Gust’s New Project Announced As “Land of No Night” For PS4, PS3, And Vita. May 12, 2015 . 3:12am

This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine details Land of No Night, a new project by Atelier makers Gust.

gust_150511_thumb.jpg

While it’s not exactly the 14th of May in Japan yet, it happens to land on the day Japanese video game magazines publish weekly, and details are already available. This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine details Land of No Night, a new project by Atelier makers Gust. [Thanks, Game Jouhou]

Keisuke Kikuchi, known for his work in the Deception and Fatal Frame series, will be in charge of the upcoming action RPG for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Land of No Night takes place on an island known as “Le Soir” (meaning “the evening” in French) and will tell the tale of the fate of two girls. Using magic swords and demon subordinates known as “Servan,” Land of No Night is described as an action RPG with a refreshing sense of cooperation.

The protagonist is a half-fairy girl named Arnath [アーナス] voiced by MAO, and a saint named Rulitis [リュリーティス] voiced by Hiromi Igarashi. Keep in mind that we aren’t certain of the official romanizations for either of those names, since Japanese developers have a tendency to pick odd names.

The general producer for Land of No Night is Tadanobu Inoue, who has been working at Gust after having worked at Falcom. Meanwhile, the development producer is Keisuke Kikuchi, and as previously mentioned, has worked on Deception and Fatal Frame titles.

While we’ve yet to see any visuals for the game, the illustrator has been announced as Yoshiku. You can cehck out some of his artwork on his Pixiv profile and his official blog.

Land of No Night will release in Japan on August 27, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Story
People who were once human—
The battle against the monster leader, known as the Ruler of the Night, ended in human victory. However, the polluted blood from his fall scattered and left behind a root of evil. Those that bathe in its blue blood change form and become beings known as Jayou—creatures that take away the night from the people.
Since then, the people of this land go about their doings while the light shines, as the Jayou come out when darkness falls. A land that never sleeps, it’s become known as the “Land Without Night.” Bathed in blue blood, a girl cursed with the abilities of a “Bloodsucker” lives for those of the Land Without Night, and fights alone as the night’s sacrifice.
This Land Without Night does not exist on maps. This is the story of two girls’ love scattered in history. A story of life and battle not told by anyone thereafter. A story based on this true love, both sadder than anything else and more beautiful than the moon—.
Characters

  • Arnas (voiced by MAO) – A holy knight that serves the curia. She once touched the blood of the Ruler of the Night, and has become half-human, half-monster. With her bloodsucking ability coming from her half-monster side, she fights using a demon sword formed from her blood. She is a quiet and calm girl at first glance, but has strong passion hidden within.
  • Lyuritis (voiced by Hiromi Igarashi) – The chosen saint of the current era. In exchange for her life, she is destined to seal away the Ruler of the Night. Arnas is Lyuritis’ close friend from boarding school. Although she only grasps the expectations of the curia to a certain extent, she has accepted her fate as a saint. Her nickname is “Lulu.”
The Two Girls
The saint who carries the burden of devoting her life to seal the Ruler of the Night. And the holy knight protecting the saint from Jayou and delivering her to the Ruler of the Night.
Arnas is newly dispatched to Rusewall Island, where she is reunited with her close friend Lyuritis. It’s their first meeting since leaving boarding school, so the two girls do not hide their happiness.
But their encounter was no coincidence.
A holy knight and a saint. In reality, their bonds will be torn. Does Arnas protect the life of her close friend, or sacrifice the saint’s life to the Ruler of the Night? For these girls in conflict, their fated decision draws nearer at every moment.
Demon Subordinates: “Servans”
Arnas can form a contract with familiars, or subordinate demons, known as “Servans.” During battle, she can summon them to fight.
Subordinate Demon Types
Various types of Servans exist. Gust has outlined the following two:

  • Attacker Type – This type specializes in continuous attacks in accordance with Arnas’ commands.
  • Support Type – This type specializes in HP and status ailment recovery, as well as applying buffs.
You can contract demons with items called “Yorishiro.”
Training Your Demons
Demons grow as they fight alongside Arnas, with more traits coming out as they grow. You can train your demons evenly, or pick a favorite. It’s up to the player.

Land of No Night Will Tell The Story Of Two Girls And Their Untold Love. May 18, 2015 . 4:05am

We now have details on the game’s story and a look at some of its friendly monsters.

Atelier makers Gust and Keisuke Kikuchi, known for his work on Deception and Fatal Frame, are working together for an upcoming action RPG called Land of No Night. We now have details on the game’s story and a look at some of its friendly monsters.

Mankind has won a battle against the leader of monsters, known as the Lord of the Night. However, upon his defeat, the Lord of the Night’s blood spilled out, and this blood would later become the source of calamity.

Those that came into contact with the blue blood turned into what is known as the “Jayou,” or Wicked Spirits, and have began to take away the world of night from people.

Ever since, mankind has carried out its activities while there is light shining across the land. Meanwhile, the Wicked Spirits show up during the darkness, turning it into a sleepless “Land of No Night”.

Having taken in this blue blood, one girl is granted the powers of a curse called “Bloodsucker,” and she lives for those of the Land of No Night, fighting for a girl who is to be a sacrifice to the night.

The “Land of No Nights” doesn’t exist on any maps. The story tells the tale of the life and fight, and the love of two girls, that have gone untold in the books of history. A story based on true love—sadder than anything, more beautiful than the moon—will be told.

Almost done

While the story of Land of No Night involves monsters that take the night away from people, there are demon subordinates known as the “Servans” that will be there to help Arnath.

The Servans come in various types. For example, the Attacker Type Servans will take commands from Arnath and continuously attack the Wicked Spirits. Meanwhile, the Support Type Servans will be there for recovering HP and healing negative status effects.

Depending on what type of Servans you take with you, the playstyle will vary. They’ll also level as they continue fighting alongside Arnath, and will begin to show more of their characteristics on the battlefield as they become stronger.

Land of No Night will release in Japan on August 27, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

The Land of No Night: Details On The Relationship Between The Two Girls. May 19, 2015 . 4:00pm

More details on the story behind these two girls, and what fate awaits them.

Gust’s next game is an action RPG titled Land of No Night, where we’ll see the tale of two girls and their untold love. We now have more details on the story behind these two girls, and what fate awaits them.

Arnath:

A holy knight that serves the church. She touched the blood from the king of monsters, known as the “Lord of the Night,” and has become half human and half monster. She brings out a magic sword from the powers of her half-monster side’s “Bloodsucker” abilities to take on monsters known as Wicked Spirits.

At first glance, she may seem like a calm and quiet young lady, but she actually has a strong passion inside her.

Rulitis:

Rulitis is the young lady that was chosen to be a saint in the current generation. It has become her fate to seal the “Lord of Night” in exchange for her life. She’s been good friends with Arnath since their earlier days of living together at the boarding house. Rulitis also goes by “Ruru”.

The “saint” gives her own life in order to seal away the Lord of the Night, while the “holy knight” must protect the saint from the Wicked Spirits, while safely guiding her to the Lord of the Night. Arnath has been dispatched to Le Soir Island, and it is where she will once again reunite with her friend Rulitis. This marks the first time they meet since leaving each other at the boarding house, and the two can’t contain their happiness.

However, their encounter isn’t a mere coincidence, as they are a holy knight and saint. Koei Tecmo say their bond will be torn apart. Will Arnath protect the life of her friend, or will she take the saint’s life to the Lord of the Night? That’s one of the questions that The Land of No Night will answer.

Land of No Night is slated for release in Japan on August 27, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Yoru no Nai Kuni details transformation, weapon changes
Published 8 hours ago. 55 comments.
Plus, new characters Christophoros and Simon introduced.

Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_Top.jpg
The latest set of details on Gust’s new PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita action RPG Yoru no Nai Kuni details protagonist Arnas’ ability to transform, her various weapon changes, and introduces two new characters.
Get the details below.
The Power to Defeat Jayou

Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_001.jpg

In order to protect Lyuritis from the Jayou, Arnas must throw herself into battle. She’ll do this by putting her subordinate demons to work and taking the fight in various directions.

  • 1) Summoning Subordinate Demons – Fight by summoning subordinate demons. You use SP when you summon a demon, but it is also possible to summon multiple demons. There are a number of strategies you can play out depending on which subordinate demons you summon.
  • 2) Direct Your Summons, Use Special Skills – Arnas can give instructions to her subordinate demons, such as “Fight together!” With good instruction, you can launch a number of regular attacks, and you can even use your summons as decoys. Additionally, subordinate demons also each possess their own special skills that the player can trigger.
  • 3) Arnas’ Attacks – Of course, Arnas also has her own light, heavy, and special attacks that she can use with her carried weapon. When you land one attack after the other, it’s called a “Chain.” There are a number of benefits to chaining, such as building up your “Transformation Gauge.”
  • 4) Transforming – When your Transformation Gauge is filled, you can trigger your “transformation.” Doing this, you’ll borrow the power of your subordinate demons to transform into something entirely different.
  • 5) Changing Weapons – Arnas will have various weapons she can change between, each with their own different features.
Blood Awakening = Transformation

Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_002.jpg

Transformation is Arnas’ trump card. In her transformation state, she is able to attack enemies with ultra powerful force.
Arnas has various transformations, which vary in appearance and ability. Outside of her appearance, both Arnas and her subordinate demons see big changes, but that’s transformation’s biggest appeal.

  • Breaking the Boundaries – In the transformation state, your attack range is wider, you move at higher speeds, and you can pull off actions that normal-state Arnas could never perform.
  • Subordinate Demons Powered Up – Arnas’ transformation brings about status boosts for her subordinate demons, as well. You’ll know that they’re powered-up by the new auras they’ll wear.
  • Transformation Gauge – Pictured in the lower left of the screen, this is filled as Arnas and her subordinate demons continue to attack enemies. Build it up to its highest and you can transform.
  • Subordinate Demon Formation and Transformation – For transformation, your form will change depending on your subordinate demons’ formation. If you take ‘which’ types of subordinate demons along, what form will Arnas transform into? The trials and errors of subordinate demon formation is part of the fun.
There isn’t only one form Arnas can transform into. What other forms and abilities is Arnas hiding within? Find out more in a future update.
Weapon Changing

Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_003.jpg

By transforming her own blood into a weapon, Arnas can fight Jayou enemies alongside her subordinate demons. There are various forms of weapons Arnas can wield, which you can switch between depending on the battle situation. Additionally, when you change your weapon, your subordinate demons also change, but…

  • Weapon: Sword – Arnas’ starting weapon. It’s well balanced in both speed and attack range, and useful in any situation.
  • Weapon: Rifle – A rifle that shoots bullets. You can use it to increase the attack power of your subordinate demons, as well as shoot bullets to restore HP.
  • Weapon: War Hammer – A giant hammer even bigger than Arnas. It’s slow, but its attack power is high, and it can be used to brush away enemies.
  • Unlocking New Weapons – As Arnas levels up, she’ll unlock new weapons for use.
Subordinate Demons Changing Based on Your Weapon

Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_004.jpg

When you switch between weapons, depending on the weapon you use, your subordinate demons will be endowed with new abilities. With each demon’s unique characteristics, Arnas’ instructions, and now her weapon changing, these join together to offer new abilities that change up the strategy of battle.

  • Change When Using the Rifle: Total Vanguard – When you equip the rifle, your subordinate demons approach the enemy assertively and protect Arnas. As vanguards, they hold back Jayou so Arnas can safely attack from a distance.
  • Change When Using the War Hammer: Stun Attack – When you equip the war hammer, your subordinate demons are able to stun enemies with their attacks. With the enemy stunned, Arnas can use the war hammer to deliver a mighty blow.
Constantly-Changing Battle Strategies

Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_005.jpg

Considering subordinate demon formation, transformations, weapon characteristics, each weapon’s additional abilities, and so on, the game’s strategies will continue to change in various forms.

  • Transformation, Subordinate Demons, and Strategy – The changes in Arnas’ and her subordinate demons’ abilities during the transformation state cannot be compared to their normal state. You can give preference to the form and abilities of the transformation you want, as well as choose your subordinate demons, allowing the player to create their own style of play.
  • Weapon Changing, Subordinate Demons, and Strategy – With weapon changes, the breadth of battle is widened. Enemy size, type, and quantity, as well as the terrain, combined with your subordinate demons’ additional abilities and your weapon’s special traits, must be considered when thinking about how to most effectively defeat enemies.
  • Subordinate Demons’ Skills and Strategy – Just like Arnas, her subordinate demons also have HP and SP, which allow you to use special skills. Each demon has their own special skills that players can activate.
The formation of your subordinate demons have a significant impact on your transformations and play style. It’s not complicated to think about—if you want to fight with Arnas, if you want to fight entrusting the battle to your subordinate demons—from here, you make your own special formation and battle direction.

  • Formation Example #1: Arnas Leads – The player defeats all the enemies, leaving recovery and support to the subordinate demons.
  • Formation Example #2: Leave It to the Subordinate Demons – Entrust the battle to your subordinate demons, while Arnas focuses her attention on providing instruction and support.
Subordinate Demons
Wood Golem (Defender Type)
A subordinate demon who was originally a great tree. Using its large stature, it acts as a shield for Arnas. Its special skill is a war cry that draws in enemies.

Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_006.jpg

Bisque (Tricky Type)
A mischievous subordinate demon. It’s young in appearance and can warp from a distance to set up looping punches and barriers.
Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_007.jpg

Characters
Christophoros (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa)
The masked “Pure-Blooded Ghost” who dwells the opera house. She wields a baton, plays an orchestra of ruin, and invites those who listen to death. She often appears before Arnas with advice, but her reasons for doing so are currently unknown.
Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_008.jpg

Simon (voiced by Masaki Terasoma)
A hotel manager and cafe master. He is always wiping down cups and glasses, and offers drinks to visitors at the perfect timing. The hotel is under the influence of the curia, and given Arnas is a holy knight, Simon plays a supporting role to her as was ordered to him. Simon has a quiet composure and provides Arnas and company tender cared support.
Yoru-no-Nai-Kuni_05-31-15_009.jpg
Premium Box (8,800 yen)

  • Yoru no Nai Kuni original soundtrack (two discs)

I think it's better to just use the English title for thread names, since using the Japanese along with English can be confusing. As far as I know, there's no Japanese posters here, so it doesn't serve a lot of purpose.

Land of No Night Trailer Shows More Of Its Drama And Action. June 2, 2015 . 4:44am

The Land of No Night’s latest trailer shares a glimpse at both the action and relationship aspects of the game.

Gust’s upcoming action RPG, Land of No Night, will tell the tale of two girls and the struggles of their untold love, along with action that involves monsters you summon into combat. The game’s latest trailer shows us a bit of both parts.

[YT]YdwVdr5JM8E[/YT]

Rulitis is the young lady with orange hair, and she was chosen as the saint of the current generation. She bears the fate of having to seal the “Lord of Night” by giving up her life.

On the other hand, her friend Arnath serves the church as a holy knight, entrusted with the task of guiding her to the Lord of Night, knowing the fate that awaits her. She’ll face the ultimate decision of whether she’ll do as expected of a holy knight, or protect the life of her friend, and love, Rulitis.

Land of No Night will release in Japan on August 27, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita. You can read more about the girls in our earlier report.

Land of No Night Details How You’ll Fight, Summon, And Transform. June 3, 2015 . 1:05pm

More details on the gameplay, and how you’ll play as Arnath, summon beasts, and transform.

We recently got a look at Land of No Night’s trailer that showed us some of the drama and action we’ll see in Gust’s upcoming title. Now we have more details on the gameplay, and how you’ll play as Arnath, summon beasts, and transform.

014_thumb.jpg

In Land of No Night, you’ll play as Arnath and protect Rulitis from the “Jayou” or Wicked Spirits. There are several ways that you’ll be doing this.

The first, is by summoning demon subordinates known as “Servans”. These demons cost SP to summon, but you’ll also get to summon multiple at a time. Depending on which Servans you have out, there will be different strategies.

Next, you can give orders to your Servans and have them use special skills. For example, you can order them to “fight together!” and give other specific commands. By giving good orders, you’ll be able to set up all-out attacks or use Servans as decoys. Again, each Servan has their own special skills that can be activated by the player.

Arnath can also attack using her own light, heavy, and special attacks using her weapon. Consecutive attacks are called “Chains,” and the higher the Chain is the more it’ll build up the “Transformation Gauge”.

Once the Transformation Gauge fills up, you’ll get to activate Arnath’s “Transformation”. This ability uses the power from the Servans in order to transform.

Arnath can also switch through her weapons. Each weapon has their own different characteristics.

The above is a look at Artnath’s “Blood Awakening” or Transformation. It becomes possible to activate once her Transformation Gauge fills up, and once she does, her attacking power increases tremendously. Her form will change depending on the formation of the Servans.

Arnath’s transformations come in different forms, and they all have their own looks and abilities. While transformed, her range, power, speed increases, and she’ll be able to do actions that she normally can’t do otherwise.

Additionally, while transformed, Arnath’s Servans will also have increases parameters. You’ll know when they have buffs with the aura around them.

By using her blood to create weapons, Arnath can bust out weapons of different types. You’ll get to use different weapons according to the various situations you find yourself in.

Her sword is the first weapon she’ll have access to. It’s well-balanced in attack speed and range, and can be used in various situations. The rifle can shoot enemies from a distance. They can be used to increase the attack of Servans, or even to recover HP with shots.

The War Hammer is a huge weapon with high power, but it’s pretty slow. It can also knock enemies back. Arnath will have access to these three weapons, and will unlock several more as she levels up.

Arnath Shows Off Her Rabbit Form And More Weapons In Land of No Night. June 29, 2015 . 2:00am

Land of No Night protagonist Arnath can use her own blood to bust out different weapons, or the blood of enemies to transform into different modes.

Land of No Night protagonist Arnath can use her own blood to bust out different weapons, or the blood of enemies to transform into different modes. 4Gamer shares the latest on the game, with a look at some of Arnath’s transformations and weapons.

Arnath’s Dagger weapon lets you pull off quick attacks that go with multiple hits, leaving little room for your opponent to counter.

The Dagger weapon also provides your subordinate demons, or Servans, with the “Bleed Hit” ability, which basically does a bleeding effect on the target.

The Long Sword has range and reach. It can suck the blood of the enemies you take down, and add it to your power. The more blood you suck with this weapon, the more your attack’s power increases, too.

The Arena is a feature found at the Ende Hotel. This is where you can go to participate in fights that have certain winning requirements, such as time limits, being limited to certain moves, and so on. It’s a great way to gain special rewards, including some that can only be found here.

As previously reported, Arnath can transform by chaining attacks together and building up her “Transformation Gauge”. Once the bar fills up, you’ll get to transform, and get powers from the Servans. Transformations, like the Rabbit Form shown in the above images, vary depending on the Servans you have in the party.

The above menu screen gives you an idea on what kind of transformations you’ll get according to the Servans in your lineup. The markers shown on the bottom are what determines the transformation.

The Rabbit Form excels at close-range hand-to-hand combat. It provides Arnath with an edge with its speed and light body to take out groups of Jayou monsters.

Land of no Night’s protagonist will face the dilemma of having to choose between saving her beloved friend or fulfilling her duty as a Holy Knight. Gust’s latest trailer shows off more transformations in action and some of the drama that unfolds during the game.

Rulitis, the red-haired girl was chosen as the “Saint” of the current generation. It’s her fate to seal the “Lord of Night” at the cost of her life, and it’ll be up to the protagonist Arnath to make sure she gets there safely.

However, after reuniting with her old friend since they haven’t seen each other since their days of living together at the boarding house, Arnath faces the dilemma of whether she should fulfill her duty as the Holy Knight and watch her friend die, or if it’s for the best to save her friend.

In the trailer, Arnath exclaims that she will fight for Rulitis, and that she wants to walk together with her. She’ll do everything she can to save the world and her friend, but Rulitis sounds troubled about that, thinking that she isn’t worth it.

Now that Arnath will go against what she was ordered to do, it seems like she’s going to face plenty of adversary in Land of No Night, but she’ll get all the help she can from her summoned demon subordinates and 35 Thoughts that will come into play.

Land of No Night’s Hotel Is Full Of Friendly Monsters And Various Activities. July 13, 2015 . 3:00am

Land of No Night’
s protagonist Arnath’s goal is to do everything she can to protect her friend Rulitis, but she’ll have some time to spare until the moment of truth arrives. 4Gamer shows us some of the activities that can be done at the game’s main base of operations.

Arnath will spend her days fighting against the Jayou while gathering information. The above is a look at the hotel known as “Ende,” which is the base of operations, where Arnath will prepare herself to continue protecting Rulitis.

Until the time comes for the church to issue the final order, Arnath will need to keep protecting Rulitis. Arnath will continue getting various orders from the church until then.

In order to protect Rulitis, Arnath explores different possibilities to take on the “Lord of the Night” without the need of sacrificing the person she cares for. She’ll do so by fighting alongside her demon subordinates known as Servans, as she grows and advances through the story.

At times, Arnath will encounter giant Jayou boss monsters, and she’ll even have to save someone from one at a point. This character will provide more information for the story to advance.

After her routine fight with the Jayou, Arnath can take a breather at Ende. This is also where your Servans reside, and you’ll get to check out their daily lives and also organize them. There’s also a way to enhance Arnath by using Blood at the Yord Altair.

The “Actualize” feature is where you use a “Yoshiro” to form contract with a new Servan. Depending on the Yoshiro typoe, you’ll get a different Servan.

While Arnath can only take on the Jayou at night, there are plenty of other activities she can do at the hotel during the day. As previously reported, there’s an arena feature that lets you test out Arnath and her Servans’ skills.

And done

There are also places to buy, sell, and trade your items, so you won’t have to worry too much about going far out of your way to take care of your inventory and equipment. Once you get further along in the story, you’ll also get to trade items from faraway lands.

You’ll find various requests at the hotel during the day and night. While most of it consists of taking out Jayou, you’ll find some different requests, too. The clients aren’t always human, and you might find some that know a bit about the mystery behind the Jayou.

Land of No Night will release in Japan on August 27, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Arnath’s “Phantom Form” Provides Plenty Of Support In Land of No Night. July 14, 2015 . 4:18am

In Land of No Night, Arnath uses her blood for transformations. Depending on the type of transformation, she’ll have various effects that help her or the Servans in battle.

We previously got a look at Land of No Night’s Hotel Ende, where Arnath and her demon subordinates, or Servans, will go to rest when they’re not out taking on the Jayou monsters. Now, here’s a look at Arnath’s latest form.

In Land of No Night, Arnath uses her blood for transformations. Depending on the type of transformation, she’ll have various effects that help her or the Servans in battle.

The above is a look at the mage-like “Phantom Form.” When Arnath is in her Phantom Form, she attacks from a distance, and specializes in recovering SP and HP for her and the Servans. It’s a transformation that excels in support.

While in Phantom Form, Arnath will also get an ability that lets Servans automatically regenerate SP, making it possible to continuously pull off special attacks.

The Phantom Form has more of a sharp shooter-style of fighting, where Arnath keeps her distance from the enemy while landing powerful magic attacks.

In addition to automatically recovering the Servans’ SP for continuous special attacks, she’ll also have access to area-of-effect heals, so she can keep providing her subordinates with plenty of HP as well.

Finally, here’s a look at some more of the Servans in Land of No Night:

Promy:

A magic-type Servan with fire attributes. It shows its powers whenever it finds the enemy’s weakness.

Mine Bomber:

A tracking-type Servan that rolls and spins around Arnath, and once its HP goes to zero the Mine Bomber self destructs.

Ifrita:

A support-type Servan that can create a field used to increase the status of all allies.

Land of No Night is slated for release in Japan on August 27, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.
