Disappointing to read they pulled a Star Trek Into Darkness. I had my reservations as it gave a QoS vibe during filming (came off a well received previous movie, trying to be "bigger"). Skyfall had its faults but was entertaining. This one sounds like a chore, especially the "twist" that wasn't really needed.

Once they announced the title and revealed the logo it was pretty obvious. I really don't understand trying to force a twist like this. It's like trying to hide who Q was in Skyfall.

I saw the film today. Underwhelming to say the least and a step down from Skyfall. Still entertaining though but some things just bothered me. The plot and story just felt so familiar because I had seen it done better in other movies I guess. I gave it a 7.5/10. And Dave's role was Sooo disappointing especially given the scene where we first meet him.

I know for some people the plot worked. I couldn't stand it. I would have enjoyed the film a lot more were it not for that. It just didn't feel necessary at all.

I also wasn't overly keen on the acting. I often felt like they were all whispering, or speaking through gritted teeth. In the end, I felt less like any of these characters were actually having a meaningful interaction with each other, but rather setting the scene for the big the finale that just lacked oomph for me because I didn't really care for any of them. I found everyone incredibly boring.

But then sadly, I'd also say I did enjoy the film - because first and foremost, it was entertaining. But on top of that entertainment, it just felt flat and cold.

Hilarious how the producers hated Austin Powers and yet stole a twist from it. WHY?

Disappointing to read they pulled a Star Trek Into Darkness.

which they originally stole from The Dark Knight Rises.

Quantum of Solace or Spectre. I would have to think about that.

Quantum Of Solace is still the worst because of Dominic Generic.

Are you referring to the boyfriend in QOS?

Dominic Greene was the bugged eyed Frenchman, the main villain of QoS.

Greene was the bad guy whose plan was refreshingly simple and brutally effective, but who was himself very forgettable. I liked how Bond took care of him though, what with leaving him in the desert with a can of oil for a drink. And the way they revealed someone else finished him off by shooting him afterwards was a nice little stinger to let us know that while Qunatum was sinking, it still had assets in play.

And it sounds like Spectre's biggest problem was planting a reason for personal enmity into Bond and the villain's backstories instead of showing one naturally growing, particularly if
they always planned on having Bloefeld survive for another film
. A personal hatred could have been built off just having the characters interact and having Waltz's villain show a spiteful and petty side. Just make the feud escalate throughout the film's: have Oberhauser be the professional mastermind behind the honey trap from Casino Royale, then he barely escapes Bond's housecleaning of Quantum, then have Oberhauser and Bond become aware of each other and find a bit of fun in twisting the knife against each other till we've got a full on feud.

And tying in Skyfall like they did might have been done better by just implying that Spectre was the resurgent remnant of Quantum seeking to get MI5 off their trail by financing Silva; he would still be an autonomous threat, but they'd be allies of convenience.

It wasn't really like that though it really just was a little dull. I know what you mean, what you describe is something along the lines of the awesome Jack Reacher car chase that felt real and gritty, like two people actually having a car chase. This isn't that. You could tell they had 2 very expensive cars that couldn't get a single scratch on. It didn't look like they were chasing each other just out for a drive.

Reacher is a great example I agree, much like the stripped down car/bike chase in Rogue Nation. I think what those movies and Bullit had in common is that Cruise and McQueen did their own driving, allowing the director to capture more dynamic footage. When the driving is all stunt drivers it's hard to create an exciting chase without some gags to fill it out.

Just got back from Spectre and I hate to say it, but it might be the worst Craig-era Bond movie.

Awkward pacing, dull action scenes and an under- and misused Christoph Waltz.

My ranking:

Casino Royale
Skyfall
Quantum of Solace or Spectre. I would have to think about that.

Damn.

Yeah someone another forum who's seen it already seems to have had a similar sentiment. Well that kinda sucks.

Hmm, reading the last couple of pages it seems like some folk dont like Spectre. But, I'm not gonna get all gloomy as its all just subjective after all - there are conversely many reviews and posts on forums saying that they love the movie.

Me?

I'm reserving judgement until I actually see it for myself, later tonight. And I'm definitely not letting the negative opinions put me off seeing it (I've actually read people saying exactly that - WTF?!) - no force on earth would get me to do that.

Quantum of Solace is not a very good movie, but I'm tempted to rank it above Spectre because at least it didn't bore me. It had some ugly action scenes, but overall it was a pretty entertaining experience. Greene was generic in terms of plot and motivation, but the actor had this slimy aura that I kind of enjoyed. Plus, the Bond-M interactions were pretty great.

Hell they did it with Moneypenny.

The Moneypenny thing made more sense, since:

1. They were finally giving her a backstory (and first name) on-film.
2. I feel like it'd be less obvious who she was to people who weren't closely following the production (she could have easily just been a female MI6 agent working with Bond with a minor script tweak), unlike with Waltz were it was freaking obvious from Day One.

Excited for this movie, but this post is spot-on in terms of the silly need these days to try and link everything that happens in a person's life together.

It is still a non-reveal for the characters themselves, just as no one in-universe would ever care that John Blake's first name is Robin.

It is the worst screen writing trend.

We might not agree on football mate but hopefully we agree on Bond as I loved SPECTRE. :D

Good grief! I'm enjoying these world premieres.

Everyday is a monica bellucci post on every page lol

She is like fine wine! :ilv:
