The Official Boxing Thread!!! - Part 4

I just read that Lomachenko offered to spar with McGregor and McGregor said he needs to fight Rigo. In other words "no". He'd have been an idiot to get into the ring with Lomachenko for more than one reason. Lomo doesn't bring anything to the table that Conor needs. He certainly doesn't fight like Mayweather and he's a southpaw. Also, that would be flat out ugly to see Conor trying to hit Lomo while he's eating 3 and 4 punch combinations. Lomo is doing some grandstanding and trying to get in a little on the hype methinks.

In any case, Conor has no business in the ring with Lomo (or Mayweather), but we'll see for sure soon. I doubt he would even make a good sparring partner.

Not to mention the weight difference. Lomo is like 130 max while Connor gets up to at least 170 at times.

There is the weight difference, but McGregor (from what I've read) isn't quite that much bigger. He has to push himself to get up to 168 or so and easily tips the scales at 155 just by being in shape (again, this is from what I've read). Lomo would not be a big lightweight, but not small either. I'd say the difference would be more in the range of 20 pounds. McGregor couldn't catch Lomo with a net if they were in the ring.

I agree Lomo is skilled and in a 12 round fight, he'd probably win. But I give Connor the same chance I give him for beating Floyd: a puncher's chance. I know it's a small chance but all it takes is one punch and you just never know.

I was talking about sparring sessions. Conor would be knocking the crap out of the air inside the ring if he sparred with Lomo. Over 12, he doesn't stand up and I give a "real" puncher a puncher's chance against a top flight, skilled champion. That is not Conor. People are talking themselves into giving Conor any sort of a chance against a Mayweather who hasn't fallen off the cliff.

Gambling wise, I wouldn't bet a penny on Connor but he "does" have a "puncher's" chance. A slim chance but a chance none the less. He's not a boxer but a MMA fighter...............Can't think straight now...........drinking! :argh:

Give me a few drinks and I'd be thinking I could go 15 rounds with prime George Foreman.

Everybody has a chance. There is a big difference however of a miracle and a legit shot. Conor can win. So could anyone one of us if the circumstances favored us just right. That does not make Conor a legit or correct choice. If he somehow won, everyone who picked him would still be wrong because it won't be because Conor had a puncher's chance. It is because something happened to Floyd.

If Floyd moves to his right or left, tears the ligaments in his knee, falls and separates his shoulder, I "think" I win.

So, yeah, Conor can win. I stand corrected.

True dat but booze does make a man invincible...in his head.

Yeah. I said earlier that the odds of a Lomo/Garcia bout are about the same as a resurrection. You seen any of those lately? :cwink:

It's too bad because I really think Lomo beats Garcia. He's SO active and (wait for it :woot: ) comes at you from so many different angles he's almost impossible to defend. There just doesn't seem to be a pattern to his attacks.

There's one other thing that people may be overlooking. Lomo is a southpaw who also has an outstanding jab. That's not very common and is very difficult to handle. I only fought a couple of southpaws and found them rather confusing. My manager had me keep my left foot on the outside of his front foot. That gave me better angles than my opponent. An advantage that I had was that I was very tall and rangy for my weight, had a very good left jab and moved very well to my left.

The problem that Vasyl presents is that he moves really, REALLY well to either side and keeping outside of him looks to be nearly impossible. That gives him a decided advantage. He comes at you moving to his right (your left), gives you that stiff jab, then goes quickly to the body or throws an uppercut. Then comes that left cross. The uppercut he throws with either hand is nasty (and you can capitalize that).

One last thing.....his pivot. Most fighters use a pivot to get out of the way. He uses it as an offensive weapon and punishes the body from the side. Most people are used to fighting people in front of them and defending someone to your side isn't something you normally have to think too much about, but this guy will rack you from there.

OK, I'm done. :woot:

I really hoped I wrote this before the Lomo Marriaga fight, but, alas, I didn't. I accidentally kept the recording of it and watched it tonight. If it is at all interesting to you, watch the fight but don't look at the punches (yeah, I know that's not what we've been trained to do). Look at where Lomo's right foot is. It's almost always on the outside of Marriaga's left foot or else he's moving forward.

This is another problem when you get into the ring with a southpaw. If he's on the outside of you or backing you up, he's either killing you on the angles or screwing up your footwork (stepping on your foot for example).

I watched the fight and looked only at their feet. Lomo's footwork is impeccable/flawless (whatever you want to call it). If you can, just watch the feet. It's true that getting into the ring with a higher quality opponent changes things, but this guy's footwork and quickness is beyond reproach. Stepping up to 140 with Crawford is a huge risk and, from where I sit, that's the only way this dude loses.

So tonight it's Crawford vs Indongo and the first official Undisputed title fight since Hopkins vs Taylor 2 in 2005. Crawford is too skilled , he's got this.

No, it's tomorrow night! :argh:

Oh yeah, my bad. Too many blows to the head from old man Foreman. he even hit me with the Lean, Mean Grill Machine.

Anthony Joshua is said to be bummed out because Wladimir retired. I know he called out Tyson Fury, who also retired but he and Wilder need to happen. Wilder has been calling him out a lot and everwhere. I do think AJ is being smart about and letting that fight marinate.

LOL. Dude, if you ever "were" in the ring with big George, I'd completely understand....and I'd even give you back your head from my seat in the 2nd row. I suspect you were indulging in a Friday nite gin binge. :oldrazz::cwink:

I've only seen a couple of Crawford's fights and he looked pretty frelling tough; which is why I think Lomo stepping up against a bigger bad ass like him would be a real risk. I haven't seen the other dude so I don't know. My guess is that Crawford pretty much kills him unless that dude is a major bad ass.

Yeah that's a couple of big fights lost. There are only so many super-fights available in the division so he wants to be able to prove himself (and make the big money while he can lol). The Wilder fight will be huge when it happens.

If they don't lose. I can see AJ keeping his 0 but not sure about Wilder. He needs a new training staff.

Has he been looking a bit vulnerable recently?

Look at all that bling folks. This is what an Undisputed Champion looks like.

The body shot was absolutely brutal.
