I'm surprised, I thought 2003 was pretty much the last year anything was released on VHS. Currently see it listed for $300 on Ebay lol.

I mean, some aspects of the gameplay definitely were a proto-version of what became the Arkham series.

The cancelled TDK game has a pretty interesting history.

I also never knew there was also a proposed TDKR game.

Honestly, it would be cool if one day they actually finished the trilogy as games. We've seen it happen after the fact with Matrix: Path of Neo and stuff like The Godfather game. You could finally flesh out how Bruce got back to Gotham and make that a whole mission!

Did anyone else have the script for this film a year or two before it came out?

I remember reading it either before or after the teaser trailer dropped. I loved it - it was so fresh and new, for Batman.

I still remember reading "Bhutanese Jail" and being shocked/confused - "Wait, Bruce Wayne isn't in Gotham, but in another country AND in prison?! Holy crap! Where are they going with this!"

This was a substantial leak that nobody really talks about. I can't imagine if a major film script leaked in full, nowadays.

For better or worse, it was probably one of THE most influential scores of the 2000s. It pretty much became the template for modern blockbusters.

As a whole Begins is quietly one of the most influential movies of the last 20 years. I would argue even more than TDK.

The fact that Bond took inspiration from Batman Begins for casino royale, along with TDK for Skyfall, speaks for itself. I just rewatched Batman Begins in 4k about 2 weeks ago to test out my new sound system. I honestly don't think I could ever get tired of the film, no matter how many times I watch it, just like with TDK, TDKR, and the Raimi Spider-Man films. I actually look at Begins as a comfort film of sorts. It's very inspirational, and much more than it's given credit for. From the opening moments of the bats forming the logo, and bruce falling down the well, cutting to Bruce waking up in that prison. The whole set up of the non linear story was the perfect direction to go in. God, i love that movie so much.


Also, speaking of, this is probably my favorite promotional image from Batman Begins. It speaks for itself.

I know totally what you mean with it being a comfort movie. Is goofy as it sounds, back in the day I used to put it on to fall asleep to all the time. I hope to see it on the big screen again someday.

Agreed. during the covid lockdown, a local theater ended up playing a bunch of old films, and Batman Begins was being shown so of course I had to go rewatch Batman Begins and even TDK on the big screen again. I hadn't see Batman Begins in theaters since the summer of 2005, and same for TDK in 2008. It was still just as awesome of an experience in 2020 as it was back in those days. actually, during my screening of TDK, a group of teens were sitting in front of me. The girl that was with them seemed uninterested as the movie was starting, and by the end, all of them were on the edge of their seats. Round of applause once it was over, which I thought was just awesome. Brought back memories of the standing ovation it got at thee midnight premiere in 2008.

As for my sound system, I mainly upgraded to a much better soundbar and subwoofer. I sort of underestimated how loud it was gonna be, but man Batman Begins had my living room rumbling. It's beautiful!

Every big budget movie after 2008 had to have their villains captured and then have him escape in an elaborate way. Remember Star Trek Into Darkness. Skyfall. The avengers. They were directly influenced by TDK.

The Joker movie had him wear makeup and nobody questioned the decision. Direct effect of TDK.

Notice how all big budget movies now have sections of their films shot in Imax? TDK baby.

So many IP’s tried to reboot and rebrand with the formula Nolan and Goyer used for their origin story film. Superman, Garfield’s Spider-man, Fantastic Four, Robin Hood (twice), Godzilla, Tomb Raider, even freaking Power Rangers all followed the Begins model of the gritty retold origin story, to mostly unsuccessful results.

You could attribute that influence to the trilogy as a whole, and that would be true, but the films are influential as individual pieces as well. Rises has had a more subtle but very important impact on the industry too, being the first to do the hard, definitive ending to a cinematic superhero story from which you can draw parallels to subsequent films like Logan and Endgame.

I found tasm bland and forgettable. Apart from the ending about how breaking promises is cool or something (wtf was that?).

the real crime was the sequel. Holy pumping crap was the sequel terribad. It was offensive and triggering.
