'The Last of Us' HBO Series

I'd say they reorganize it a bit to show off more of Abby's backstory prior to that moment, introducing her to make it less jarring when the perspective shift. Plus it would add dramatic tension for the audience to have information the main characters don't, and letting people know how much peril the leads are in

then season 3 would be split equally between Ellie and Abby's stories post-incident

Looking at the edited 'movie versions' of TLOU2 on yt, yes, you could easily fit the entire story into >10 hours. For a 10 episode season you could do Wyoming in 2 episodes, Seattle in 6, and Santa Barbara in 2. It's not that crazy really.

Ending season 2 with that moment would require massive changes to the structure, as it's right near the start and the inciting incident of the story.

That could work...
But it might be a risk to make Season 3 almost entirely an Abby season.
Actually that is what I was thinking season three would be. The Abby season. WLF vs Sarafites, Introducing Liv. Remember this is more of a drama. We also want to try to get the audience to like Abby.:rolleyes::p:oops:

Oh I forgot, doesn't Nico Parker look so much like her mum? I didn't know who the lass was ahead of time but she was unmistakably a little Thandiwe.
Nico was also considered for Elle. She would have had an interesting take on the character.

Unpopular opinion perhaps but I reckon you could do Pt. 2 in a single season. It's a longer game, sure, but an awful lot of that is gameplay. A huge chunk of the game takes place over just 3 days. Do those over 6 episodes (to account for different perspectives) and you have a couple each side for an opening and the final act. Pretty do-able. A moot point of course as it seems like it will be more than one.

If Pt. 2 is done in two seasons, I wonder where it will be split. I don't see an obvious cut-off point.
It is doable, but you have to assume that there'll be a lot of elements of the second game that aren't massively fleshed out that will be getting entire hours dedicated to them. For instance you have to imagine there will be an entire episode about Lev's backstory, I could see one actually following Tommy, stuff like that.

I do hope they make the Seraphites a bit more... grounded? Not that they're super silly but I didn't like how close to Mad Max territory their whole vibe got. Felt a little out of place.

I also wonder how well some of the beautiful non-linearity of Ellie's story will work if stretched over two seasons - especially when even in the game for as good as Abby's story is I was definitely dying to get back to Ellie for a good chunk of it, if only because I don't give a **** about any of her supporting characters except for Lev. But, I have total faith in Mazin's ability to improve on the already excellent source material.

For me the technique of “the audience to have information the main characters don't” often adds tension effectively. The imagination is a crazy thing!

Yes, very clear similarity. Now that you mention it I’ll rewatch episode 1 to see her again and see if that moment has more impact on me this time (was hard for it to compete with the game on that one knowing ahead of time, but still very well done). Also love rewatching the intro - have seen that a fair few times, such an awesome way to kick off the show and set the quality bar from the off.

I hope season 2 and 3 gives us more tracking shots, some of the best moments in the second game are those high intensity scenes where sh** hits the fan and the camera tracks through everything without cutting.

There is one particular sequence near the end of the second game that would make for a great, long oner in season three:

Abby and Lev escaping the island on horseback and all of the carnage and chaos they encounter until they escape by the skin of their teeth on the boat. I dare them to do that all in one, continuous shot. Would make for great television.

They can also do the Jesse/Ellie car escape in the next season.

Oooh, I didn’t even think about that one! That’s a really good call! Yeah, they definitely need to include that!

I literally cannot wait to see how they do both of those moments. But I am also really looking forward to
The Rat King and Tommy vs Abby from the latters perspective
.

Months ago there was a reddit post from a guy who said he worked in the Vancouver film industry. Said he heard they'd start filming in Calgary/Canmore (Jackson) in Fall 2023 before moving production to Vancouver in December.

Can't wait to see The Rat King but I'm guessing he won't show up until season three. That's if they split the game into two seasons.

Last of us 2 spoilers:
I would expect them to film in Canmore during winter and then in Vancouver after snow has melted. Or maybe they start with the flashbacks.

'Last of Us' Season 2 Was Preparing to Audition Actors With Game Scene - Variety
Preparations for casting for the second season of the smash hit HBO series had been underway until earlier this week when it was put on hold, according to an individual with knowledge of the production.

Prior to that, however, multiple sources say that the casting team was asking actors to read sides taken directly from “The Last of Us Part II,” the video game on which the second season will be based, due to the fact that there are no scripts for Season 2 at this time. The hope is for the season to begin shooting in early 2024 in Vancouver

The lack of Season 2 scripts is by no means surprising, as series co-creator and showrunner Craig Mazin has been spotted on the picket line with his fellow Writers Guild of America (WGA) members in recent days. He is not currently doing any writing or producing work (including being involved in casting) on Season 2, in keeping with WGA strike guidelines. Likewise, Neil Druckmann, who co-created the series and served as writer and creative director on the games, is not currently working on Season 2 of the show in any capacity.
