The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread

That article doesn’t even mention that he and David are BOTH in Lady in the Lake lol.

The multiple personality guy from Identity?

If you were to ask random people if they believed he was a farmer from Kansas, they'd say yes. I don't really see an issue with his casting even if he doesn't traditionally look like Pa Kent.

To me, he comes off more like an enforcer or a henchman or even a villain such as Bane or Solomon Grundy. I picture this Pa Kent getting down and taking names which is far from how he's usually depicted. Calling it right now - Pa Kent is going to be in a lot more action scenes than people are used to.

You're making a lot of weird assumptions out of an actor's physical appearance. None of it says he can't play a warm and caring father?

He can also be a warm and caring father. But that doesn't negate first impression being Irish or Italian mobster or ex-cop type vibe more than farmer that for the most part hasn't really been known to hold his own. There's some reason why Gunn went way off field than the usual depiction. My guess, he'll be a lot more active. One doesn't negate the other.

I looked through his whole filmography and found, sadly, that I don't know him from anything I've seen recently. I hope casting a lower-profile name doesn't mean the character isn't featured much... in a film about Superman contemplating his human heritage, Jon Kent should be front and center.

That being said, I'm thrilled Jonathan is confirmed. I haven't read any plot leaks so I was starting to doubt he was in the film.

Sure, but that's just speculation on your end so far. Nothing is pointing towards that other than your interpretation purely because of how he looks.

As said, nothing can change my mind. I’d have almost the same kind of reaction as if I saw Robert DeNiro cast as Pa Kent. Plenty of farmers look like him too. Doesn’t mean that’s the first image that comes to mind.

criticize just for the sake of criticizing

He's a great actor. Was on my shortlist for Kingpin before Vincent signed on.
I could have seen D'onofrio as Pa Kent.
Come to think of it, he already played a farmer who "took in" an extra-terrestrial in MIB... :funny:

But seriously, this guy is very versatile and could have worked without a problem.
He's one of those actors I'd like to see in a Batman movie at some point (and I think he alluded to the fact that he'd like a role like that).

I have the same Meh reaction to this as most of the rest of the cast but I do like how wildly unlike any other Jonathan Kent he is right off the best visually. Seen this actor in a million things but have memory of him.

So everyone has to fall in like and see him as the “classic” Pa Kent even when it’s an obvious departure? Understood.

He might be good, but one thing most would say - he doesn’t visually resemble Pa Kent as he has been depicted since day one unless the Mandela effect is hitting me hard and I don’t know it lol.

U r saying he will be involved in action scenes......

I really like Pruitt as an actor. He's been one of the better characters actors of the last couple of decades.

With that said, I really do not like this choice for Pa Kent. I hope I am proven wrong but this is the first casting choice I've been disappointed in.

I mean, Kurt Russell would have been the perfect casting and would have given this film some needed star power.
