General Election 2020: Biden vs Trump

She did not get 2016 correct. She is quick to point out the problem spots in the 2016 polling, noting that there were a large number of undecided voters compared to 2020 (who either didn’t vote or voted third party) and over sampling of college educated voters compared to non-college educated voters.

She tested her model initially during the 2017 special elections in Virginia (where she is based), which accurately predicted the state shifting from red to solid blue. And her real money maker ended up being the 2018 midterm predictions (where she accurately predicted a strong negative partisanship surge in the suburbs against Trump). Now people are taking her prediction models seriously.
Ok, thanks for that info.

Did anyone watch the Joe Biden press conference a few minutes ago? Parts of it needs to be aired over and over again to let people really see the difference between him and Trump. Example: we have all seen people ask Trump what his plan for releasing the covid vaccine would be....and he gives one of those rambling idiotcies like "W have a great plan, it;s a good plan, we will distribute it greatly.....".....a reported asked Biden what his plan on distributing the vaccine would be, and he said something like this - "It depends on the vaccine approved. There is one promising vaccine (and he named the lab working on it) that the vaccine will have to be shipped in containers at -70 degrees. For this one , you would have to ship in large bulky containers, so they would be shipped to hospitals. There is another promising vaccine that can be shipped regularilly, so they can be sent individual doctor's offices or places like Walgreens.

Not only can he say a coherant sentence, he can put them together into groups of sentences and he shows an understand of scientific facts.

Trump will gish gallop at a debate.

If you don't know what that is, it's when you spew so many lies and falsehoods into a short period of time that they cannot all be debunked in a reasonable time in response.

As the saying goes, 'a lie travels faster than the truth.'

I think Trump is trying to cherry pick the states where mail in voting will help him (not necessarily down ballot) and where it won't. If I recall correctly, he came out some time ago telling people to vote absentee in Florida. I'm not sure that message really got through as he's been ranting about absentee voting almost every day.

Anecdotal info on Pennsylvania.....my cousin lives in rural Pennsylvania and dislikes Trump with a passion. She says she can't admit she's voting for Biden because it's really not safe to do so.........Secret/Hidden Biden voters?? :hehe:

I went to high school in rural Pennsylvania, and during that period, which was the early 90's, the place my family was at was very rural. Two hours outside of NYC by car and I was going to class with many teens whose own family hunted as a matter of sustenance. Bag a few deer (careful of elk... They sometimes suffer from diseases with terrible consequences for people at high enough to be worried about rates. ) and butcher then freeze the meat. Last that family through winter giving them one less expense at least. Drive through those back roads and even at that time then you would see many acres of pastures, farmlands and orchards. We lived in a condo community deal our first year but by our second my parents had purchased the house and property where my mother and grandmother still live. We noticed early the lack of traffic on the road in front of the house. As could be expected of a county which is about the same geographic size more or less of Brooklyn with at the time less than a third of that NYC Borough's population cars back then were a rarity. We lived twenty minutes down the road from the Pocono Raceway and it just so happened that my aunt and her husband ran a concessions/catering business and a big day was coming up once a year and staying with us to work the days NASCAR was holding an event. On those days I'd work the stand with them.

So I personally have always 100% agreed about what James Carville said about the state in its broad strokes:

"There's Philadelphia in the east, Pittsburgh in the West and it's Alabama in between."

Anecdote about my mom's community currently... Trump signs and T-shirts are all over, at least last time I visited before Covid. Thing is in the decades since our move the place has grown in population. And it is now a lot less stereotypically rural. It is certainly more diverse with a lot of minorities coming in from New York and New Jersey. Putting it in stark terms... No grocery store had Goya products in stock in 1990. Today they all do. That fact, the influx of non whites to areas that had been pretty firmly the traditional lands of a mix of Americans of Dutch-German and Polish backgrounds along with Scotch-Irish, was very much noticed by those whose roots ran deep. Let's just say each year the phone book had more and more names of Hispanic origin in county. And then there is the more ineffable stuff... There is no dependable job market of any note outside of elder care that shows any growth. And it is a vicious cycle. Because there is no long term job prospects the younger people who can move away, leaving retirees. People still hunt but the majority of farms or orchards has significantly decreased. Life is on so many levels different. It really isn't purely a rural area as judged by a lot of metrics. It has far more people and looks and feels more like a large sprawling suburb that happens to also have a handful of farms and the like left and some big patches of forest. It has that new American small town anonymity feel. It has lost much of what long time residents would call its rural/country feel, and what it has traded in is more akin to the soulless drab suburban sprawl, which nowadays includes a lot more of the social issues and pathologies than that community was acclimated to experiencing.

This in a pot swirled around, and happening over about 30 years or so... I kinda feel that while it is no excuse for Trump's success with certain areas and demographics, it is part of the explanation. Having lived there it's always fascinated me to see how its politics work out in general. A Union state with a lot of Confederate (An I could go on about how some of that was a contagion, but I won't.) cultural and social aspects with large urban pockets that balance it out while the suburbs are this seesaw of speculation as to their loyalties consistently. A microcosm of the country at large in many ways.

This use of the casual water sip on CNN kills me.

Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of Biden but this is absurd. This needs to be taken in context and even when out of context, Trump literally has 10 gaffes on a daily basis that are usually far worse.

This is a general feeling over here that one reason why people like Trump get into office in the US is because the Dems, meaning politicians and the supporters/voter, are their own worst enemies. They are so willing to score an own goal for whatever reason.

The biggest point is the racism. It is always the racism.

Us ending up with a Trump in office is so much more complicated than "the Left eats its own"

The real sexists are the midwestern white males who only voted for Bernie because they hated Hillary.
Voting against the other candidate is ridiculously stupid to begin with. Racist, sexist, religious reasons for doing so makes them a racist/sexist/zealous idiot. We have a lot of anti Trump votes last time and this go around and we will have a lot of anti Biden votes. It’s sad this is where we are at and it’s sad that people think we have to live with this over and over.

It is truly sad to be anti-authoritarian, anti-fascist.
