Black Panther: Wakanda Forever General Discussion and Speculation Thread

So what happens in early 2022, and she's still not vaccinated?

They have a movie waiting to be released in November 2022, which is just a year from now. I guess they could move up Marvels or Quantumania. But still.

Unless things change in 2 months...

COVID-19 and Your Health

She ain't getting back to where they are shooting the movie. And fairly certain Disney is not going to drop the money to move the shooting to the UK at the last minute.

Wright has become an embarrassment for Marvel. They should have dropped her long ago, when it became obvious that she is an anti-vax kook.

Yup. And the problem is that they can hardly drop her from BP2 now that shooting has been underway for several months.

I would say if they’re going to cast T’Challa, don’t have it be a recast of the main MCU version. It would just feel weird. Cast an actor to play a variant of T’Challa that escaped from a completely destroyed parallel universe, or something like that. That way, you can have someone else in that role carrying on Chadwick Boseman’s legacy without having to explain why he looks different.

That’s more complicated than it ever needs to be. There doesn’t need to be any kind of explanation as to why he looks different if they had gotten a different actor.

I agree. The problem is people are still very emotional over what happened to Chadwick and therefore their emotions won’t accept a non explanation. But if Marvel is this hellbent on not recasting the sacred timeline T’Challa then I say go ahead with the variant route.

This person makes a pretty good point

Marvel Studios is in a tricky situation. If they are planning to pass the mantle onto Shuri then they can't recast her. The passing of the torch only works if it's someone we already know. It won't work with a new actress who never shared the screen with Chadwick. I guess they could rewrite the script again and make Nakia the new Black Panther but that would mean canning pretty much everything they've shot already. Nobody wanted to hear it at the time but they really should have just recast T'Challa.

It’s becoming more obvious by the day that the decision to not recast T’Challa was a panicky and emotional knee jerk reaction rather than a calculated one. Now they’ve got the potential new lead of the franchise possibly cracking from pressure and making a fool of herself. All of this could’ve been avoided. It really could have.

Re-blace her in mid shoot. This they shant do and can’t do. Either vaccine her now or cut her salary

She should really overthink her attitude and get those two shots. Otherwise, no studio wants to work with her again.
Then she could do movies with Gina Carano and Emilio Estevez

I agree.

I feel they went with the rationale that Shuri was the "obvious" choice since it happened in the comics , without really taking into account the practicality in the context of the film universe ,among other things.

But they wanted to get the sequel rolling without truly taking time to think things through and examining other potential characters, even newly created characters , to take the mantle.

I still think recasting was the best option, and that eventually, they will just recast T'Challa when they're further away from Boseman's loss, and when their thinking is clearer.

It is stunning to me how much of a train wreck this film has become. The tragic loss of Chadwick obviously could not be helped. But all the decision making since is directly on the studio and Ryan.

What makes this more infuriating is that if Chadwick lived to film this sequel, Wrights behavior would’ve been putting him at risk since having cancer made him immunocompromised.

The comments made by both Moore and Alonso the last week or so give me bad feelings of where they intend to take the MCU. They seem to have forgotten why the MCU became such a success in the first place and think it now needs to follow the current fad cultural/political zeitgeist.

Basically, Disney will find a way to milk the character outside of the “616” MCU version of the character because there’s too much money being left on the table. Plus, don’t be surprised if that changes once Coogler isn’t as heavily involved.

Did you not watch the first Black Panther? Because it's a super political film. Woke if you will.

Seems Shuri was going to be the new Black Panther but because of her anti-vaxx stance, the movie is going to be retooled:
