Arnold Is Back for Terminator 5

I also hope this reboot goes back to the hard 80's style violence. I don't want an explosion fest set in a PG-13 film.

Hard R. Hard violence. Brutal kills.

if this is a reboot, I'd rather not have Arnold back as the Terminator.

it would kind of defeat the purpose of a reboot.......

Or you know, a good plot, good writing, and terminators. Plus, time travel (a staple of the series) goes a long way.

If you think about the terminators in Salvation (i.e. the ones we know, so not the T-600's), don't show up till the very end for... 5-10 minutes?

I'm still not sold that the terminator franchise can exist outside of arnold? It is his defining role. You say the word "terminator" you only think of the austrian cigar aficionado.

To me it almost looses the relevance to even use the "terminator" name if arnold is not attached to it. Might as well think of a good story and tag it to a new brand or another franchise?

I hear what you're saying, but to be fair, if all we have is Salvation (a subpar film, which barely featured terminators), then it's still a very open question. I mean, the TV show did okay, and it was entirely devoid of Arnold.

Plus, the Terminator license, has already paid Harlan Ellison, so they might as well keep it, as long as it involves time traveling robots.

Not to mention Terminator 3, which had Arnold, and was terrible.

Gone are the days of practical effects, so I'm expecting this to be CGI overload.

Well if its a reboot, than I'd suggest Nikita's Lyndsy Fonseca as Sarah Connor for 2015. She could play the character pre -Terminator arrival and the bad a** she becomes later. Don't know who could play Kyle Reece though.

I think it can. People said the same about other franchises in the past. And I do agree Terminator/Arnold are intertwined, but not as much as to future generations. Most see Arnold today as that old Governor guy that used to be in action films. He does not have the draw/icnonicness anymore.

TS failed not because of "Arnoldness" it failed because of like Thunder said above, bad story, directing and everything else. T3 was coming off of one of the most loved/very high grossing films at the time. So it brought in more. Arnold's newest film hardly brought in anything.

I think it you bring Terminator to the new generation as Nolan did with Batman, or Sam did with Spidey ect, you will be able to do well as long as it's a well made film. Because there is much more to Terminator then Arnold.

Salvation had no charismatic characters, that was the problem. No one stood out. Everybody was all angsty, no humor, just meh. CG Arnold circa 1980s was probably the best thing about it.

I guess we'll see? I just don't think there is as much interest past the fanboy community in the other aspects of the terminator mythology aside from arnold.

Sarah connor, john connor that's all fine and well but it's not who people are looking to follow necessarily.

I really think people just want a decent story, with decent action, that includes some staple elements.

Really, the time travel aspect (the lightning storm, emerging naked) and Skynet is as well known as the Arnold Terminator.

Salvation tried to shoehorn Arnold in, it didn't help.

The fanboy community is a shrinking one of that series. And there was much more we loved then just Arnold. I think you are very wrong on this. Many wanted to see a full blown out future war for a long time, Arnold or no. As with anything in Hollywood or film, audiences and fans want a well made film, with the core themes/story intact. I think the power of Terminator helped make Arnold more so. I think it is a powerful universe that goes beyond one person. As long as someone else can tell a good tale with it, we should be good, and can bring a whole new generation what we loved about Terminator.

Arnold is pushing 70 I cant see him in a new trilogy.if its a true reboot go with the rock as the terminator

If they're going for a full on reboot Ala Batman Begins and Casino Royale , then this is the cast I would have

Terminator: Dwanye Johnson
Kyle Reese: Jeremy Renner
Sarah Connor: Lyndsy Fonseca
Lt Traxler : Viola Davis
Dr Silberman : Jk Simmons
Miles Dyson : Don Chedle

No to The Rock.

The overly muscular body builder is just more of a relic from the 80's. I'd rather them be muscular but not overly. My friend suggested Chris Hemsworth, for a moment, I kinda said "Wait no." But then when I started to think about it, I actually kinda liked the idea, especially the build, and really he does have a stern cold face and icy stare. But of course it would not probably be him, but something in that vein is what I'm thinking. Big but not laughable big, in Pain and Gain you can tell that The Rock is juicing now, he's just insanely big, and I don't want that.

That and people have been gunning for him since 2001.

I for one do not want to see a new full on reboot starting with all new versions of Sarah Connor etc, I prefer the direction Salvation was going with movies set in the apocalyptic future but include time travel to other eras.

I wanted a down and dirty future war movie like the flashforwards in the Cameron movies.

Yup.

But I'm still interested enough after the lastest news.

I think it would be a waste of Rock's talents unless the plan is to humanize him or show him as a soldier before he's made into a cyborg.

No cyborg ****. We got that same stuff in Salvation.

Human. Machine. Nothing in between.

I wouldn't really mind a cyborg resistance fighter, since, that would even the playing field a little.

He probably means the hybrid Marcus Wright was.

With this reboot, I don't even expect a new Sarah Connor, Kyle, or John. I think it'll be completely new, with a new cast of characters.
