Black Panther: Wakanda Forever General Discussion and Speculation Thread

I think this is a similar sentiment that is shared, in a twisted way, with those that wanted the role to be recast. Because it was important to have "black male role models". But.. that was never the intention of Black Panther, and Boseman understood that. It was about what it meant to be black, black culture, and the black men and women that came before. The first movie was praised for its strong black women, Okoye became a fan favorite, the Dora Milaje, the villain, all of it. The women of Black Panther, of Wakanda, were front and center in Black Panther. I remember Boseman pointing that out and highlighting that on the press tour too. So yes, Black Panther will probably be passed down to a woman in this movie, but why can't black kids, regardless of gender, feel that a strong black superhero is someone to look up to? Even if they are a woman. Thank god for the strong women I looked up to as a kid that helped raise me. I might be miswording the point I am trying to make here, but women being highlighted here is not because Boseman has passed, they were shining from the beginning. And young boys & girls can look up to them just as much as T'Challa.
They've got a bit of a dearth of many black, male characters without Boseman. Currently, they only have Mackie and Cheadle as black, male superheroes leading their own series/films now with SLJ, Duke, Majors and Ejiofor being the only other starring or recurring black, male characters. While having strong women on film/TV is necessary, I do think they may have made BP2 and the world of Wakanda maybe a little too female as there's not much of a balance there anymore.

That was an INCREDIBLE trailer. I was so nervous how they were going to handle Chadwick’s passing but that trailer was a huge confidence boost that they’re going to do it right. It’s great to see so many incredible black female characters leading a huge movie like this. And Namor and the Atlanteans looks amazing. So hyped to see them.

I thought it was a great 1st trailer. I am still not sold on going this route. I hope this movie is great. But what is clear to me is...this will be a hard watch. Frigging teaser made me nearly emotional. I can only imagine the movie being 100 times more emotional

What Black Panther 2's Chadwick Boseman Tribute Says In Wakandan

Thanks to the Wakandan alphabet, based on the ancient Nsibidi language system, but updated in design by production designer Hannah Beachler specifically for Black Panther, we now know what the mural tribute to Chadwick Boseman says. Around the painting of King T'Challa, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's Boseman tribute reads:

"The king lives and the panther... forever in us..."

So, not to come across as pervy or anything, but I did a comparison between the two possible candidates’ general physiques in different photos with the mystery Black Panther. No offense to Leticia, but her frame is way too skinny to be someone with a form like that from wearing that suit. It much more closely compares to Lupita and her general frame. Also, I’ve never seen Leticia do any kind of fight scene or anything physically demanding in any clips that I’ve seen. But, Lupita is quite capable of doing that kind of stuff.

Honestly, that would be quite fitting for her character. Someone who, in the first film, was reticent to stay in Wakanda, now not only decides to remain in her birthplace, but takes on the mantle of her deceased lover as a sign of duty and respect. And it totally fits with this scene from the end of the first film:

Her saying, “…it was my duty to fight for what I love.” T’Challa asking her to stay and that he might have some other role in Wakanda for her to be able to still achieve what she wants to do. Also, if I’m not mistaken, those two actors probably had the closest friendship in real life. What better way to honor her friend than by taking on the role, narratively and in real life, that he used to inspire so many people.

Also, in a weird way, it’s kind of the good version of what happened in that “What-If” episode. Only, instead of a raging male tyrant, it’s a benevolent female leader. And Nakia is kind of the good version of what Killmonger was in the first movie. Another good parallel.

It all lines up too perfectly.

That was a fantastic trailer. I may have even shed a tear a little. "No Woman No Cry" blending into what I believe was "Alright" was a killer selection. And damn that delivery from Angela Bassett. Thinking she may have a great performance in store for us. And the cinematography looked BEAUTIFUL. Feels like Marvel Studios has been giving the directors more leeway on bringing a distinct visual to their films lately.

Gonna miss Chadwick but under Coogler, I feel like a lot of folks are gonna be stepping up.

Can't wait.

I hope we'll get the romance between Ayo (Florence Kasumba) and Aneka (Michaela Coel)

Either that's Shuri in the suit or Nakia at the end. Really hoping it's the latter....
If it's Nakia I'd be quite pleased; Shuri's my last pick but if they can make it make sense then tentative sure.
I hope it's Nakia too. While there's no precedent for it in the comics, I think Lupita is the better actress to lead the franchise, and Nakia as a character is both the most fitting to be the Panther based on her personality and skills, as well as the character that would have the least to do in a movie without t'Challa if not given new purpose.

That's what I thought. If you still have a daughter, you haven't lost your entire family.

Maybe we're led to believe Shuri dies and then she shows up as Black Panther in the third act?
(I would've preferred Nakia or Okoye as the new Panther, but oh well we got what we got).

when Queen Ramonda said that she was without her family, I would assume that Shuri is more "missing" than dead.
I could see it be something like Shuri gets taken captive by the Atlanteans, Ramonda has seemingly lost everything and then with no suitable members of the royal family left Nakia steps up as the new Black Panther to go rescue Shuri and end the conflict. The first movie opened with a mission by t'Challa to rescue Nakia, so it might make a good parallel for her to become the rescuing Black Panther.

She's also the first character we see in the trailer which might be significant. It would make sense for her to be the one to bookend the trailer imo.

I agree. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I would much prefer Lupita take over the mantle of the Black Panther than Letitia. She’s the better and bigger actress. Shuri already has a role, she’s the tech genius. Nakia was her own character but a lot of it was in connection with T’Challa’s character. It would be a shame to waste her now that T’Challa is gone and to not utilise her in a big way in the future. Plus, I’m wondering how the cast and crew is feeling about Letitia atm when her antivax beliefs were allegedly causing issues on set.

I can’t stop watching that trailer though. So good. And the Atlanteans and Namor look so great. Like damn, they really did a great job with them. Really happy with the Aztec influences on their culture.

If this movie goes decent, I can see this one will have a good run for the Academy Awards (at least in the tech categories).

Honestly, if this movie gets the acclaim the first one did, Coogler should get Oscar consideration. Given the situation he was in entering this project and all its various setbacks, if he pulls this off like the first movie then I think an argument can and should be made he needs recognized for his work as director

That trailer is both a gut punch, and pure elation, felt part heart breaking funeral (rip Boseman), then part celebration of birth (seeing baby Namor's little wings and Tenoch emerge from the ocean, "Aztlántis" rising straight uplifting for me) then a reaffirming and rebirth for Wakanda and BP identity. That the two events coincide in one film, leading to an epic clash (I both dread yet need to see) between the two.
Besides how fantastic it all looks, all makes for one overwhelming emotional ride.

Love and Thunder really left a bad taste in my mouth and I was getting tired of all the same dumb jokes in these movies and shows (She-Hulk looks bad).

This trailer is just what I needed to make me look forward to a Marvel property again.

What a trailer! I had very little interest in the movie but that trailer just had me the whole time. Shouldn't have doubted Ryan. The cinematography is to die especially the lighting and the colours.

One for the history books as far as CBM trailers are concerned.

I need Tems’ version of “No Woman No Cry” on Apple Music immediately.

Is there a new version of “Alright” as well somewhere? I need the version from this trailer on my playlist and the Kendrick version sounds nothing like it lol.

Anyway, yeah… this trailer blew me away. I can’t stop watching it and getting emotional. Everything looks amazing. Chadwick’s absence will be felt for sure, not only in this film but in many films (both Marvel and otherwise) for years to come. But it really looks like they have made an amazing tribute to him here while also driving the story of Wakanda forward.

Also, I’ve seen about 10 seconds of Namor and I already like him better than WB’s version of Aquaman. The shots in this trailer make Aquaman look like a Saturday morning cartoon.
