Wonder Woman 1984 General Discussion and Speculation

In the Lynda Carter WW TV series....when they switched her from being in WWII to the then modern day 1980's....Lyle Waggoner (Steve Trevor) was brought to the revamp as Steve Trevor Jr. (the son of the original character). I wonder if they would have Pine being a relative of their original Steve who happens to look a lot like him?

I see in the 2nd row #1 Larry Hagman as JR in 'Dallas' at the height of its popularity and #3 Christie Brinkley as the girl in a Ferrari passing Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Vacation (1983). In the bottom row, the last two looked like scenes from MT's (as MTV was originally called) music videos. I'm sure that the top 2 in the 1st row are scenes from some TV shows.

The top row screen with the blue triangles looks like it's from the opening credits for the short lived sci fi TV series THE PHOENIX (1981-1982) starring Judson Scott.

I don't like the new title for the movie. It just seems to lean heavily on the year it takes place in, can't the movie's marketing and trailer spell it out?

Wonder Woman 2 is much more succinct.

Trevor is wearing the obvious (to me) 1980s Members Only jacket. His fashion screamed 1980s as I used the wear similar set-up as him along with a Ray-ban aviator glasses. lol

Wondering who Pedro Pascal is playing. He is one of the main cast apart from Gadot, Whig and Pine. I don't think that we will know about his role until the trailer dropped, unless it got leaked.

I think that's the point. The cold war angle and all.

I actually hope all the future sequels continue this on.

Wonder Woman 1991! Wonder Woman 2001! Wonder Woman 3000!

With the look of this movie I'm half expecting pedro to have a shell suit, mullet and porn stache.

If this just some type of illusion in her mind then fine. But if it isn’t then bringing Trevor back sure as hell cheapens the last movie. Not liking this imagery.

No way would Diana imagine Steve wearing a bum bag. That totally dispels the "dream/imagination" theory.

I don't care about Steve Trevor, or the how and why. It's clear he's alive in a reversal fish-out-of-water role, so I'm worried his presence will detract from Diana/Barbara's relationship. The film should foremost be about a powerful bond between two women and the tragedy that follows. Think Black Mirror's "San Junipero" episode.

I'm also worried we'll have both the tragedy of Cheetah and Steve Trevor once again dying (since per the first film, he's not alive in present day). I don't think either benefits from the other.

I was thinking about that bath scene in Themyscira. It could be a variation on the Lazarus Pit.

I don't think that it's 'real' Steve Trevor and it's possibly someone brought back with a form of magic.

I don't know if it was at the height of its popularity in 1984. The most famous cliffhanger ending ever for Dallas, and which has continued to be iconic to this day is "Who Shot JR?" which was in 1979-80. That's when Dallas was absolutely huge.

The 1984-85 season was when Bobby Ewing died at the end. That was Season 8. Then it went to Season 9 which was the dream season and where it jumped the shark.

I mean, the 1983-84 season did have Bobby Ewing getting shot, but that wasn't quite as popular as "Who Shot JR?". I think Dallas had already peaked before then.

I can’t think of any explanation to his return that doesn’t ruin the emotional arc of the first movie. Really not liking this idea now.

It only dispels the idea that Diana is the source of the dream. Someone else could be creating an illusion or manipulating Diana's mind to convince her she's seeing Steve again.

The 'Who shot JR' moment was indeed its peak, just not overall popularity.

IIRC, Dallas was the most watched TV series from 1980 to 1983 before Dynasty in 1984 and The Cosby Show from 1985 to 1989.

I would assumed that Wonder Woman 84 covered not only 1984 but also some of the 1980s period.

An illusion is the only thing that makes any sense and I have to believe that’s what it is. The grandson idea is honestly a dumb cop out in order to bring back Pine, and him being resurrected just makes the last movie completely pointless. If it is him then, like, what the actual ****? Did they not watch their own movie?

Dammit, I went to that mall yesterday where that was filmed and saw zero signs of activity. Just that collection of 80’s cars and military vehicles and almost no security.

There is a small possibility that Steve Trevor is brought via magic by Circe. The latter has ability to transform reality and matter including reviving the dead and teleportation.

Dreaming him up wearing a bum bag is just cruel. Maybe he IS there to torture Diana after all.... with his fashion.

For some strange reason, with these 80s set pics, I am getting the sneaking suspicion that they are going to the Jamie Foxx/Electro route with Cheetah & Kristen Wiig is going to look something like this:

A lot of people on this site have read comics that provide like, a dozen explanations for how Steve Trevor could be in the 1980's. Yet everyone is immediately going "Wait! How?" Which is the reaction Patty probably wanted.

That said, I don't think this is an illusion.

I think it's magic of some kind.

And I'll bet her time with him is limited somehow.

That's will be far from how Wiig will be portrayed. This isn't Marc Web's film, instead you need to get into Patty Jenkins' style of film.
