General Election 2020: Biden vs Trump

Pandering isn't racist. Cringe, yes. Not racist.

And its possible Biden does like the song. Ive got French and German and Spanish music in my Spotify rotation. Some Americans are a little cultured.:o

Seriously tho Biden should arrive at the first debate driving a taco truck and cater tacos for the whole audience. Then promise a taco truck on every street corner if he is elected. :hehe:
That would be the first cool thing he has done, and I would vote for him solely based on that. Well no, because Trump, but you get the idea.

‘A heart pumping blue blood:’ How fast-growing Orlando threatens Trump’s reelection

One quote gives me hope: "Miller noted that Florida Republicans “have always dominated” casting absentee ballots, but Trump’s rhetoric against voting by mail led to a sharp dropoff in the practice in his and other races. At the same time, Democrats encouraged voting by mail and Miller’s opponent, freshman Democratic commissioner Emily Bonilla, essentially had the race won before Election Day on Aug. 18."

Like I said Florida will be a tight race. What support Democrats lack in Cubans and maybe Venezuelan they make up with other Latino support especially Puerto Ricans. I live in Orlando and yes here you can definitely tell there is way more support for Biden than Trump. Biden was smart yesterday coming to Kissimmee, FL and appealing to the huge Puerto Ricans population. I suspect that Biden support with Latino here is stronger then that NBC poll showed. We shall wait and see.

Many repubs are freaking out about this.

It's not just FL, but in every competitive state that allows no excuse absentee voting. GOP operatives rely on robust vote-by-mail turnout to get candidates elected -- and since a GOP 'president' is suppressing it, they're alarmed AF since Democrats are enthusiastically embracing vote by mail.

Note in that Politico article that these areas in Florida usually have low turnout (Orange, Oseola, Miami-Dade, Broward). If turnout was average to the rest of the state, the GOP would've lost the 2016 presidential election, the 2018 Senate race, and the last two governors' races. Imagine if Trump, Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis LOST the 2016 and 2018 races...

Voting matters. Especially if you're a Floridian.

Knock on a forest of wood.

Desantis IS gonna pull some ****ery, we know it. That's why numbers is a huge deal. Voter suppression along a broad spectrum of methods and strategies is now one of the few cards the GOP has to play. Trump's take over means he is in charge of the message, whatever the party's official line is, he has set the tone and framed all their messaging along with his subordinates and cronies in the White House. The message is we have made no moves beyond mobilizing our most loyal of base and those who vote Republican regardless every time. Even if they weren't all so terribly compromised morally already, well dirty pool is all they got to work with and it is obvious from misinformation passed around online, to allied media giving mega phones to voices of dissent on the Left, to the laundry list of state by state actions by Republicans to disenfranchise as many as they can or by creating on purpose situations that make voting difficult (And in this time possibly even dangerous.) , this bottom of the barrel plan of attack is all they got left outside of their all fear, all the time red meat to the crazies. We just have to see the actions of local Republican authorities to see. Combined with gerrymandering, which is where the GOP members in congress get roped in, this is where the GOP has been headed for a really long time. Demagoguery, lies, paranoia and voter intimidation and suppression are the only cards they play.

Election Margin Results
2016: Clinton (D) +2.1 (RCP September 16 average off by 0.6)
2012: Obama (D) +3.9 (RCP September 16 average off by 0.8)
2008: Obama (D) +7.3 (RCP September 16 average off by 8.6)

Trump is now retweeting false Qanon conspiracy theories about the fires and Antifa. How utterly predictable.

He can't really try the voter suppression tactic if people request absentee ballots and drop them off in person at their local county board of elections or at an early voting site.

Voting by mail is still fraught with problems in the Sunshine State, especially back in 2018. It's a good thing Trump played his hand early enough for people across the country to make contingency plans if they planned to vote by mail.

I hope 11/3 surprises me in a good way.

I think Trump is trying to cherry pick the states where mail in voting will help him (not necessarily down ballot) and where it won't. If I recall correctly, he came out some time ago telling people to vote absentee in Florida. I'm not sure that message really got through as he's been ranting about absentee voting almost every day.

Anecdotal info on Pennsylvania.....my cousin lives in rural Pennsylvania and dislikes Trump with a passion. She says she can't admit she's voting for Biden because it's really not safe to do so.........Secret/Hidden Biden voters?? :hehe:

Sanders supporters were loud and obnoxious and seemingly outnumbered Biden and Clinton supporters on the internet and he/they still got rolled in 2016 and 2020. Basically the more extreme left or right you are the louder those communities are on the internet. Those in the middle or normal people don't feel the need to shout politics every waking hour of the day.

I think the way we're eventually going to get more progressive people into office is by voting in the Bidens of the world who will hopefully, as a matter of political necessity, implement some of their programs (most of which will be very popular once they have been established). I would love to see some pandering to the left; M4A, paid family leaves, childcare and early childhood education, etc. It drives me crazy that people in the center of the political spectrum in the US, can't seem to grasp that these types of policies work for the average working person.....as they cash their Social Security checks. LOL.

I'm irked by the notion that middle = normal.

Yeah. When I referred to the center of the political spectrum in the US, I was thinking about that. It's a large, powerful group of people though.....

But how? The ultimate pressure over a candidate is the vote. By what means can Biden be pushed left once he already has those? Serious question.

Sure. I've said before that my view of Biden is that he is not an ideologue. He is a pragmatic politician and will bend to the winds of public opinion. He's not the kind of leader that Warren or Sanders is. He won't take issues head on, but if he sees a majority of people pushing M4A, for example, I think he's likely to adopt it or, at least, move significantly in that direction. Look at the ACA. As much as it is lacking, it's generally on the popular side and people, again, in general, don't want to see it gutted. It's my belief that if Biden is elected, we will see a public option very quickly; a significant step in the right direction.

I could be dead @$$ wrong, but if you look at the political trends in the US, I think they are moving (way too slowly) in the correct (was gonna say "right" LOL) direction. There are, of course, some notable exceptions; the current administration being one of them.

Politico - The Governor Who Holds Trump’s Fate in His Hands
Ron DeSantis rode a Trump tweet to victory in Florida. Can he keep the pandemic at bay long enough to return the favor?

“Everybody in the White House besides the president can’t stand Ron anymore because they realize, and now I think the president is realizing, that he made Ron DeSantis, and Ron isn’t really doing anything to help him win Florida. He’s focused on his own political career right now.”

“[DeSantis] isn’t appreciative enough.”

“The president regularly believes that the governor forgets how good he has been to him. Just about everyone around the president would have Ron’s head on a spike.”

“If we lose the White House because of Florida, people will know who Ron DeSantis is.”

:vln:

On one hand, more people should see him flame out like that. On the other hand, he will be depressed about the ratings.

Only thing that would make this story better would be to find out his campaign paid for the event and air time. I don't understand why Disney would do this ad for Trump for free, and it's disturbing one way or the other.

I mean, they thought it would be ratings. But this can only mean they will be less willing to give him air time. I mean, even Fox News isn't broadcasting his every word at rallies any more.

That’s what I like to hear. Was she accurate in 2016 though?

She did not get 2016 correct. She is quick to point out the problem spots in the 2016 polling, noting that there were a large number of undecided voters compared to 2020 (who either didn’t vote or voted third party) and over sampling of college educated voters compared to non-college educated voters.

She tested her model initially during the 2017 special elections in Virginia (where she is based), which accurately predicted the state shifting from red to solid blue. And her real money maker ended up being the 2018 midterm predictions (where she accurately predicted a strong negative partisanship surge in the suburbs against Trump). Now people are taking her prediction models seriously.

DeSantis has the personality of a cinder block. If FL goes blue this year, I hope voters toss his ass out in 2022.
