Supergirl Supergirl Season 2 Episode 1 - "The Adventures of Supergirl" MAJOR SPOILERS

Okay, when Supes saved that family from the drone, did anyone else catch the father saying how they were moving back to Gotham..?

Yup. That was in one of the promo trailers.

I think it's safe to say we won't be seeing time traveling in Supergirl.

What makes you say that?

We know Clark's traveled to the future since he's got a Legion Flight Ring, so time travel is definitely something that we could potentially see Kara end up having to deal with at some point.

Not necessarily. The LoSH could have traveled back in time to visit Clark and given him the ring.

well that still technically count's as it being shown at some point . Unless they sorta skip showing it on screen altogether. Ether way it won't be that different from small ville, where they found & approached clark. Only this time it might be kara in this point. Anyways' we'll see if and when that happens .

You're right.

Either way, though, the fact that Clark has a Legion Flight Ring (which, incidentally, we first saw on The Flash in "Welcome to Earth-2") proves that time travel has already been used on "Earth-S", thereby opening the potential for Kara to use it - or encounter it being used - at some point.

^ Not right now.

Same with Lucy and General Lane.

I do think we'll see them again at some point, though, even if they're currently MIA.

Tyler did a fine job as Superman. He can guess star anytime. The writer's once again pay homage to the Donner Superman universe by mentioning Lex setting off the earthquake in California.

I noticed that they cut out Winn asking how does Superman shave(unless that happens in part 2).

Cat grant being too much of a Tony Robbins. Like some have said she is like her life coach. Just don't overdo it every episode she stars in.

My eyes were not wrong. The CW video quality was inferior to the CBS broadcasts(speaking over the air broadcast). I record the episodes and for sure the CW used nearly 2 megabits less for the video. Don't know if that is common for them or just in the Los Angeles market.

Yes, that Legion flight ring shows that there was time traveling likely on the part of the Legion of Superheroes. If Kara is to time traveling, it would likely be related to Krypton or Legion of Superheroes in 31st Century to fall in love with Brainiac 5.

I hope Superman returns for the mid-season finale.

New Emergency Awesome recap:

The new guy definitely has Henry Cavill beat.

So yeah I was a little disapointed.... I'M KIDDING that was awesome.

First things first I want to talk about Superman, Tyler Hoechlin was, no... IS Superman. He was fantastic, I will wait until I've seen next weeks episodes and given it some thought but right now I'd rank him with the highest portrayals of the Man of Steel. I can say right off the bat that he gave my favourite intepretation of Clark Kent yet, the right amount of bumbling, nerdiness but also confidence, as a good reporter should be. I know a spin off is unlikely but the CW need to make sure we get more of this Superman/Clark Kent outside of the two episode appearances here.

Other positive thoughts:

- The FX were brilliant, the flying scenes looked phenomenal.
- Seeing Superman and Kara work together was just an absolute joy. The moment at the end when he said he would stick around and how he liked her been able to tell him about home made me feel warm inside.
- The callbacks to Superman the Movie were brilliant.
- The tension between Superman and J'onn felt very natural, I think it made sense too. It's not J'onn he doesn't trust with the Kryptonite but the DEO (if J'onn wasn't in charge anymore)
- I really liked John Corben and (can I just say I called the ending of the episode) I can't way to see him as Metallo next week.
- I liked Lena Luthor but I do not trust her, I think much like Lex Luthor on Smallville she will probably have a darkside.

Now for some things I didn't like:

- the way Winn joined the DEO, it was just too convenient. For me it would have been better if they'd have brought him in because they could trust him. We know from Season One Hank and Alex had some problems with the DEO when they went on the run so that would have made more sense.
- Kara and Jimmy calling it a day, wow was this forced, sure the Kara Jimmy relationship hasn't been let's say popular with audiences but they should have at least had some time together to figure out its not working. After Clark told her about how he struggles to live as Clark Kent dating Lois while been Superman to me it would have made more sense to have seen her try. I now struggle to see where Jimmy fits in to the show.
- Cat life coaching Kara, it was just to much, they could have cut these scenes down easily. I get that they'll want to use Calista much as possible when they have her but just find her something more to do then.
- I wish they'd kept Winn's How Do You Shave line but I guess it was cut for time.

Still those issues were fairly minor and outside of that this was probably the best episode of Supergirl yet.

Overall rating 8.7 (9)/10

That's another thing I haven't mentioned. The first review we got said this was a return to pre-Crisis Clark, and I was worried we were just going to get another Reeve copy, as that's not my preferred version of Clark. But what we actually got was PERFECT, imo. A little feigned Reeve-esque clumsiness, sure, but overall, he was still very much being himself, ala Lois & Clark, and that was a guy that other people legitimately respected, while at the same time would never suspect of being Superman, ala STAS. He even had some of that George Reeves charm/confidence as Clark. It's like the ultimate combination of previous versions that ended up forming my ideal Clark Kent.

100% I thought it was a perfect balance, the clumsiness didn't feel overdone and it was very minor. I loved the part coming out of the elevator where he bumped into that guy and Kara said something like "you've got that clumsy routine down" and he said "that was real" haha

Loved the S2 premiere, has to be one of the best episodes that the CW has ever managed to put out, and I've been watching (or trying to watch) everything they've done since Smallville (lost interest in both Arrow and LoT, not sure about the current season of The Flash though).

Favorite new thing was Hoechlin as CK/Superman. Holy crap he was awesome, and his characterization was nearly ideal as both personas, basically not far from the STAS and Lois & Clark mold that I grew up on.

Cat Grant's "Miss Tessmacher!" had me rolling, she did that line way more justice than Gene Hackman ever did. And then she did it again later on, which just killed me. :p

I really hope the CW can maintain the premiere's standards with the rest of the season. Definitely going to be catching every episode as they air now!

Watched it. Loved it. I really enjoyed the Season 2 premiere way more than what I've seen of Season 1 and hope the rest of the Season remains as strong. Hoechlin was great as Superman and Clark, and is easily one of my favorite portrayal of the character.

Great start to the season, I like the focus on Kara wanting to define herself as Kara and not just Supergirl, the reporter role will give her some interesting story avenues.

The scenes with Kara and Clark were fantastic, the whole dynamic between the 2 as both cousins and heroes was pitch perfect.

Everything with Kara and Cat was great as always, I wonder if whatever is going on with Cat will lead to the in show reason for Calista appearing less.

Hoechlin instantly became my favourite Clark/Superman. :supes:

I loved their first heroic team up saving a shuttle and the stuff with the chopper was really oldschool comic bookyness, especially the way they both popped up in front of it out of nowhere, perfectly synchronized lol. My action highlight might have been Alex vs Corbin though, great stuff from Chyler in that fight scene.

Lena Luthor is an intriguing addition, I thought the actress did a good job playing the role ambigous enough that I genuinely feel Lena could go either way.

The reactions to Superman were interesting, Alex kinda swooned, J'onn and him have issues and Winn geeked out. :funny:

I'm a big fan of Metallo so the final scene rocked my nerdometer! ;nd

Random question: did anybody happen to notice who got "regular billing"?

The only minor issue that I have is that the Kara/Jimmy breakup happened really quick. Like we barely got to see them together and she didn't even seem to really try. It also seems to go against his advice on how he makes his relationship with Lois work. It's like they just decided to drop that plot-line right out of the blue, and it felt kind of forced to me honestly. Also I hope that they have something else lined up for Jimmy to do, because he feels kind of superfluous to the show right now.

But other than that, I really loved the premiere. Everything else worked really well.

I really hope future episodes dont have the threads locked. Not sure I get the logic behind that. It defeats the purpose of live posting and all discussion ended up going in the general discussion thread which probably should be spoiler free

I did not want voting to happen early, I actually meant to have it opened as soon as it started, but I got side tracked...that won't happen again, I had a viewing party and never got back to the computer. Oooops....:csad:

From this point on I won't put the poll up until after the episode airs on the east coast, but the thread will remain open which is how we did it last year and it worked. I just knew that I wouldn't be on after the episode so I put the poll up early and closed the thread....THINKING I would get a chance to quickly open....but that time did not come.

I forgot to mention I loved that they actually mentioned why Superman looked younger than he appears.

I am thinking now that Kara is a reporter, James will be her photographer. Like Jimmy was with Lois. It would probably be the result of a demotion.
Cat gives up day to day operations and puts Snapper Carr in charge. James has a run in with Snapper Carr but manages to not get fired outright,
like Winn did. So the only job left for James at Catco is photographer.

Really enjoyed the premiere. Though, I probably shouldn't stay up till 1 anymore waiting for CW to upload the latest episode.
