All I ask is his characterization is a lot better than it was in JL.

I’m sure it will be.
I think the main problem with him in JL was that they didn’t really know what to do with him outside of be a comedic relief.

I think it’s safe to assume that the movie will have a lot of Comedy but I’d bet that it’ll be better written than what we saw in JL too.

It would be nice to know which books the Goldstein and Daley are looking at for inspiration.

Rumor from DCEU Leaks, which has been hit or miss when it comes to scoops. So obviously take this all with a pinch of salt:

Warner put FLASHPOINT on the backburner to focus on standalone movies, but it might still happen in the future.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are currently writing a new draft, which is said to be "very comedic" and with lower stakes, so no time travel, alternate realities, end of the world, etc.
The Rogues are slated to be the villains. Right now the line-up is Captain Cold, Mirror Master and Weather Wizard, but that's subject to change.
Jay Garrick will be featured in a "mentor role". No word on whether he'll be a speedster in it.
Kiersey Clemons and Billy Crudup still set to appear alongside Ezra Miller. Although they're not casting phase yet, WB reportedly wants an A-lister for Jay Garrick (think Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise), while Daley & Goldstein are looking at actors with dramatic and comedic chops for the Rogues.
Channing Tatum is a favorite for Captain Cold, and he's been on WB's radar ever since Phil Lord & Chris Miller were involved with the project, but there have been no formal talks.
WB eyeing 2020 release date. Strong possibility of it being released in November/December like AQUAMAN and WONDER WOMAN 2.

Most of that honestly sounds like guess work, but the idea of Garrick as a mentor is intriguing.

Yeah, it makes not really saying much sound like they're saying a lot. Most of that seems to be what many people had guessed/surmised anyway.

"very comedic" and with lower stakes, so no time travel, alternate realities, end of the world, etc.

So not Flashpoint then. I'm starting to cool towards this project again.

I often try not to get ahead of myself with these kinds of things, but I don't think it's getting ahead of myself to say there's no way in hell Flashpoint happens at this point in time. As cool as it might be to see some of that stuff brought to life, it just doesn't make sense right now.

I absolutely agree it makes no sense to do Flashpoint now after the poor reception of Justice League (still can't believe I'm having to say that :csad:).

I was just saying...

and

... "very comedic" and with lower stakes, so no time travel, alternate realities, end of the world, etc.

were kinda conflicting. I probably could have phrased it better.

Then simply do a Flash origin film or a solo standalone film separate

I definitely want an origin Flash movie as I didn't watch his TV shows. I hope they just call it "The Flash".

All of this sounds very intriguing, and I kinda' hope Jay is a Speedster in this (although I'd kinda' have to ask where he's been up until now; surely Bruce (or by extension, Luthor) would have something on him.

I don't quite see how this would be an origin storyline though; presumably if Barry was to be tutored, he'd not be the fool he appears to be in JL, so this solo outing would surely take place after the events of JL?

In any case, the Rogues as the villain(s) make complete sense, though I'm eager for a Thawne cameo (as stated before). I really don't get the fascination with Tom Cruise though; he hasn't done a good movie in years, and I'd very much like him to stay removed from the superhero genres; no Avengers, no Justice League, nothing. Keep Cruise away from this stuff. He's just a big name that'll add nothing to performance. There's so many other actors they can cast as Jay Garrick.

Regarding the films (and assuming Trilogy treatment)

The Scarlet Speedster (Film #1)
The Flash (Film #2)
The Fastest Man Alive (Film #3)

Flashpoint would be something ... different; similarly to Civil War cause of the likely ensemble.

Ditto on Cruise. Nothing against him personally (his personal beliefs are just that - personal, he seems to have plenty of time for his fans) but he is one of those actors who I cannot stand watching - especially in action stuff.

How soon can we enjoy another movie you worked on? I absolutely loved Vacation and Game Night.

If all goes well, sometime in 2020.

Thought Game Night was a cool movie with inventive directorial flourish so

I'm great. :D :D How are you dude??

I was heartbroken

after JL so I took a sabbatical for a month or so and I had stopped posting frequently in the DC threads ever since. But I'm starting to get back in the game. You'll see a lot more of me in the AQM, Shazam & WW84 threads. Once a DC loonie, always a DC loonie. :D :D

I'm good thanks.

On behalf of 99% of the DC loonies - welcome back :woot:

Then I would rather Brad Pitt play Garrick instead

Given the plot of Game Night, I wonder if there will be some Back to the Future Part II style time travel in The Flash.
Barry going back in time to same place over and over and having to watch out for his past selves.

Something I’m really excited about with Flash’s solo is a new costume.
I did like what we got in JL but I REALLY want something very classic looking for his solo.

Yeah, I liked his costume in JL more than a lot of people it seems, but it would be nice to see a more 'comic book' costume next time.

Seeing Aquaman in his classic costume and looking badass has me wanting classic costumes all around. :funny:

His JL costume was a Phase One look through and through. I'd be shocked if it was never anyone's intention for Barry to evolve past the armor plating.

That's how I feel as well.

Think we're going to get anything about the Flash this weekend?

I hope so. Other than news about the directors things have been suspiciously quiet on that front since JL. We heard it's going to be more Back to the Future than Flashpoint but other than that we don't really know anything.

I'd love to know what the Flash movie discussions have been like post-JL!
