The Last Jedi General Episode VIII News/Speculation/SPOILER Thread - Part 10

The difference is that Logan had an all-out, balls-to-the-wall action scene before he went out. It was fantastic and Logan at his best again. I was expecting something similar for Luke.

Also, is this the first Star Wars movie without an actual lightsaber on lightsaber battle??

Wait, what? Isn't there at least a single duel in the film? Or are there just lightsaber vs blaster battles?

Tell me there is at least 1 lightsaber action scene...

Right, I agree. I had no problem with Luke dying, provided it happened in Episode 9 and it made him look like Luke Skywalker in doing so. But who knows, my hope is still that he returns as a physical character in 9 rather than just a ghost.

Just bought my tickets for midnight tonight. I thought it was coming out on the 15th here but my cinema is showing tickets for tonight.

Multiple people who have seen it have said that the only lightsaber duel takes place at the end between Kylo and Luke, but the entire "fight" is just Luke dodging his strikes. Their lightsabers never actually physically hit each other.

Yeah.
Luke dying is absolutly okay, but it needs to be done at the right time after the epic finale etc.

I wouldnt rule out Luke coming back either way.
If the fandom pushes for it and all that...then the chances are high.

You have almost unlimited possibile explenations for something like this even.
I mean we are talking about the force here, who says that you cant have the excuse of someone being so strong in the force that he can materialize his body again or some stuff?
Everything is possible, we need to see and wait what will happen.

There was only
lightsabers vs the Praetorian Guards.
That's it. :csad:

Yeah, I sort of knew that
Luke would die, but I was really hoping he would at least have some lightsaber action before doing so! The set up when he stepped out to face Kylo was so good with the music and badass walk, I was already thinking that this is what Superman's return should have been like in JL. Then it became the most underwhelming duel ever. Sure, Luke had a cool move but he doesn't even duel. I wanted to see him in action like what Rogue One gave us with Darth Vader.

Thanks for clarifying.

I would suggest putting spoiler tags when revealing key scenes regarding the film.

It hasn't premiered yet everywhere.

Well, I can kinda forgive it since this is a middle portion where everything falls apart, and the Force vs. Force stuff probably wont' come into play until the next one.

Oh. Idk if it's directed at me, but I was surprised this thread is also titled a spoiler thread, and people have been discussing the spoilers openly. :funny: Sorry anyhow.

Ugh it was so frustrating. And it was only 2 dodges.

It's fine, this wasn't directed to you but to the poster above (Young Skywalker) who straight out answered my question by revealing a key scene from the film.

This film is ordinary as hell. Full review when I get home.

Agreed. Whatever we think or hope would happen is irrelevant because the folks in charge really dont give a crap. This film is living proof of that. I shutter to think on what a trilogy under Rian's control will end up looking like.

Don’t be silly now. Just because the people in charge do something and make choices you might not agree with doesn’t mean they don’t give a crap.

Saw it, loved it. It was amazing.

Glad you enjoyed it man.

Did you find it unsatisfying? I recall one tweet describing the movie as the 80s high he's been chasing and this was nowhere near it for me.

I feel like none of the characters were done any justice to.

That may have been the intent. They've been built up for decades and in past movies, and this is kind of a....cynical way to show how it may not have meant all that much.

And that was the best story they could come up with??? WTF??

This is what happens when the expectations are through the roof.

Yup completely agreed. If there's one word to sum up this movie for me, it would "stagnant". I never got the sense that the movie was building up to something, that the story was moving forward. There was no momentum. It felt really aimless and pointless. Throw in the characters doing really random things, it's such a let-down.

This is what happens when the expectations are through the roof.

I purposely avoided all pieces of information outside of this film bar the trailers and read no reviews, didn't even look on RT. My expectation were firmly in check. This film was a mess and a slap in the face to every character, new and old. At least the prequels had some interesting design elements, this just feel tired and boring at times.
