Xbox Xbox Series X Thread

Nice to have a date!

I'm pretty much locked into Sony and the PS5 at this point. But, I'm willing to give MS/Xbox one last chance to impress me. If nothing else, for future consideration several years down the road.

Hope they don't disappoint. This show could very well determine their success and future for next-gen. Especially after it feels like they "sacrificed" the last 3-5 years of the Xbox One for this moment. It better be worth it.

Looking very forward to it!

Apparently MS is holding back a few reveals/surprises for their August event (or later in the year).

Well ****. More waiting for events

I don't expect MS to show everything. However, I hope they don't hold too much back. They are NOT in a position of strength to play it too safe.

After Sony’s announcement last month, Microsoft really has a lot of ground to cover. They haven’t announced a single game that has me willing for fork over $400+ for a new console.

Oh damn. They were the ones I was really hoping for something good from.

yeah. from what I've heard, they're the ones working on the rumored Perfect Dark reboot. And it's going to be a 3rd person stealth-action game like Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid.

If that's what it is, and not a FPS like I believe the original Perfect Dark was, then count me as interested. So, I hope they show this off in 2 weeks, but I guess they do have to save some stuff for later. Just that MS can't afford to play it too safe now.

Fable Reboot from Playground Games
3rd Person stealth Perfect Dark reboot from Initiative
AAA RPG from Obsidian
AAA RPG from IneXile
Everwild from Rare
Forza Motorsport 8
Killer Instinct 2
Some kind of Mech Assault or Mech Warrior game
MS buys WB studios

Can you imagine if ALL that comes to pass?? I better not get too excited or hopeful lest I get disappointed again. C'mon MS!! Give us those mic drop, industry shaking moments!!

Ah. The Initiative sounded like the best talent and I would have rather have them on a game more my type like a mythology or adventure style game (alumni from Tomb Raider/Red Dead/God of War). Otherwise I would be totally happy with the above.

The WB thing seems very ambitious, and even if it went ahead it might not mean they get the licenses. I think Microsoft might look for a cheaper deal if they get all those studios without the IPs. That means they wouldn't really need to buy any more studios ever again, plus stuff like Mortal Kombat would still transfer over. Of course it would be even better if they could come out with some sort of perpetual licensing deal albeit with conditions (like Sony and Fox had with Marvel for films).

But even forgetting any WB deal, I would be very happy to get everything else on that list. I'll settle though for Halo, Fable & Hellblade looking great, with at least 2 major new games revealed even if they are coming out a bit later.

It's possible Initiative is working on something entirely else. But it's their name I keep hearing with the Perfect Dark reboot.

I'd imagine if MS did buy out WB Game studios, while they wouldn't own WB properties like DC, HP, and LOTR outright, they would try to work out some kind of exclusive licensing deals for those characters. It would be a huge missed opportunity, imo.

Sony and Insomniac don't own the Spider-Man ip outright, though Sony still owns movie rights I guess. But they got an exclusive Spider-Man game for PS. So, I think MS could do the same, especially if they owned the studios like Rocksteady.

And, it would be a huge missed opportunity if they did buy WB studios, but still let future games be multiplat, like Minecraft. Xbox needs all the exclusives it can get.

Fable reboot is probably what excites me the most. As well as Obsidian's AAA RPG, which I've heard some say will be like Skyrim. I hope it's fantasy based, cuz I do like that setting, too.

With Fable, Obsidian AAA RPG and Outworlds, and InXile Wasteland and their AAA RPG, Xbox could become a Western RPG powerhouse!

Aside from Fable, I think MS needs to reveal at least 2-3 brand new AAA looking ips at the July show. Even if they save stuff for later, I don't think they can just get by with Fable being the only big "new" thing shown.

The talent at The Initiative looks so good that I want them to myself for my own favourite genres and I still want Perfect Dark but I'd rather someone else focused on that.

I was so excited for what they showed for Fable Legends 7 or so years ago. Who knows how good a modern Fable could look. Fable 3 is 10 years old!

If Obsidian's RPG is a fantasy one I'll be celebrating. That's exactly what I want.

I love RPGs in general so that would be a huge deal to me if they really went for it on that front!

Yeah agreed. They need minimum 2 but preferably 3 or more brand new big games that we don't know about yet to be able to compete.

agree.

Hopefully by this time in 2 weeks we will be crying tears of joy instead of wallowing in a river of disappointment! Keep hope alive!! :super:

good.

hope this includes a certain WB...........
How Minecraft and Mojang taught Xbox how to buy studios

This is the source article. It makes me really optimistic that Microsoft is much better at integrating acquired companies now than they were in the past and retaining that X-factor that various studios bring.

This sounds like an awesome environment for the studios. They get to do what they would have wanted to do with no worries about paying their bills and staying afloat, with much more funding and no creative restrictions that you would get somewhere like EA.

nice! that does make me feel optimistic about the future of the studios. And I think that's one reason why people would rather MS acquire those WB studios instead of other companies like EA or Activision.

but, it's now time to start seeing the fruits of all the effort put into those studios. And that has to start in 2 weeks. It's nice to hear and read about this stuff, but now is the time to show it off.

Hopefully it’s a step up above what we’ve seen before in Halo campaigns.

Hopefully the story will be accessible to newcomers to the series, too.
