The Marvels: News and General Discussion thread

Ms. Marvel is probably one of the worst Marvel Disney+ shows but Iman did a great job so I’m happy to see her likely have a scene stealing presence.
She was perfectly cast for me, and bringing the Kamala energy full force here. It was obvious she’d be right as the overexcited superfan (real life superfan too) from the show and it’s great/funny to see her finally reacting to seeing Carol and Fury etc. I want more than 2 seconds of Carol in Kamala’s Carol shrine room.

Curious why you guys think it's the worst.

I'd say it had some of the worst villains of any of the shows (tied with the Flagsmashers and She-Hulk's incels)
but Kamala and her family are so dam adorable I forgive many of its shortcomings

Ms Marvel is extremely frustrating. I love the characters and their interaction soooo much, but it is surrounded with such a sub par story.

Yes, which is weird because the idea of having a tv show is that you can have a richer storyline that doesn't fit in a 2-hour movie.

Problem being, 6 episodes may not be enough.

Kind of hoping Ben Mendelson and Emilia Clarke have a small cameo at the end of the film.
I’ll be shocked if Ben isn’t in there somewhere honestly. Emilia idk.

The trailer makes the movie look cheap - cheap effects, cheap sets, cheap laughs, just cheap all around. Got the vibe Marvel is still trying to forcefully borrow from Ragnarok in certain respects too.

Unfortunately not into this. Chances were pretty grim to begin with, but at least girls can get their "girl power" Marvel MCU movie - that's ultimately an objective here. Wonder what the larger tie-in here is aside from refreshing everyone with these characters for Secret Wars.

Well hopefully this should sell much better than Charlie's Angels and Birds of Prey.

I'd like to see a X-Women movie starring Storm, Psylocke, Jean and Rogue in the not so distant future.

I stopped watching after the 3rd episode when it was revealed there was yet another super secret society out there this whole time. I know that’s a trope in the comics, but I had my fill of it from the MCU.

When a movie is all males, do you call it a “boy power” movie?

I loved it as a Wonder Years type show, but the superhero elements were not good. Really poor villains, not great action, and the early episode effects were really bad. It also was very uneven and felt like 2 shows once they take the show to visit the Grandma. I liked Kamala in the show though, and I love her interactions with the others in the trailer. So she will be a major plus here. I just wish the superheroing in her own show was better

I'm really curious to see how this all ties into the greater cosmic side of the MCU and what it means going forward. I wasn't even considering the possibilities of Ben Mendelsohn or Emilia Clarke showing up, but I definitely hope it connects into Secret Invasion in some significant way as far as The Skrulls go.

Goose being in this is a nice surprise too lol.

Ms. Marvel was by far the most enjoyable D+ show for me, and this trailer was nothing but fun and put a huge smile on my face. Watched it quite a few times already. Definitely looking forward to this, though I still hope the rumors of it being a musical are false.
