The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Your single, favourite shot from all of the Spider-Man movies?

Prolly like...a 7. 6 on a bad day, lol. I have major issues with it, but Garfield and Stone (and their chemistry) really make the film a solid one, instead of a bad one.

Damn. Nice.

Personally, my rating for it can go anywhere from 7 - 9, depending on how I'm feeling. It's currently on an 8.

I really do feel as if the relationships between pretty much every character in the first movie, felt much more real, than in the second movie.

It's almost scary how real the Peter/Gwen stuff in the first movie was.

Yep! That's one of my other complaints about TASM2- the relationships between everyone didn't feel as fresh as TASM1- the sole exception being May/Peter. I loved the scenes they had together. TASM1 had Peter and Gwen being so cute together, but (I guess since they were split up), it was still good, but more "take it or leave it" type of deal. Dehaan was solid as Harry, but we should have at least got a mention of Harry in TASM1 or a flashback or something. That's why I can't buy their friendship at all..plus, as good as he was, Dane's Harry was quite cold, save for one or two scenes.

It's funny how much we seem to be on the same page, but still come out giving the movie completely different scores.

Out of curiosity what did you rate ASM2?

Great Minds, SpideyK. :cwink:

I still would've done things a tad differently though, to seperate it from Raimi's...a good one is have Spidey already in his prime, and show the origin through flashbacks, ala B89. Another thing, even a week and two viewings later, it is a shame TASM2 didn't work for me, because I was hyped walking out of the theater for TASM2, and even having rewatched the bluray recently, I still felt the same way. I might just buy it if I can find it on sale or its cheap or something, because it does have some scenes I genuinely like. :csad:

I actually liked the origin story in ASM, though.

Anyway, what do you mean
and even having rewatched the bluray recently
though? You must've been referring to the first movie, right? o_O

This scene was priceless.

I only watched ASM before seeing ASM2, but I came out feeling really bad about it for some reason.

And then on the ASM2 premiere, I felt really bad after seeing that movie, as well. I think I was just generally feeling bad those days.

Huh, I don't know how to explain that really. Interesting. /wishIcouldhelp

I did, but let's be real here. As movies they don't hold a candle to the Raimi ones. Maybe, i'm affected too much by the negativity and it's been a while since i watched the Raimi films, but... i can't help but feel that they had a more cohesive plot and Raimi knew what he wanted to do with the character. Now, i look at reviews and the box-office numbers for TASM2 and can't help but feel that Spider-man deserves better. I mean a movie about Captain America is going to outgross domestically a Spider-man movie. Who would have thought of that? And it's not like the critics have panned the movie down because it was a reboot or because it didn't need to exist. If the movie was good (again, as a movie) or at least, let's say, SM1, then it would have at least stayed fresh in RT.

Here are some quotes from critics -

Call me an old fuddy-duddy, but if you've seen one Spider-Man film, you've seen 'em all.

Left me bored when there was no action.

It's official, I think I hate every Spider-Man movie, except Spider-Man 2. Can we please have ONE Spider-Man film that doesn't have The Green Goblin?

All I heard was the sound of paychecks being cashed by everyone going through the motions for this perfunctory sequel.

Does anyone need these films, apart from the most addicted comics obsessives, and Stan Lee's financial advisers?

I wouldn't put much stock in the opinion of these people. A good chunk of them obviously have no knowledge of (or interest in) Spider-Man. Another chunk was only interested in over the top action (no doubt because they still have Avengers on the brain), and finally there's the group that criticizes the movie for existing in the first place.

If you can honestly say you watched this movie and you felt like ANY of the actors were just phoning it it for a paycheck... that's ********. And a lot of these reviews complain about Sony only forcing out this movie for money. They lump everyone involved into a category of "only doing it for the money". Which is so ridiculous when you see interviews with Andrew and anyone else involved.

A good amount of these critics realize that it's "hip" to hate the new Spider-Man series because it's a reboot. They went into this movie, knowing that they'd have a negative attitude from the get go. Word of mouth is a powerful thing, and when you have thousands of hipsters raging about how these movies didn't even need to exist and how the Raimi movies will always be the best Spider-Man movies... it doesn't matter what these movies are actually like. You have people going into the movies expecting it to be bad so they aren't even open to enjoying themselves.

I'm not saying that anyone who hates this movie is a hipster or anything like that. Everyone has different tastes and no movie is every universally loved. But there was a stigma attached to this franchise before it even came out, and it's not going away until... well until the next Spider-Man reboot. And that's really saddening, because these actors and crew members deserve a lot more credit than they are getting.

You realize this shot is literally 13 years old? :o

That'd be like me watching the original Robocop 13 years later and judging the special effects against the modern day standards.

Get serious.

I totally realize the shot is 13 years old and am not knocking the quality of it with that in mind, but I find it contradictory that you keep knocking the quality of the cgi in TASM2, but then point to a dated cgi shot from SM1 as your favorite. Unless you appreciate the cgi Spidey swing shots from TASM2 but are complaining about other aspects of the cgi?

Otherwise, it's kind of like saying "I hate this pomeranian dog, it's too small... my favorite dog is a chihuahua."

Here's the shot in motion if you guys wanna continute discussing it.

Personally, I think the CGI holds up incredibly well.

It was great for its day and I think it still looks really good, but I don't understand praising this shot and simultaneously knocking the cgi in TASM2 when the quality is clearly upgraded. That's baffling.

Hey guys, more pics and less debate on the merits of Raimi vs Webb. I'm not banning that as a topic in the forum, but this is a thread dedicated to the best shots from a Spidey film. Not a debate on plot points.

Not my single favorite shot (I'd say mine is the upside down kiss with MJ), but I always loved that they've adapted a panel from Flash/Barry Allen's debut issue:

Sorry, Spider-Fan.

I don't think I can narrow down to a singular favorite Spidey shot but here are a few of mine:

(the whole TASM2 extended swinging scene)

God I've loved that image since the first time I saw it in the trailer, but it was even better in the movie because of the way it was cut. An awesome and abrupt cut that made you want to scream in as much joy as Spider-Man is in that very shot.

My personal shot in all the films is probably still the final swing in the first one. I love long takes, especially ones like that where the camera is moving so elegantly and creatively. Starting level with spider-man, then going wide, then flying in between the cars to get back to spidey, then staying on his back and doing a nice 180 until falling back again to show that double flip before he leaps onto the pole and then swings into the camera. That was a high man, seeing that in the theater.

Sorry, Spider-Fan.

It just hit me but this looks a lot like something Marvel artist Gabriele Dell'Otto would paint. Probably me favorite final swing.

I love the shot in Spider-Man 2 where he swings between the semi and it's trailer, during the car chase. Hot damn!
