The Halloween Film Series Thread... - Part 4

I feel really sad for Laurie in H2018, she’s waited for Michael to escape all those years yet he’s not given her another thought. Not even convinced he recognises her when they meet. That’s one aspect I do kind of like.
Probably the main reason why 2018 destroys Halloween 2 for me. That’s a way more interesting and creepy idea than whatever crap they did in 1981.

H2 is a complete retcon from the original. Not just the sister thing. Loomis doesn’t even look down in shock. Instead he runs downstairs and is completely surprised that Michael’s body isn’t on the grass. Like..why?

Bad wigs and masks that clearly don’t line up with the original, which is a problem because it’s supposed to be the same night. Michael’s stuntman doesn’t look or move like the one from the first movie. That mask makes him look like a goofy ninja turtle. This is the beginning of them turning Michael Myers into Jason Vorhees. Laurie also comes off like a moron in this movie. I don’t care for a single new character unlike Alyson in 2018 (you get the sense that H2 is just a way to make a sleazy kill fest with new characters that won’t matter). The score is also overrated. All they did was remake the themes with corny 80’s synths.

Nothing in HII puts it on par with the original. As someone who has watched HII upwards of 100 times, it's not that great. It is a good sequel, but that's only because Carpenter & others had their hands in it. Were none of them to be involved, HII would've been just about as bad, if not worse, than Resurrection was since Rosenthal was allowed to do his own thing there & it was a massive disaster.

Hell, even with Carpenter being attached to HII, that's how we got the brother/sister angle. And that severely diluted Michael's character. So no, no, no. HII is not on par with the original in any way, shape or form.

Just compared the Shape in the two movies, for instance. He moved in an agile way in the original, very fluid & natural. Dick Warlock in HII just thought it was a good idea to move as slow as humanly possible & to utilize a stiff, non-menacing walk. Michael was just a shell by HII that lost much of his flavor because of poor story choices & ultimately a lackluster performance.

Disgaree, HII still the best sequel imo. The score is F’n great too.

But hey each to their own, I’m just not a fan of let’s praise the new one by ****ting on the old one.

I still think H4 had the worst Michael. All the other Michaels besides the original and 2018's had something working against them but at least had one decent thing about them. They either had an awful mask, or moved too stiffly.

H5, Resurrection, and at times H20 had bad masks but the actors playing Michael were not totally robotic and brought some vitality to the role in terms of body language and movement. HII Michael had a good mask but he moved very stiffly. H6 Michael mask wasn't great but wasn't totally awful either. Whereas H4 Michael moved as stiff as a board, had a terrible mask, and he even had that ridiculous looking padding on, too. There was literally nothing good about the H4 Michael, IMO.

I'm not counting Rob Zombie's Michael here, because a bad mask and stiff body language cannot compete with a white trash, bearded hobo looking, talking, white horse with his mommy hallucinating Myers. That is in a league of its own in terms of bad.

To be fair, a lot of what Wilbur did in H6 was reshot & I'm kind of glad for it. Just for me, he wasn't ever an effective Michael Myers. Same goes for Don Shanks in H5. Great performer but even if the movie had been better, I don't think he'd have done a remarkable job in the role.

Obviously Nick Castle is the instant favorite but aside from him Tyler Mane & James Jude Courtney are the only individuals I can say made it interesting to watch Michael. Brad Loree wasn't bad in Resurrection but...it's Resurrection, so that says it all.

It’s almost funny how many “what-ifs” we have in this franchise.

I’m not a fan of his films or ideas but I do kind of like Rob Zombie as a person. Just seems so chill, it’s kind of weird those awful ideas come from this guy.

I'm curious what that means.
Maybe the evil of Michael Myers’ legacy will now live on forever. A boogeyman for the ages even if he dies. How? The media’s reaction to the events of that night. Also, Alyson could end up losing herself in a way.

1. Halloween 5

It's debatable which is worse - Halloween 5 or Halloween Resurrection. But Resurrection is such a cheaply made and pointless film that I definitely view it as the worst. At least the other sequels tried to do some interesting things and had some atmosphere to them.
