Look at this!!!

You've made a Sandman film. :) :) :) :)
Wesley Dodds, Sandy Hawkins and Dian Belmont.

When I used these characters over in the other thread, I thought they were very obscure.
But you Frodo, you know every corner of DC :word:

I'm surprised, did RKO exist in 1994? :O

Good cast!
Danny Elfman is also a must-have for the music!!

I doubt Robert Redford would direct something like this in the 90s. Still interesting :)
Do you think he'll play a small role in the film too?

I'm glad you like it Airwings . :D.
I had to do a bit of research on the original Sandman comics to find out about his supporting cast and some of his rogues.

I gotta say, I forgot that RKO was the studio I used.:funny:
The studio went under in the late 1950s, but I guess in this universe ,the studio still existed :funny:.

I used Robert Redford as director since I liked his look and his directing on Quiz Show.
I could also see Redford playing a role in the film.
I imagine the film taking place in the 1940s so it would be a retro sort of project .

Danny Elfman would definitely be a must for the music.:word:

Sandman is more awesome than people realize. He's a hidden gemstone in DC :)
Have you heard about the new Sandman series, by the way? It seems to be about another Sandman, from DC/Vertigo.

What an interesting idea!
I wonder what kind of films would the old studio do in the 60s/70s/80s?. Small productions or blockbusters?
In what ways will Hollywood be different, when they're still in the business?
It could be an alternative universe to explore. Like Marvel's "What if" series. The only difference would be that this world isn't any adventure fiction, but based off reality.
Let's go wild! RKO could own all the other studios today.
Why not add a fantastical element as well? The two of us are American directors who have done successful films in many genres. Our careers go as far back as the Golden Age of Hollywood (1930s), and we're still active today.

I wonder what kind of role that will suit Redford in your Sandman. Do you have any suggestions?

I'd be interesting to see what RKO would have done from the 1960s through the 1990s.
Imagine if they ended up with films like Easy Rider and Midnight Cowboy in the 60s, films like The Conversation and Dirty Harry in the 70s, and blockbusters like Terminator or Predator in the 1980s!:yay:

It would certainly be interesting to see if they would have stayed in the old Hollywood, Big budget, studio system model of the 20s through the 60s or whether or not they would venture towards the younger filmmakers like Coppola, Scorsese, Donner, or Lucas.

Imagine Star Wars actually being an RKO 1970s film, making yet another connection to the old style film serials.:wow:
Maybe in another universe that actually happened:cwink:.

In terms of Redford and Sandman, I'm not sure who he could fit in as in terms of characters from the comics, though he could have played a hero or a villain pretty well.

BATMAN SEASON 4 (1970-1971)
batman%2Blogo.JPG

Season 4 alternate history:
In the aftermath of ABC's cancelation of Batman in 1968, CBS offers to pick up the show for a proposed 4th season , but only as long as the sets remained in tact. Unfortunatley , with the sets destroyed CBS withdraws the option of renewing the once popular series. However, all hope is not lost , and when one door shuts another door opens.

In the Spring of 1969, NBC decides that it wants to renew Batman for a 4th season, though it will take time to reconstruct the sets and bring the actors from the original series back. At the same time however, the 60s are coming to a close and the network want the show to take a more serious approach akin to popular series such as Mission Impossible and The Mod Squad.
Yet they also want to retain the action and adventure of controversial series such as The Wild Wild West with its fight scenes .

Batman would return, but there would be several changes as the series debuts in the spring of 1970. The classic voice over, and the pow and biff elements, would be absent.
The format of the show would also switch to one hour akin to series like Hawaii 5-0.

Aunt Harriett would appear only occasionally as opposed to being a series regular. Batgirl would be absent , with plans to spin her off into her own series as was originally intended in the late 1960s.

Robin would now be in college living in a dormitory with roommates. This would set the stage for a potential Titans spin off series if season 4 was successful.

Bruce's playboy and bachelor life would be highlighted as much as him humanitarian side, while Wayne Enterprises would play a much bigger role in the series with the inclusion of Lucius Fox, Bruce Wayne's friend , who would know that he is really Batman.

In addition to Fox, The series would add Vicki Vale as a reported fascinated and infatuated with Batman, while at the same time, rejecting Bruce Wayne.
Two Batman skeptics would be added to the series in the form of Harvey Bullock , a detective who has a humorous rivalry with Chief O'Hara, and constant blow hard ,Mayor Hill, who, while constantly berating Gordon for relying on Batman, often finds himself in dire need of the Dynamic Duo's assistance.

While the most popular rogues such as Joker, Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman return, The series adds some newer rogues.

They included the long planned Two Face, The master of fear The Scarecrow, The Seductive but dangerous poison ivy, and two villians from The Caped Crusaders early adventures as Hugo Strange and The Mad Monk. The show also returns to some of the Batman comics noir elements by having Batman and Robin face mob threats such as Maroni and Rupert Thorne, while at the same time, uses Bondian globe trotting baddies such as Ra's Al Ghul and Talia Head.

Season four would also continue to feature several prominent celebrities in the roles of villains and would mark the return of Julie Newmar as Catwoman. Max von Sydow became the 4th actor to portray Mr.Freeze, and Gene Wilder replaced David Wayne as The Mad Hatter

Highlights of the season included the special two hour premiere showing DA Dent's descent into becoming the supervillain Two face, and a Batman episode highlighting Batman's confrontation with Joe Chill which garnered the series emmy nominations, including Adam West's emotional performance in the episode.

While attempting to stray away from the more controversial and hot button issues of the early 1970s, the show does reflect some of the sensibilities and tones of the coming decade, yet it still thrived to keep the adventure and escapism of the original series.

At the end of the triumphant 4th season , plans were made to develop a 5th season for 1971 and 1972 , a Titans spin off series , and a Batgirl series. The fourth season proved , that despite what critics may have felt in 1968, Batman truly could last forever.

It's fun to speculate.
Who knows what path RKO had gone.

As long as the studio was successful, it would have kept making films.
Upgrading their logo and their "logo fanfare" now and then :)

RKO Star Wars, that would have been something.
Did they also do the old Flash Gordon series? If so, I'm sure they would be behind the 1980 version too :)
After that, I'm not sure?
BTTF?, Matrix? Harry Potter? LOTR? Avatar?
You give great examples too :)
There's a chance for a them working with the directors of the New Hollywood movement in the 70s and late 60s.
DePalma, Scorsese, Coppola, Donner, Spielberg, Kubrick, Polanski, Altman, Pollack, Lumet, Friedkin, Woody Allen.... etc
Here's another thing. "What if" it was RKO, not Warner Bros, who had the rights to DC Comics heroes? :O
Better that our reality, or worse?

Redford is a more talented actor than he's given credit for.
A Hollywood legend in every possible way
Him acting in a CBM in his younger days is a dream come true for many of us.
If it had happened, people would have looked at superhero stuff in a different way today.
I think he would still be the right age for Wesley Dodds up until mid-70s.
He's more of a noble guy than a vigilante though. Steve Rogers is a character that is right up his alley. Many people think so. I've seen such 70s casting suggestions before.

Warner Bros. hires Steven Spielberg to direct Batman for a Summer 1989 release with Sam Hamm’s original script.

The director brings on writer Tom Stoppard for revisions, having just worked with him on
Empire of the Sun, along with the legendary John Williams to compose the film’s score.

Very cool Mondragon .:word:
I also have Blackman as Black canary waaay back in the beginning of this thread, and I have her as Black canary in a couple of Hammer Films DC products a few pages back.

I also have her as Mystique and Black Widow in some of my 1960s era Marvel castings:funny:.

I really dig Ty Hardin as Green Arrow!:D.
I'd never seen him look like that but , He's my number one pick for 60s Oliver Queen going forward.

Before I saw your pick, I had trouble finding an Oliver Queen I was satisfied with, so I went with Rod Taylor.

Thanks for bringing my attention to that older thread, since I'd love to check it out.:yay:.
I shocked that I missed it back in 2012.

LOL I can't believe that thread goes that far back.
And Honor Blackman being retrofancast over and over is not surprising, heck she was likley the inspiration refrance for several comic artist of that gen.
As Byrne (black-queen JeanGrey) and Sekowsky (Mod era Diana Prince) refranced the later Emma Peel (Diana Rigg

This is my favorite post here. Such a fun, well thought out, what-if.

I think about a 4th season a lot, and my ideal 4th season would look a lot like the one described. Christopher Lee would definitely be my pick for Ra’s Al Ghul though.

I actually have him as Ra's in several other Batman related castings.
He'd be perfect for Ras.

Central City Observatory where Flash fights the 3 rogues in the climax of the film
A Flash that looks like an art-deco demon in two of the pics. Huge wings on the cowl there :)

One pic has a way too clunky feel. It's almost as if some fan designers want the character to look like Iron Man. Where's that trend coming from?

I like the overall art deco design in some pics. The cars in the street, for example.
Some vehicles has a more otherwordly art deco design. Especially one. I don't know what that big black "car" is supposed to be. Maybe a bus?
The train looks a little scary, lol

Captain Cold has a very different look than the usual one.

The cast seems good.
I think Helena Bonham Carter will be a very psychotic Killer Frost.

Burton doing Flash is intriguing, but maybe he's not the right director.
I would have thought it to be closer to the 90s series which has Burtonverse vibes.

The Wachowskis being involved seems like it won't fit in with Burton's usual way of doings films. But it will bring another layer, which is interesting too.

Looking back on it now, The Wachowskis might clash with Burton given that they both have very unique and different styles.:funny:.

While I wouldn't pick Burton as a Flash director, with this one, and several upcoming ones, I had Burton basically directing all the JL member films including Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Superman.

With this one, I was trying to envision what a Burton Flash film would look like, and how he might approach it , hence, alot of the wilder designs including the spooky black train. :oldrazz:

So, I was thinking about Burtons first two Batman films which had that art deco 40s look, while at the same time, I was thinking in terms of a much more futuristic Central city than it's Gotham City counterpart, so it looks more like an art deco, steampunk type of vibe.

I agree with you that there seems to be a superhero suit aesthetic that's leaning into the Ironman designs. The designs I picked came from the Injustice Gods Among Us game, I think.

Actually , come to thing of it, had this really been in the late 90s , the flash suit would probably look more like a updated version of the Shipp suit from the series than the designs here which are very 21st century in terms of its aesthetic .

As far as the cast goes, I tried to go with alot of actors that Burton has worked with in the past, since that tends to be how he's casted alot of his films.

Like Nolan, he tends to return to alot of the same actors who've worked on his prior films.
I got several of them in supporting roles in this cast.

Depp seemed like he would have been Burton's 1 one choice to play Barry Allen, and I think Carter fits Burton's Killer Frost to a T.

While I don't know if Burton would go with Pitt as RF, it would be fascinating to see Depp and Pitt play off of each other as rivals.

I don't think they ever did a film together, but it looks like there are a few pictures of them together.
