Apocalypse Certified Fresh or Fresh or Rotten? The ROTTEN TOMATOES Thread

Embargo lifting so early FELT like Fox was confident in it, but as others have said, it feels more like getting the bad reviews out of the way first, so those who care about those will have "hopefully" forgotten about those when it comes out. That or they didn't want to do what WB did with BvS embargo.

kevork89 also says it well, I'm surprised Fox decided to release it just two weeks and change after Civil War, I'm very curious to see the BO numbers for Apocalypse, I can't see it doing less than 600 million WW considering DOFP did so well, but curious to see if some of that superhero fatigue some people are talking about is here, I don't beileve there is such a thing but that's because we usually don't get 3 big CBM in such a short amount of time, spread them out a bit more.

If it does worse then origins then Wow it's not only gonna be the worst X-Men movie but also singers worst movie, he would have made the best and worst x-men movie

Magneto has been the center of all 6 movies! Doesn't make sense considering they're X-Men movies and he's had better development than Cyclops, Jean and Storm.

Again... who cares?

Not dismissing critics (I have quite a few friends who are critics) and they do matter to help championing smaller films in need of attention.

But come on, people. See the film yourself. Then formulate your own opinion and stop worrying about what this means to how you might view it (Spoiler: it shouldn't). And it goes without saying how flawed Rotten Tomatoes is with their rating system.

Civil War holds 90% score but I did not like it at all. It was boring with some highlights (Black Panther, some action scenes). In general, overrated as usual

Magneto has always been a major presence even in the comics, X-Men is X-Men.

I agree that critics can really help shine a light on the smaller indie films that no one would see otherwise or would have even heard of, but on all the other stuff, it's just ludicrous how much it makes people freak out.

I refuse to believe it's as bad as The Last Stand, and even TLS I find tolerable. It does seem though that the writing is at a major fault considering how many times it comes back as a flaw, character motivations, character use, the last battle being described as underwhelming.

Like it's been said, Civil War just came out and it does everything so wonderfully and seemingly effortlessly, it can only hurt if what you deliver is subpar in comparison.

It seems to me that most here are still seeing the movie. From what I've seen most who aren't are people who the marketing didn't grab

For me, there are plenty of times I've disagreed with the critical consensus, but with this film, I've already seen many X-Men films, some with a lot of the same cast members and some by the same director, so when a major complaint is that it's "more of the same" I kind of know what to expect. And that's not what the franchise needs right now.

Of course I'll still see it and judge for myself, but these reviews have kind of extinguished my excitement. Like the film is said to be going through the motions, I'll also be going through the motions when I buy my ticket :/

The marketing didn't grab me and the reviews make me nervous but I'm still seeing it because I like the cast.

Two new positives, up to 47%. Well, like 250 reviews to come.

Hopefully to will sit with the wolverine at 60%, the wolverine had the same it was ok response

Honestly I think the real reason it's underperforming is Civil War. Let's be honest. So close to its release and people's expectations are through the roof including critics. Had Civil War come out after Apocalypse I guarantee the critics reactions would be in the 80s. And Fox was expecting that. But people saw how good Civil War is and it raised the bar way too high. And the things they loved about Singer's movies before, just weren't cutting it. Honestly I think it's bad timing. From what I've gathered this is a general Singer X-Men film with more action and a longer running time. It's what fans have wanted. But the formula has become stale.

And I agree ^ people are way too concerned with a rotten rating.

Are you really serious? It would be in the 80s right away if Apocalypse was released first:huh:

The Winter Soldier didn't seem to matter to Days of Future Past's RT rating...

Winter soldier was different because it was more captain America and no one was expecting an avengers movie

Civil war feels like the avengers 3, it didn't feel like a captain America solo movie

And that changes the point he made how exactly? :whatever:

I re-watched the movie yesterday, and while I was waiting for my friend I heard a lot of people calling it an Avengers movie haha. It's a great movie, but the only difference between that and an Avengers movie is that Steve had the Tony sized part this time.

Critics shouldn't matter but let's be honest, we;re all human, it sucks when a film that you're invested in gets ****ted on by the vast majority and vitriol is thrown at it. I liked BvS, I feel like it was a movie made for me, but look what it's reception has done to the DC fandom, its practically broken. The BvS boards are sad and depressing whereas the CW boards are breakdancing and popping champagne. Its nice to share joy of a film you like with others and it sucks when you can't.

Now, I can't possibly believe Apocalypse is as bad as Last Stand (and for the record Last Stand really isn't that bad) but it sucks that what was being touted as the end all be all of X-men films, the grand culmination of what Bryan Singer started 16 years ago is not being received well.

Can't believe the RT score is currently lower than The Last Stand. I really hope it gets to at least 60%. Unlikely, if the reviews keep coming unchanged.

It will only drop from here.

And for those of us who are dissing the RT system I just want to point this out: you wouldn't be disregarding the percentage if the numbers were favorable. Again, these are the exact same critics that gave Bryan Singer's DOFP a 90+ Certified Fresh rating. :csad:

So no...there's no "conspiracy" my friends. No agenda. The film is apparently poor.

Exactly! And like I said before, DOFP is 1 of the only TWO Marvel films that have a "Top Critics" rating in the 90s.... the other one is Spider-Man 2.

I'm really struggling to believe that Apocalypse is worse than Last Stand I'm sorry that just isn't a possibility. Last Stand was a total mess. All of the reviews are mixed. Some love first half and hate second, others hate second and love first, some love Jen some hate her, some love Sophie, some don't.

The consistency is that there's some great character building at the beginning, good humor, Prof X, QS and Mags are all standouts. It just seems the story is a bit patchy but at least it's one main story and not two huge stories smashed together unevenly. I'm sorry that in itself makes it better than Last Stand and it shouldn't even be a comparison.

I can't imagine it being worse either, guess I'll find out in a few weeks.

I hear this arguement and I have to respectfully disagree. If I was watching an Avengers movies where 95% of the Avengers were only present in the second act and were totally absent in the final act, I would complain (unless there was a really, really good reason) and say it didn't feel like an Avengers movies.

I could ALMOST say it feels like a co-Ironman movie, but although he has a prominent role, it's nowhere near as much Cap's. He's the main unwilling Antagonist so it makes since he's there.

Couldn't agree more. What if your own opinion falls in line with the one critic who gave this film 4 out of 5 stars rather than the other, lets say, 10 critics who give it 2 out of 5 stars. What makes their opinions more right than your own? Ultimately how other people feel about something should not matter one bit in how you feel about it. After all, it is just opinions/preferences. Just my 2 cents.
