MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 4

I dont need the netflix stuff to cross over into the movie stuff. I'm okay knowing in my mind that they exist in the same world. I dont need a full blown crossover.

I wouldn't say AoS sucks. It has it's glaring weaknesses but overall the writing has been strong, albeit cheesy in parts. Ghost Rider alone helps me forget the growing pains it went through in season 1.

The street-level Netflix heroes don't need to pop into the movies. It'd be cool if handled properly, but it isn't necessary.

Yeah in theory seeing the heroes together would be cool, but I feel like it would be jarring to see characters that are shot in a more reserved manner thrown into this for the most part brightly lit, quipathon that are the films. And I don't mean that as insult to either.

However I wouldn't mind if in The Defenders, either Stark, Fury, or Hill make a small cameo trying to recruit the Defenders at the end of the final episode. Then the Defenders can say, either in a hostile way or not, Nah we're good. We're going to fight for the everyday people. You guys can deal with the global stuff

And then maybe, if Thanos's forces attack Earth instead of the Avengers taking the fight to him, you can show them fighting off whoever in a brief cameo. Maybe.
The 2nd paragraph thing is what I really want to happen/what I think should happen

If Thanos is attacking New York, I'd love a cameo of the Defenders just defending New York, helping evacuate civilians, or whatever. As long as Spider-Man isn't directly helping the Avengers, they could have him interact. I know they hesitate to add characters without giving their scenes meaning, but I don't think it would come off as gratuitous at all.

That being said, if the movie takes place in space, obviously don't put the Defenders there.

I would love to see at least a reference, even better a blink and you miss cameo. But I'd also be cool with anything more they want to do. Wouldn't be quite happy with not even some kind of reference though.

Same.

I'd love them to share screentime but if they don't, I at least want a reference somewhere.

You mean his persistent unwillingness to have. . . Netflix characters who are utterly irrelevant to the movie plots show up in the movies anyway? Because not using the AoS cast has a far easier explanation: the show sucks.

AOS is more uneven than awful and certain characters are worthy of making the leap to the big screen. That one guy Phil seems to have some potential.

CW ignored the explosion of super powered humans on AOS - are future films going to do the same for the whole frikkin' Inhuman royal family? Is Spider-man: Homecoming going to even mention Daredevil or the other super powered folks working a few blocks over from Peter? Are the movies going to pretend that the Runaways, Cloak and Dagger, Daughters of the Dragon and Heroes for Hire don't exist? If Marvel is going to have Fox-verse style continuity with its live action properties they may as well do what DC is doing and have TV and film versions of the same characters.

Folks got into the MCU due to the possibility of our favorite characters meeting our other favorite characters on the big screen. Now we're told that many of those meetings can never happen, likely due to internal company politics. It's just like Spidey, the FF and the X-Men being kept out of the MCU due to studio contracts, but much more ridiculous. That sucks way worse than AOS.

At least films have effect on the shows. Two-way interaction would be preferred, but what we have is still better than nothing.

As it is now, films are the core of MCU and shows are an unnecessary, but entertaining appendix.

Yes it's better as a one way thing than nothing at all.

When it comes to things that are unnecessary though a big proportion of the stuff that has succeeded in this unique MCU project could easily have been called unnecessary at the time they were being planned. There was no need to go beyond just trying to make good solo films and have them linked in this way or to do a team up film. Every reference and easter egg we get is unnecessary too but that doesn't mean they aren't worth doing. A Defenders cameo is going to make pretty much no difference to how good IW is. Even if it turns out great it could still be called unneccesary.

Anyone watched this video about the weak color grading in the Marvel films?

[YT]hpWYtXtmEFQ[/YT]

It's something i had kind of noticed, but never thought too deeply about. With Marvel i think it would have fitted for them to push the colors more than they usualy do.

The MCU has been pretty consistent, but i realy hope they try improving weaker points like this one and the soundtrack.

I like those type of smart, well thought out, critique videos. Always learn something.

Apparently Fiege's contract with Marvel runs out in 2018. Thoughts?

Err....my idea is to
renew it

Took me 4 days to think up that solution. :yay:

Chris Lark:
Capt. Britain news: 1st Season Episode Guide and Script of 1st Episode for CB are done @MOVIESEL5 & I continue working on pitch package.

Is it going to be set in the MCU.

Is it a real Captain Britain show or just a fanmade thing?

Marvel's made no announcement about a Captain Britain show.

The rumours surfaced originally in March, with Ciara McAvoy making various tweets about a tv show, which were subsequently debunked apparently, although now this Chris Lark guy is saying its real. I dunno.......

Such a great character, I only hope there is some truth, would love him to be incorporated into the cinematic Marvel universe, which I don't understand why he can't be given the UK have & contribute large volume of $$$ box office to the studio and popularity would back the decision.

I googled it and can't find anything beyond this one guy's efforts to get his pitch on Fiege's desk. I don't think anyone should get their hopes up here.

Feige will renew it. He's only 43 and is nowhere near retirement age. And if he leaves Marvel, he would just go work elsewhere in the film industry anyway.

Yeah the Britain stuff is probably just people trying to pitch the property and they are spreading it on social media to build buzz and hype for it.

Not worried at all. From what I understand they have stuff laid out until 2028. I think Fiege wants to stay around to continue what he started.

Yeah, I'd love a Captain Britain TV show. I'm hoping for a collaboration with a British network (such as ITV or maybe even BBC) as a sort of Marvel meets Doctor Who type show that can then air on BBC America. But I doubt it's more than a sales pitch at this point.

Alan Moore's CB run in the 80's absolutely blew my mind and made CB my favourite Marvel character. To this day whenever I re-read the TPB I’m struck by how easy it would be to adapt due to the way its written - flashbacks to his origin, Jaspers Warp, his death at the hands of the Fury and subsequent resurrection, the Crazy Gang, Slaymaster, Vixen, Gatecrasher's Technet, Sat-Yr-9, Kaptain Briton, R.C.X. (S.T.R.I.K.E.), the introduction of Meggan, warpies, Betsy as Captain Britain etc.

'Dipped in magic. Clothed in science'.

Now there's an awesome tagline.

Rupert Penry Jones was born to play him too.

I would rather they keep it on Netflix, but they could still involve BBC.

I don't know anything about Captain Britain, but I would want it to be lighter than the other Netflix shows.

That year is also when Iger will retire and Alan Horn has said he will step down as the head of Walt Disney Studios when that occurs. So we are very likely to see some restructuring at that time. I think that Kathleen Kennedy will be taking over for Horn and Feige will oversee Lucasfilm in addition to Marvel Studios.
