I think the two choices on the poll still stand because Marvel doesn't have the rights to Spidey, Sony still does. Marvel can now use him, but Sony still has control...for now.
If you read the article carefully, while Sony might have final say in only the films that are released by Sony (they have no say in the MCU films), they pretty much axed their production team in place of Feige who will be driving most of this.
This just makes financial sense. They go with the proven team over their own failed producers, yet they still get a majority of the box office take on the films released under the Sony pictures name.
The corporate suits don't care what the story line is or who writes the script, they want to see cash flow, something that didn't happen on TASM2.
Yes Sony will own the rights to the character, it's still essentially the agreement that exists now. This is a win - win situation for both studios. What marvel gets is increased exposure, and Sony might actually have validity in the character, which is something that did not happen after TASM2.
Had nothing changed, what do you think the box office take for Sinister Six or TASM 3 would have been? You can rest assured it would have been a steady decline.
While nothing is guaranteed, they just tripled their chance of making Spider-man the billion dollar franchise it deserves to be.
