Nights of Azure details Servans, Demon Forms

Published 15 hours ago. 29 comments.

Protagonist Arnice can take five different demon forms.

Nights-of-Azure_02-26-16.jpg

Koei Tecmo has shared new Nights of Azure information, video, and screenshots, introducing the Servans that fight alongside protagonist Arnice and the four demon forms she can take on.

Get the information below.
Servans
These Servans have several functions, as some of them can be called as healers, attackers, defenders, tricksters, followers, or mages and they have quite lively characters. Arnice can upgrade and equip them when she is at the hotel base, and they all gain experience from battle.
Putting together a nicely functioning team of up to four Servans before starting a mission helps Arnice balance her team according to the requirements of each task. Furthermore, as the Servans have personalities of their own, it’s always entertaining to see how they will react when teamed up with others.
However, there is another element that determines which allies could form a strong team. All Servans have a ‘transformation factor’ attached to them. This influences Arnice significantly as she also has the power to transform into a Demon!
Demon Forms
Overall Arnice can take five different demon forms, depending on the sum of the transformation factor of the Servans that accompany her:

  • Demon Form – The basic form, which allows Arnice the power to manipulate fire.
  • Rabbit Form – A form that gives Arnice unnatural speed.
  • Phantom Form – A form that transforms Arnice into a blue sharpshooter, allowing her to strike from a distance.
  • Armor Form – A stronger, well balanced form that increases both the offensive and defensive attributes of the protagonist.
  • Nightmare Form – An overpowering demonic creature form.
Nights of Azure will launch for PlayStation 4 in North America on March 29 and in Europe on April 1.

NightsofAzure_BestBuy02.jpg

Nights of Azure is a game that we here at oprainfall have been waiting to get our hands on since it was first announced for Japan. Readers have shown interest in the game’s overall look and design, but wanted to know more. So in an attempt to give accurate information to our readers, we reached out to Koei Tecmo for an interview. Producer Keisuke Kikuchi (Rygar, Fatal Frame) took the time to answer our questions about the story, characters, and future of Nights of Azure.
Nights of Azure is a new IP—how was it for the team to create a new world and story for this experience?
The original idea of Nights of Azure was actually an alternative plan that we came up with during the development process of a previous title. Our basic idea was to develop an RPG that takes place in an urban setting within an uncharted world, including both humans and “inhabitants” of a night world. Some things remained from our first draft such as the game’s Japanese title, Yoru no Nai Kuni, as well as some of the stage settings we had created, but we created a brand new world setting when we set out to develop the game. In terms of story, we were aiming to create a plot akin to the short story The Gift of the Magi, featuring two main characters with inconsistent beliefs.
What was the development process for Nights of Azure and did it ever go through any major changes?
Initially, the Servan – demon helpers that assist Arnice throughout Nights of Azure – were extremely bland, with little to no personality. They were more along the lines of just having a standard RPG skill or special ability, and the game was designed to allow players to call and use them time and time again. However, during our internal monitoring process, we found that compared to similar skills in other action RPGs, these Servan were distinct and we felt that we needed to develop that dynamic more. We allowed them further growth and increased the conversations they had, turning them into mini-characters. In addition, some of the Arena quests involve a set of 4 of the Servan, which makes the most of the original design.
What would you say is the theme of Nights of Azure?
The main theme of Nights of Azure is friendship. We would like players to enjoy the story that encapsulates Arnice and Lilysse’s struggle to save the world while trying to protect their most-treasured friend – each other.
NightsofAzure_Event03.jpg

What was the impetus for the art direction of the main characters, Arnice and Lilysse?
The Illustrator of Nights of Azure is Mr. Yoshiku. Our team spent a lot of time exploring ways of weaving in his unique art style – such as his sense of colors and ability to display feminine expressions – with the dark and mysterious theme of this title. Arnice was designed to seem like a calm and collected woman at first glance, although she harbors a fierce passion deep inside her. Lilysse, on the other hand, was characterized as an open-minded/naive woman.
What is their relationship with each other?
Arnice and Lilysse are close childhood friends. Lilysse accepts her destiny as a Saint to seal the Nightlord for the sake of humanity, while Arnice is commanded by the Curia to protect the Saint. Arnice and Lilysse are a lot like each other and because of this they sometimes quarrel, but ultimately they are really close friends and have an inseparable bond with each other.
Nights-of-Azure_Transformation02.jpg

The battle system in Nights of Azure is different from previous GUST titles. Why did you choose to move away from turn-base fights and instead go with a more fast-paced action battle system
GUST has been considering incorporating action elements while keeping the RPG aspect as a key focus, so to challenge ourselves in this endeavor we decided to establish an unprecedented style (for GUST) for a new IP title. We chose this concept because Arnice and Lilysse play dynamic roles in the story.
Who from the GUST sound team created the soundtrack for Nights of Azure? What was their inspiration for the score?
Our music department here at GUST was in charge of the music for Nights of Azure, which includes the same music ensemble that brings you the music of the Atelier series.
Nights of Azure is all about Arnice’s struggle to protect Lilysse, so to bring out and emphasize such a strong female character, we made frequent use of guitar and orchestra additions to the battle scenes and intense events. In contrast, we decided to mainly employ jazz and piano music during hotel scenes or peaceful scenes between Arnice and Lilysse.
The Nights of Azure soundtrack also offers a number of elements that bring to mind a European influence, but that wasn’t our main focus, as we designed the music to best support and highlight the drama between the two girls.
How much did Western demand for Nights of Azure influence the team when deciding if it should be localized?
We felt that we should localize this game regardless of Western demand, as we wanted to bring the new IP and gameplay style to as many audiences as possible, as long as any localization also conveys the impact of Arnice and Lilysse’s story. The Nights of Azure title was based on our overseas marketing team’s impression when we presented the original title.
There’s been a Vita version teased over Twitter, are you considering a Vita version for the Western release?
From our sales strategy point of view, we would like focus efforts on PS4 sales.
NightsofAzure_Amazon01.jpg

With the announcement of Gust-Chan as a Pre-Order DLC character is there any hope for future DLC in the form of characters or added story?
I currently don’t have any information regarding that at this moment, but I personally would like to continue to work with this title and develop a continuous series. With that in mind we will continue to explore various possibilities.
Will Gust-Chan ever have her own adventure?
Gust-Chan is the mascot character of GUST, and this is the first time for her to be introduced in any games developed by GUST. For now we encourage players to enjoy GUST’s new IP, Nights of Azure, and we promise to always put forth our best efforts in development.

KOEI TECMO AMERICA LAUNCHES ANTICIPATED NEW IP FROM GUST, NIGHTS OF AZURE

Creators of ‘Atelier’ Series and Producer Keisuke Kikuchi Present America with a Dark, Demon-centric Adventure, Now Available Exclusively for PlayStation®4
Burlingame, Calif.—March 29, 2016—KOEI TECMO America today announced the western release of Nights of Azure, a brand new RPG adventure and IP from the development studio behind the long-running Atelier series, GUST. Known in Japan as Yoru no Nai Kuni, Nights of Azure is now available exclusively for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system. To mark the occasion, KOEI TECMO has unveiled a brand new launch trailer, which can be viewed at:https://youtu.be/aMUPw2EznYc

Under the direction of producer Keisuke Kikuchi (Fatal Frame, Deception IV),Nights of Azure marks a new, darker direction for GUST while maintaining many of the gameplay elements adored by dedicated fans of the studio. Unlike previous GUST titles, however, the protagonist has a very active role in the game’s real-time battle system.

Few leave their homes after nightfall in the kingdom of Ruswal, let alone have the strength and skill to take on the powerful azure-blooded demons that plague the uncharted island. One of the best among these brave few is Arnice, a beautiful knight of great skill and power sworn to protect humanity and defend the priestess Lilysse—her best friend. As she grows in power, Arnice can summon creatures known as Servan to assist her in battle as well as transform into a demon herself in order to carry out her mission.

Despite her strength, Arnice soon discovers that the solution to the island’s problems might not be as simple as defeating enemies in battle. Nights of Azureis a tragic tale of two friends faced with impossible decisions that will test their loyalty to their quest and to each other.

Nights of Azure Feels More Familiar Than What You Might Think. April 1, 2016 . 7:00pm

Coming from a developer that is known for cutesy / sci-fi alchemy based RPGs,
a fast paced action RPG like Nights of Azure certainly seems like a brave step into unknown territory for Gust.

Coming from a developer that is known for cutesy / sci-fi alchemy based RPGs, a fast paced action RPG like Nights of Azure certainly seems like a brave step into unknown territory for Gust. Look past all the demon slaying however and you’ll see a more familiar game than what you might have been expecting.

Once you’re past all the setup, Nights of Azure falls into something of a familiar structure. You’ll have your main chapter objectives, which usually boils down to head to the new area and take out the boss. Once the boss is defeated, you’ll enter into the interlude phase which makes you think that this is the time to do quests and such but really, it’s just the second half of the chapter with it’s own objectives, only they won’t be as battle oriented and have more of a story first approach, focused around the hotel that functions as your base of operations.

While Nights of Azure isn’t quite as laidback as other Gust games, it still lets you take your time and choose how you want to proceed. Aside from the main chapter objectives, some of the characters have their own objectives they’ll give you to complete, which you can do at anytime. Before you head out, make sure you take on some quests and daytime activities. Quests are randomised so there’s no long set list to repeat but it’s a decent way to earn some extra money and blood, both of which are useful to have in reserves. The daytime activities give you points to used to upgrade and learn new skills. It’s kind of annoying that you can only take on one quest and daytime activity at a time and the only way to take on more is to upgrade the relevant skills. I also would have appreciated a reminder before you head out to take on a quest/daytime activity as there’s no reason not to take one on and it’s easy to forget if you’re only quickly heading in and out of the hotel.

The biggest area, aside from the gameplay, where Nights of Azure deviates is with its soundtrack, as at least to me, it doesn’t have that usual Gust sound. Usually Gust soundtracks are chilled, upbeat affairs with a wide variety of instruments and sounds. Obviously, that wouldn’t quite fit in with the darker themes Nights of Azure is shooting for but I wasn’t expecting a soundtrack that feels like it would fit it in a Ys title. There’s lots of guitar work going on but the few vocal themes you’ll hear bring in some familiarity. While it may not sound the same, it certainly has the Gust visuals, with characters much more detailed than the environments and cutscenes longs with long pans over the scenery.

Going into Nights of Azure, I guess I was expecting a new experience from Gust and I just feel surprised it wasn’t quite as unique as I thought it was going to be. Not that it really cheapens the game in any meaningful and I’m glad to see them make something like this, especially after two trilogies back to back of the standard Atelier formula.

A recent image has surfaced in what appears to be some kind of schedule from a Japanese video game magazine showing a sequel to Nights of Azure, with a “Nights of Azure 2” for PS4 in Japan on December 22, 2016. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

The image above shows a list from the rumored magazine, with a full title of Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon for PlayStation 4 at the price of 7,884 yen, a Special Collection Box edition for 17,604 yen, and a Premium Box edition for 11,124 yen.

Additionally, Gust recently opened a teaser site for a new title with story writer Mokoto Shibata, known for his work in the Fatal Frame and Deception games. The teaser site has a message that involves love and a story on a new moon, so it could also be for this, should it be real. In any case, we’re expected to find out more this week for this new title by Gust. And as always, take things with the grain of salt until then.

The follow-up title to Nights of Azure, which told the story of beautiful girls who challenged an unforgiving fate. Here’s a bit on the game’ story:
Long ago, during the fight between the “Ruler of the Night” and the “Sacred Woman,” humans were active only when the sun shined, while monsters called”Jayou” ran rampant when darkness shrouded the surroundings, in a world where the land never sleeps…

Gust's action RPG sequel due out December 22 in Japan.

Gust has shared first details and screenshots of its newly announced sequel Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon, which is due out for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan on December 22. Get the details below.
■ Story
Can the inhuman save humanity?

The battle of the past between the Nightlord and the Saint left a major impact on the world. That is, a world that never sleeps, where “humans” are active during the hours the light shines, and demons known as fiends run rampant during the hours of darkness. Alushe, a knight of the Curia, is entrusted as a guard to escort the Saint Liliana, her former childhood friend.

After fighting the fiends that attacked them, the two finally arrive at the Curia, but there learn that Liliana is the chosen “Bride of Time” to be offered as a sacrifice to the “Queen of the Moon.” In her surprise, sorrow, and suffering, Alushe takes Liliana and heads for the Queen of the Moon’s castle. However, they’re suddenly attacked by a powerful demon, and Alushe, despite her best efforts, is killed.

When she awakens, Alushe has been resurrected by the Curia as an artificial half-demon. According to the Curia’s researchers, Liliana had already disappeared when they found her, and is said to likely be in the abandoned city. In order to recover the stolen Liliana, the resurrected Alushe heads for the abandoned city, taking along the demon power she does not desire within her.

■ Characters

Alushe Anatoria

The girl possessed with blue blood.

Nights-of-Azure_08-28-16_001.jpg

The protagonist and a knight of the Curia. During her escort of the Saint Liliana, she is attacked and killed by a demon. Afterwards, she is resurrected as a half-demon, which gives her the power to defeat demons, and fights to save Liliana. She has a straightforward personality and is the type to prefer actions over words. Alushe, Liliana, and the holy knight Ruhenheid are childhood friends who were always together, and she is delighted when she reunites with both of them.
(Pictured: Alushe and Servan Nero.)

Liliana Selphin

The kind and powerful Saint.

Nights-of-Azure_08-28-16_002.jpg

A thoughtful and kind-hearted girl. She is the sole Saint that serves the Curia, chosen as the “Bride of Time” to be sacrificed to the “Queen of the Moon.”

While she has a kind personality and is friendly to anyone she meets, she is also strong at her core. She has the ability to slow down the time of a target, and in the past has used that power to help Alushe when she was attacked by fiends.
(Pictured: Liliana and Servan Feuille.)

Ruhenheid Ariarod

A knight who shows her intentions with a sword.

Nights-of-Azure_08-28-16_003.jpg

Alushe and Liliana’s childhood friend. She wields the “Mind Sword Oz,” a sword in which her emotions become her blade. As her childhood friend, she knows Alushe quite well and has a favorable impression of her, but as a holy knight of the “Lourdes Order,” an organization that opposes the Curia, stands before Alushe in order to prevent Liliana from being offered as a sacrifice.

Although she appears to be passionate and somewhat arrogant, with her own sense of justice, she is obedient at her core.
(Pictured: Ruenheid and Servan Shalf.)

■ The Bonds of Childhood Friends

Nights-of-Azure_08-28-16_004.jpg

Alushe, who is perplexed over her second life; Liliana, who accepts her role as a sacrifice; and Ruhenheid, who battles against fate. These three once walked the same path as childhood friends, but were misled and separated by the Nightlord.

When the three once again align their steps, their bonds will become a light to illuminate the darkness, and their story will before long near its truth.

■ Lily System

A “Lily” is a reliable, beautiful heroine that fights alongside Alushe. You can choose a Lily to fight against fiends alongside Alushe according to the situation. Doing so will deepen your bonds with the Lily, which will awaken new abilities and trigger bond-assuring events. Each available Lily changes the way you battle. Stay tuned, as numerous Lilys will be introduced from hereon.

—Liliana, whose existence is to be protected, can fight as a Lily. She can use her powers as a Saint to support Alushe in battle.

Nights-of-Azure_08-28-16_005.jpg

—Ruhenheid, who belongs to an organization that opposes the protagonist, can also fight as a Lily. Her emotion-transforming blade will prove beneficial against many types of enemy fiends.

Nights of Azure 2 Shares More On Battle Features And The Drama Between The Three Heroines. October 3, 2016 . 6:00am

Gust updated the official website of Nights of Azure 2, with another look at the game’s three heroines, along with some battle details on the “Lily” partners you’ll have in battle.

While hostile against each other, Alushe and Louenhide have mutual respect for each other. Meanwhile, Liliana keeps the pressure of being a shrine maiden to herself. As the three characters with different perspectives reunite, things are just about to get even more complicated between the trio.

Louenhide is shown grabbing Alushe by the arm as a way to keep her attitude in check, as the two remain silent with the sudden approach.

Liliana keeps the pressure of being a shrine maiden to herself. Knowing better, Louenhind kindly asks her if she’d like to talk about it.

In Nights of Azure 2, you’ll play as Alushe and get to pick a partner “Lily” to fight against demons. Both Liliana and Louenhide can also fight by your side as a Lily.

A Lily’s battle style varies according to their characteristics, and the way you fight demons greatly changes depending on which Lily you choose to have by your side. For example, a support-type Lily will help you go into battle with stability. Meanwhile, a Lily with high attack power will make it easier to plow through demons with ease.

Alushe and Louenhide might not get along at all times, but they se their differences aside during battle. This includes the Special Skills that activate while in a pinch, or a cooperative skill called “Double Chase.” There are unique Special Skills and Double Chase abilities for each Lily.

For example, Louenhide’s Double Chase pulls off a spin attack from her and Alushe that takes out all surrounding demons.

Louenhide also has a Special Skill called “Cover,” which lets her take damage for Alushe. This will come in handy while taking on powerful enemies.

Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon releases in Japan on December 22, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game is also headed Westward.

The woman that revived Alushe as a half-demon.

Gust has shared new information and screenshots of Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon, detailing a new Lily, named Camilla Arukado, joining the the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita action RPG, as well as some of the subordinate demons that will fight alongside you.

If you missed our previous reports on Nights of Azure 2, catch up here and here.

Get the new information below.
■ New Lily Introduction

Camilla Arukado

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_10-16-16_001.jpg

A woman doctor researching artificial half-demons. She has a look akin to cold observation, and is unshaken by things and a woman of plain remarks.

She is the genius who was able to revive Alushe as a half-demon after her heart was pierced by demons. She offers the hotel to Alushe and company as a base, but her real intentions for supporting her are unknown. When fighting alongside Alushe as a Lily, she uses a gun to battle fiends.

—As support for Alushe, Camilla will provide a variety of advice. Beyond her cold appearance and atmosphere is someone kind and emotional, and often warns Alushe, who tends to run wild, not to do so.

■ Fighting with Camilla

In Nights of Azure 2, you’ll fight battles alongside one Lily and two Servans. Camilla,

who uses a gun in battle, specializes in attacking from long distances.

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_10-16-16_003.jpg

Camilla’s gun can be switched between two modes by replacing the barrel. The surface is suppressed by the short barrel, and high-power precision shooting via the long barrel.

■ Your Connection to Servans and Their Roles
Most fiends have lost their sense of self and instinctively attack humans. However, among them are those that the blue blood of demons has not fully invaded, allowing them to keep their sense of self. Rescuing them from other fiends will allow them to join and fight alongside Alushe as subordinate demons called Servans, granting her even greater power.

Nero

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_10-16-16_005.jpg

Nero is a cat Servan adored by Alushe. Her relationship with Nero is deeper than that of any other Servan, and is connected to her past.

Shalf

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_10-16-16_006.jpg

Shalf is a wolf Servan. In battle he attacks with sharp fangs and electric shocks, and teases the enemy with his agile movements. Shalf’s electric shocks can also be used to solve puzzles.

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_10-16-16_007.jpg

Servans support Alushe in a different manner than Lilys. You can use the special abilities they each possess, use them as powerful equipment for Alushe, use them to open new paths, etc. They’ll play a role in various situations.

■ New Servan Introduction

Eil

Eil is a bird Servan who controls the flame that surround his body to attack and trifle with groups of enemies.

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_10-16-16_008.jpg

Additionally, as a Striker Servan, he’ll transform into a great sword. A sword basked in flames, it will set ablaze the enemies it strikes and deal great damage.

Additionally, by focusing your power, you can flare up the sword even more intensely and deal double the damage to enemies.

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_10-16-16_009.jpg

■ A Large Fiend that Possesses Great Power

There will be large-scale fiends that act as bosses on your way to the Queen of the Moon.

Unlike other fiends, these fiends posses great power, making cooperation with your Lilys and Servans is more important than ever. There are also mechanisms to weaken the boss during these boss stages, which by using well will give you the upper hand in battle.

If you missed our previous coverage of the upcoming action RPG, catch up here, here and here.

Get the new information below.
■ New Lily Introduction

Muveil Follin Roux

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_001.jpg

A senior knight who had an older sister-like relationship with Alushe. She has a cool personality, but also a passionate fighting spirit within her. Although strict when it comes to discipline and her subordinates, she is still admired by her lower ranks for her strength and kindness. She fought against fiends as a holy knight and as the first successful artificial half-demon, but fell to demons in the wake of a certain incident.

She has an allurement for Alushe that is unlike herself.

—Muveil, a holy knight who Alushe had admired. Her once solemn and kind face is no longer, and she stands before Alushe to lure her to the power and pleasure of demons.

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_002.jpg

■ Fighting with Muveil

Just like Alushe, Muveil fights using a blood sword as her weapon. With her ability to defeat brutal fiends as a holy knight, combined with the powers she received in becoming a demon, she has become brutally relentless.

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_003.jpg

Muveil and Alushe, who were commanding officer and subordinate in the same group of knights, are able to stand against a number of formidable enemies with their good coordination.

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_004.jpg

■ New Servans Introduction

Various types of familiars known as Servans appear in Nights of Azure 2, from “Strikers,” who are able to change form into powerful equipment, to “Tricker,” who are able to unleash special techniques.

Alice
A precocious doll who attacks using subordinate rabbit dolls summoned with her trumpet.

Although she assumes the air of an adult, she still can’t seem to hide her childishness as she arrogantly bosses around her rabbit dolls.

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_005.jpg

Alice is a Striker who can change into a mirror shield for Alushe. Even powerful magic attacks cannot be used against her.

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_006.jpg

■ Servan: Fighting with Feuille

Feuille, a fairy-type Servan, has a calm personality and loves to sleep.

She fights against fiends with Alushe so that she can turn the situation in her favor and quickly return to sleep.

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_007.jpg

Feuille is a Tricker that fights using flower petals, which are a natural offshoot of herself.

She also has abilities to protect her kind-hearted allies.

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_008.jpg

■ Liliana as a Lily

As a Saint, the well-trained Liliana fights against fiends by changing prayers to the sun into power.

Her natural ability to slow down time can save Alushe when she’s in a pinch.

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_009.jpg

■ Alushe’s Relation to Camilla
Camilla resurrected Alushe as a half-demon. Is her fixed concentration on Alushe due to interest in her as a study subject, or something else?…

Nights-of-Azure-2_10-30-16_010.jpg

■ Alushe and Lily Growth

Alushe can use the blood she acquires defeating enemies to level up.

This increases stats such as attack power and awards ability points, which can be used to learn abilities of your choice. As for Lilys, exclusive quests will become available when their “closeness level” reaches fixed amounts, which clearing will level them up.

Just like when Alushe levels up, they’ll gain stat boosts and learn new abilities.

■ First-Print Bonus: Puni Servan

The Puni monster from the Atelier series will join Nights of Azure 2 as a Servan with first-print copies of the game.

She takes interest in Alushe and appears whenever there is reason to. While she appears before Alushe unexpectedly, she seems to be looking for something. Her objective, however, is completely unknown.

—Alushe is vigilant before Christophorus, who suddenly appears out of nowhere, but Christophorus doesn’t mind and talks to her as if they were standing around chatting.

Alushe confines it to the demons that surround them, while Liliana chants the words of the saints.

The first Gust titles to come to PC.

Sophie-Nights-Azure-Steam-Ann.jpg

Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book and Nights of Azure are coming to PC via Steam on February 7, Koei Tecmo announced.

The two games will be the first titles from Gust, which in recent years has mainly developed for PlayStation platforms, to be released on PC.
Here’s an overview of each title:
.Nights of Azure
Marking a new action-oriented and dark direction for GUST titles, Nights of Azure tells a tragic tale of two friends faced with impossible decisions that will test their loyalty to their quest – and to each other. In the kingdom of Ruswal, very few people leave their homes after nightfall, let alone have the strength and skill to take on the powerful, azure-blooded demons that plague the island. One of the best among these brave few is Arnice, a knight of great skill and power, who is assisted by her friend and priestess Lilysse in a quest to rid the land of these monsters. However, they soon find out that the solution to the island’s problems might not be as simple as defeating enemies in battle. Nights of Azure was previously exclusive to the PS4 system.

■ Developing Your Subordinate Demons (Servans)

The subordinate demons that fight alongside Alushe will level up by using “Subordinate Demon Points” obtained when clearing quests. When leveling up, you can assign points to each parameter, including HP, attack strength, etc. to individually level up each subordinate demon.

Striker Subordinate Demon: Pitz
Pitz is a subordinate demon able to transform into a partisan. Before she transforms, she specializes in hit-and-away attacks from mid-range.

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_12-25-16_011.jpg

Striker Subordinate Demon: Eir

A subordinate demon able to transform into a great sword that deals big blows. Before he transforms, he specializes in multi-stage attacks that deal great damage.

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_12-25-16_012.jpg

Striker Subordinate Demon: Alice

A subordinate demon that transforms into a shield that can attack while defending. Before she transforms, she fights using a rabbit soldier that she summons.

Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_12-25-16_013.jpg

■ Subordinate Demon Evolution
When each parameter of a subordinate demon reaches a certain value, its appearance “evolves” and its parameters also rise. Additionally, if all of its parameters reach “MAX,” it is possible to perform a “reincarnation” in which their max level rises instead of them returning to Level 1.

■ New Subordinate Demons
Striker-Type Subordinate Demon: Dure
A subordinate demon reliable in any situation with its attack speed and the hits it unleashes from its large build. Since its attack range is narrow, it needs to get within close range of the enemy in order to attack.
Nights-of-Azure-2_2016_12-25-16_026.jpg

Dure can transform into a lance. Since it specializes in evasion and long-distance, you can fight with endurance.

Wielding her huge mixer hammer, she will support Alushe in battle as a Lily.

—Eleanor earns money as a merchant, but it’s all for the sake of chocolate. She is searching for the ultimate chocolate ingredients, as it is her greatest passion to make the ultimate chocolate.

The latest on Gust's upcoming action RPG.

Gust has released new information and screenshots of Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon introducing Valderossa, a spider-like demon that will block Alushe’s path, as well as more story elements, boss battles, cooperating with your Lily and subordinate demons, and developing your subordinate demons.

Get the details below.
■ Characters

Arnice, the “Nightlord” (voiced by MAO)

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_001.jpg

A girl who once ruled over demons as the “Nightlord” and suppressed the damage done to the people by the fiends. Now, however, due to her instincts as the Nightlord, she wanders through the night. If you meet the right conditions during a certain event, you’ll befriend Arnice as a Lily.

—Different from when she stood in Alushe and company’s way as a threat, Arnice shows a kind face. Her personality is unchanged from before, and she has a hidden passion within her.

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_002.jpg

Valderossa (voiced by Chiaki Takahashi)

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_003.jpg

A spider-like demon with a poisonous and bewitching atmosphere. She takes pleasure in infecting humans with poison, capturing them, and turning them into demons after they surrender.

—Valderossa reveals her natural, venomous, spider-like form. What is it that she says she hopes for…?

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_004.jpg

■ The Battle Against Valderossa

The spider-themed demon Valderossa uses a mix of spider-like attacks while preventing Alushe and the others from moving forward. If her voluptuous, yet dreadful atmosphere misleads you, you will be entangled in the blink of an eye.

—Here’s a rotating attack that utilizes Valderossa’s large build and legs. If the attack hits, Alushe’s small body will be blown away.

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_005.jpg

—In order to entangle Alushe, the spider-like Valderossa will spin webs around the battlefield.

She has a wide variety of attack methods, and can also cling to the ceiling and pounce down on Alushe.
Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_006.jpg

■ The Story of Girls Running Through the Darkness
Alushe, an agent of the Curia, loses her life in escorting her childhood friend and saint, Liliana, and is revived as a half-demon.

In order to find Liliana, who disappeared, Alushe has to fight against the dangers of the night.

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_007.jpg

Veruschka, a woman dispatched from the Lourdes Order, which is a group that opposes the Curia, attempts to put an end to Alushe with her dual daggers.

Veruschka’s relentless goal is not just instructed by the Order—she seems to have a serious hate for Alushe, who is a half-demon like herself.

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_008.jpg

Returning to the hotel, Camilla’s employee Eleanor Ernesto has arrived. Eleanor, who also does work as a merchant and is well connected, heard about Liliana, and shares the information Alushe wanted to hear—she may still be nearby.

Alushe hurriedly runs off.

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_009.jpg

‘I may be able to see Liliana again soon.’ Moving forward with that hope and desire beating in her chest, she encounters a huge demon blocking her path. To defeat the fiend and continue moving forward, Alushe swings her powerful blood sword to take down the powerful foe.

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_010.jpg

Overcoming the difficult road, Alushe finally reaches the figure she was searching for. In a garden of flowers, Alushe calls out to a girl basked in a fragile ambiance. Will she respond to Alushe’s call? Will this be the end of Alushe’s battle…?

■ Giant Enemies Blocks Alushe’s Path
During her journey, poweful demons and large-scale fiends will stand before Alushe as boss battles. Their large bodies and various special abilities are much stronger compared to other fiends, and if you are careless in the fight against them, you will quickly be defeated. When challenging these large fiends, working together with your Lily and subordinate demons is key.

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_011.jpg

When fighting a boss, they will sometimes have a variety of things to say to Alushe. They will sometimes have a haughty attitude that corresponds to their large builds, sometimes lead you astray, and other times agitate and make Alushe lose her composure. Bosses are of course not only different in personality and appearance, they also harass Alushe through unique and powerful attacks.

A Boss’ Special Attacks

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_012.jpg

By hiding its large body in the ground, the huge, fish-like fiend Jaw trifles with Alushe and the others while waiting for an unguarded moment to attack. In ways such as this, each large fiend has its own unique attack methods, which Alushe will have to ascertain for each one she battles.

Mechanics Useful During Boss Battles
There are certain mechanics in boss stages that will help in defeating demons and large-scale fiends. By using these mechanics skillfully, you’ll be able to proceed the battle with an advantage by dealing big damage to or weakening the boss.

—By breaking the barrels placed throughout the stage when it makes contact with the Jaws’ body, you’ll cover the boss in a flammable liquid. By burning the liquid with Nero’s subordinate demon action, you can set the boss on fire. You can use this unguarded moment while the boss is on fire to hit it with a slew of attacks.

Nights-of-Azure-2_05-28-17_013.jpg

■ Battles Against Fiends

The Basics of Battle
In her struggle to reach the “Queen of the Moon,” a great number of fiends will stand in Alushe’s path. While swinging her sword, Alushe will fight alongside her Lily and subordinate demons to defeat them.
—The basic battle screen. On the upper right is the dungeon mini-map, on the lower right is the combo count. On the upper left is Alushe’s HP, Lily Burst gauge, Lily HP, and Double Chase gauge, and on the lower left are instructions she can issue her allies.

Unleash powerful attacks while inserting commands with proper timing. Additionally, you can perform various combos, such as attacking the enemy with consecutive attacks while quickly moving around, that expand the breadth of battle. Also, combos further evolve through the use of weapons transformed from “Striker” subordinate demons.

Cooperative Attacks with Your Lily

By filling up the Double Chase gauge, you can trigger a Double Chase to perform a cooperative attack with your Lily.

Your Double Chase with Camilla, for example, will do damage to enemies within the effective range.

If you use Veruschka’s active skill, you can deal damage to several surounding enemies.

Since each Lily’s weapon and battle style vary, you should change up the Lily you take along depending on the stage to make clearing it easier.

The subordinate demons that Alushe can summon can unleash special attacks called subordinate demon actions.

The “Tricker”-type subordinate demon Shalf, for example, surrounds itself with balls of thunder that deal damage to enemies upon contact. Also, “Striker”-type subordinate demons can transform into weapons for Alushe.

Bosses have high HP and various attacks, making them difficult to overcome using only Alushe’s power.

By cooperating with your Lily and subordinate demons, you can unleash powerful attacks and defeat the boss.

■ New Subordinate Demons

Dump
Dump is a mechanical, golem-like, “Striker”-type subordinate demon that can transform into a pile bunker.

By equipping this large weapon, Alushe’s attack and movement speed will become slow, but her attack strength will be number one.

Peruru

Peruru is a plump, dolphin-like, “Tricker”-type subordinate demon. Contrary to its cute appearance, it has high-power projectiles. Even when you’re surrounded, Peruru makes it easy to regain your footing since its skills can be used to push back the enemy.

■ Freely Develop Your Subordinate Demons

By clearing quests, you will earn “Subordinate Demon Points” that you can use to level up the subordinate demons that fight alongside Alushe. By assigning points to four parameters—HP, MP, ATK, and SATK—you’ll be able to individually level up your subordinate demons.

—HP affects the subordinate demon’s physical strength, MP affects their special action time and use frequency, ATK affects their attack power, and SATK affects a Striker’s weapon attack power / a Tricker’s action power. For example, if you want to develop the Striker-type Eir that specializes in skills…

—By increasing the MP and SATK, Eir’s effect time and weapon power during weaponification will increase.

However, since its HP and ATK won’t increase, Eir’s attack power and HP outside of weaponification will remain the same.

—If you develop the Tricker-type subordinate demon Kaede, who originally has low HP and high MP, to specialize in physical strength…

—Then its attack power will increase and it will become a more reliable subordinate demon in battle. Through this repeated development, each parameter will eventually surpass a certain value, its appearance will “evolve,” and its parameters will further rise.

Additionally, by reaching MAX for all parameters, you can perform a “reincarnation” to return them to level one and expand its limit of development.
