2022 Box Office - Top 10 movies

That would be a great holiday weekend hold for Maverick if so.

It would put it just about where I thought it would be. It gets a little easier to predict as you move further away from the show's opening.

I haven't read the rest of the thread, and I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but Top Gun isn't on the list. :D

Good for Minions. That movie looked hilarious based on the previews.

Insane that Fantastic Beasts didn't even break $100 mil stateside. Has any franchise ever been mishandled this badly?

crazy year overall

Pixar almost flopping and being well below Minions
Friggin' Top Gun in the top spot

who'da thunk

I bet most didn’t predict that Elvis would outgross Lightyear at the beginning of the year.

On a smaller scale, the Divergent and X-Men prequel series went down in flames by their last films which put the kabosh on the whole series.

Idk about that
That's an impressive total and I dont think Avatar's gunna hit the same numbers as the first
and even if it does, I doubt Avatar pulls it off in 2022, probably won't pass it till 2023 (though I guess it still counts as a 2022 movie)

Will anything "top" Top Gun this year as far as gross?
Avatar 2 and Wakanda Forever are the only ones that have a shot. All depends on how well they're received once they actually hit.

Also, you've got to give huge props to Sandra Bullock for driving the only original film to cross $100 mil domestic so far this year. I feel like The Lost City doesn't get enough talk.

Domestically it will be a really tough challenge for any movie. Worldwide it might be easier for at least Avatar 2, considering Top Gun's international numbers aren't near as impressive as the domestic numbers (it's still not even in top 50 on the all-time international chart according to The Numbers) Not sure about Black Panther 2 considering the first one made less money internationally than domestically (and less than Top Gun: Maverick), and perhaps won't be released in China where the first one made over $100 million.

On the other hand it's hard to say what kind of impact Chadwick Boseman's death will have. It sure gives the movie an emotional edge that could boost it's success.

Another thing to consider about Avatar 2 is that prices for tickets in general has gone up since 2009. In theory Avatar 2 could sell fewer tickets than the first movie and still make more money. Adjusted for inflation the first Avatar has grossed over $900 million

My word...what would Jim Cameron do if he's beaten out by a popcorn movie about jets?
