Clark was better than the Legionnaires on making the right call, not giving up hope.... another thing is not flying or using "tights", but that will happen once he becomes Superman, which is by the end of the series unfortunately. That's why I think it should end this season, but it seems there's going to be a S9, so one more year for Clark to be Supes. :whatever:

I personally hope they either green light S9 and officially call it the last season... or finish with 8.

They just need to make a decision, so that the pacing and conclusion of the series are everything that an SV fan, Comic fan and Tv fan could want. They just need to make a decision on when the show is going to end.

otherwise the show will once again begin to feel like earlier season, wherein, it felt often enough like they were serving only appatizers merely to extend the series in hopes of milking the cash cow until it's litterally dead. They really need to get to the main course, and dessert... the things that have been waited for for 7 years.

as for 'what the story is about', by the end of S8, we will have had eight years of becoming. It's getting a little old, and producers should know this. They should be kicking this show in the guts. It's always better to end strong, than burn out by over extending the life of the series. I thought we had reached that point years ago... THANK THE GODS for the new production team this year.

Personally, I hope they go this route: Finish of season 8, and then go into a 10 episode season 9, wherein the final smallville chapter can be really concentrated on.

While I understand the show is supposed to be about "a boy deciding to be a hero", it doesn't even look like Clark's giving it any consideration. Anytime somebody suggests he step up to the plate, he just goes "Hyuck, I need to get back to the farm and feed my cows. Hyuck hyuck, but I'll save anybody within Kansas state lines though!"

If he doesn't realize that the world needs him after defeating Doomsday(a global threat), then Idk what'll push him over the edge. Maybe Grodd needs to eat Martha :o

I'd ****in' die laughing if that happened. :woot: Guy seriously needs to get over himself and start using his powers for good instead of just what he happens to stumble upon. It's awfully selfish when you come to think about it.

especially since every tom dick and harry now has powers.

he could just claim to be a meteor freak accident, the fact he's an alien wouldn't even come up...

Facing Doomsday better push him to the edge.

This is what I never got about the Lana plot, why not just tell Lana he had meteor freak powers way back when. It 100% believable and he didn't have to tell her part 2 of the equation.

Anytime somebody suggests he step up to the plate, he just goes "Hyuck, I need to get back to the farm and fix my barn. Hyuck hyuck, but I'll save anybody within Kansas state lines though!"

Fixed it for you. God I cannot even begin to fathom how many times they've had scene in that barn where someone or something gets thrown through the stairs/railing, and you'll see Clark out there fixing the barn in the next few shots.

It's been like that since season one, and it's still happening (IN THIS EPISODE!)

What show are you watching

Same one we're all watching, I'm sure. The guy isn't exactly patrolling the streets and fighting the good fight. It's pretty much whatever shows up outside his window. It's pretty much the equivalent of receiving billions of dollars and then leaving it in the bank instead of helping starving kids in Africa. Yes, I know most of us would probably do the same or even spend it on a mansion or something but that's what's supposed to make Superman different from the rest of us. When guys like Oliver Queen/Green Arrow are showing the guy with superpowers how to be a better superhero, something is up.

EVERYONE in that show shows up Clark. Lana and Chloe (before her super powers, ya know, like season 3 where she was all the sudden this brilliant hacker) did, Lois does all the time, every other hero on the show does it whenever they're around.

I don't want to see the Smallville Clark end up as Superman, because he'll be such a useless whiney mopey ***** that he won't do anything. Much rather have him and Doomsday kill each other and that marks the end of the series.

You must have missed the fact that Clark sits in the Daily Planet at night listening to police radios so that he can go save people. It's not exactly as effective as flying above the city using super hearing, but it's sure as hell not waiting for threats to come to him.

Facing Doomsday better push him to the edge.

That's be the only legit reason for bringing such a "Superman" level villain into the Smallville-verse. Have that fight be the event that makes him take this whole superhero thing more seriously. Maybe not quite putting on a cape and flying around toen but join G.Arrow's League or something at least.

That barn is top priority lol

I actually did completely miss that fact.

So he stops the occasional mugger? Jor-El would be so proud lol.

Metropolis would be Gotham right now if it wasn't for Clark.

So personally, I think hes doing a pretty good job.

I would rather have a depowered Martian Manhunter patrolling my town than Clark lol. Unless I lived in a barn, then I'd be very well protected.

Why all the hostility?

Once he starts protecting the planet and flying around he's Superman and the show's ended already...

Maybe that's frustrating to some people, but I'm liking the show now more than ever so I'm happy as a clam.

We'll see if they give us another year, but I have no serious complaints about this ep.

I hope the show keeps going!!!!! 9, 10, 11 seasons... the MORE the better!!!!!!!

All I have to say to those who want to END the show in hopes of glimpsing Clark in tights and a cape is... how short-sighted can you be!? (Actually, that's cleaning up what I'd REALLY like to say...)

Metaphorically speaking, you've got a "golden goose" here and as long as you don't KILL it we can keep enjoying golden shows... I mean eggs! (For the young and poorly educated... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Goose_that_Laid_the_Golden_Eggs )

Sheeze!! How hard it that to understand!?

I loved the ep but the guy who played lightning lad needs acting lessons.

I can agree, and I see no rational reason for it within the context of the show.....

The thing is in the continuity of the show he should be Superman, he knows the world, not just Metropolis and it's suburb Smallville needs him. He's got basically all the powers except one, one that he knows he has, but is unwilling to learn how to use. He's working at the Daily Planet. Watching the show it just feels like he's twittling his thumbs waiting for the production to end before becoming who he needs to be. He just doesn't feel like the noble hero he's supposed to be. I totally agree with Colossal Spoons, it's been 8 years give us Superman already, not the farm boy.

But you realize that once he becomes Superman, the show is over, right?

The series has never, ever been better.

So, I'm willing to see where else they'll go with Clark and company next season if they keep this level of quality up.

If they jump the shark, I'm still going to watch, but I don't see them doing that yet.

If they do have a 9th season, hopefully they can do it gracefully, so they don't have some lame-ass season ender this year. I think Arctic sorta failed because of the open-endedness and the hacked up end of the season they had.

If they know going into the final set of episodes that there will be one more season, I doubt it will happen.

I hope they give us one more year, if not, this year being the last would work too.

They'd seriously go out on a high note.

:facepalm

What a whiney mopey post indeed... "he won't do anything", "I don't want him to be Superman" gaaaaah.... Please, he has done a lot thru out the years, like saving the world from Zod, Brainiac, the phantoms, etc, etc.... And yes, he will be Superman in the end, he's getting there, like it or not. If you hate it so much, then you should know what to do to stop your "pain".

well clark is being more patroling this season and has helped out lots of people and isnt sitting in the farm all the time like season 5-7.
