by Lucas. Therefore, Luke will be turned from badass to a whiney little ***** much like his father.

I heard something about a Star Wars project forthcoming

it's called 'The Chronicles of Yoda K'aakk'

No doubt about that.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that liked ROTJ. I thought it did a great job wrapping up the OT. It had surprise, suspense, some humor with the Ewoks-I'm perhaps the only person that doesn't hate them-and I loved the final confrontation between Luke & Vader, with the Emperor's cackling and taunting. On technical merits, ESB was a better film, but I enjoyed ROTJ's more.

My ranking of the SW films:
1. ESB
2. ROTJ
3. ROTS
4. AOTC
5. ANH
6. TPM

I also don't hate AOTC, like many fans do. I think it helped breath some life into the prequels, despite its flaws. TPM was just boring as hell, and I couldn't stand kid Anakin (Annie), or the waste of Darth Maul. How could he get like five minutes of screentime while Jar Jar Binks was in practically the whole damn film? I knew something was no longer clicking with GL's creative process then and there.

I think GL did a poor job really in making PT characters that fans could identify with and make the PT stand on its own. He misjudged who would be popular, killing off Qui Gon, Jango Fett, Dooku, & Maul too soon IMO, while featuring Jar Jar, Grevious way too prominently. He also shafted the EU characters Aayla Secura, Aurra Sing, and Quinlan Vos. The mangled Padme/Anakin relationship-which was supposed to be the heart of the whole PT-showed how out of touch GL was in fleshing out his characters.

Inserting CP30, R2D2, and Chewbacca into the film only hightlighted how poorly written/developed the PT characters turned out to be.

For really good prequel stories I read Dark Horse's Star Wars: Republic which really knew how to develop GL's ideas.

JEDI is still my all time favorite movie in the STAR WARS SAGA.

1. ROTJ

2. ESB

3. ROTS

4. ANH

5. TPM

6. AOTC

Oh, come on. It had:

- The death of Yoda.
- Han Solo being rescued by Luke Skywalker, the Jedi Knight.
- Lando and co destroying the Death Star.
- The revelation that Leia is Luke's sister.
- Luke, Vader, and Emperor in the Death Star.
- Vader's redemption and the prophecy being fullfilled that Anakin Skywalker destroys the Sith.

Problem was that these revelations were presented with about as much emotional force as that checklist. "Death of Yoda - check. Han Solo rescued - check. Death Star destroyed - check..."

When you watch Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back it has a very timeless look and feel. ROTJ is a different story. The movie is such an `80s film. Especially the scenes at Jabba's place. That whole Han rescue scenes have such an `80s feel and look to them.

why, exactly?

It just doesn't have the timeless qualities of the first two. At the end of the day it probably just comes down to lighting and camera work. The director, Richard Marquand, basically went for a very generic approach.

We're still waiting for reasons why...

1. Generic `80s direction from Richard Marquand. I said that already.
2. The Jabba scene was packed with Jim Henson muppets. Even though Muppets have been around since the `60s it was in the `80s when we got a bunch of Jim Henson muppet movies.
3. Anything with the Ewoks a/k/a the Teddy Bears. Only in the `80s could you get away with such nonsense.

I'll admit that the Death Star stuff and the Vader vs. Luke scenes still hold up. But, everything else has a very `80s feel to it. Again, its mostly Richard Marquand's generic direction.

Except that it's totally meaningless if you don't define what 'generic 80s direction' entails.

Pardon them for not having CGI.

Didn't they get away with it in 1999 with TPM and the Gungans, though?

Have you never seen an `80s movie in your life? I think its pretty obvious what a generic `80s movie looks like. Just look at stuff like Police Academy and s--t. Look at the camera work and lighting. We all know ROTJ doesn't have as many iconic images as the first two films. And, thats cause of the generic approach.

Pardon them for not having CGI.

:whatever: :whatever: :whatever:
Yes, cause CGI is what I said they need. Right. They could have just used regular puppets like Yoda and Jubba for example. Instead we get Jim Henson muppets. I have nothing against Jim Henson muppets but it does date the movie. Muppets are mostly a TV thing. It was in the `80s when they exploded onto the big screen. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a Muppet on the big screen?

What?! Lucas got away with nothing in the prequels. The movies made money because the Star Wars fanatic just have to watch any crap Lucas makes for them. Most people (myself included) hate the prequels.

Vader pitching the Emperor over the railing? If that's not THE scene that doesn't make you get up and cheer you are dead inside.

Close thread.

But the kids loved it, much like the kids loved the ewoks.

80s films look like this.

When did I ever say ROTJ didn't have good moments? All I said was that ROTJ didn't have AS MANY iconic moments as the first two. Which 99.9% of people will agree with. Did ROTJ have good stuff in it? Of course. But, not as many as the first two films.
