Henry Cavill IS Superman: The Official Thread

Wow. Cavill turned into a celebrity in a day. Just check how many videos on youtube popped out of the blue. He better be ready for all this notoriety. I mean, ITS SUPERMAN, DAMITT!!!

*sigh*

Excel, we all know this film is getting a mid-December 2012 release. Which is either December 14 or December 21st. Hopefully 12/21, since WB had luck with the same weekend before with Sherlock Holmes and that date will be almost exactly 5 months after TDKR hits theaters.

Plus, the Christmas date allows it to get a steady stream of business for the next two weeks.

Well since the world IS going to end on December 21st, 2012 :-)whatever:), I am hoping that the release it on the 14th. That way we AT LEAST get a Superman movie before we all die. :woot:

I hate the whole bumbling aspect of Clark Kent. I tried watching Superman the movie (which I've never done as an adult) and I really liked it right up until the Clark Kent in Metropolis. I literally turned it off in disgust.

I think he must have a terrific attitude too.

I mean, if you had been rejected for the role previously (perhaps even a number of times) I think it shows great character to keep going for it.

Hell, the dude probably knows he's perfect for Kal-El.

I'm still excited about this casting, after all these hours.

I've not posted this frequently on here since TDK's Pre-production. :wow:

The TDK virals were my busiest time on here, too! :woot: It was insane. Even though I can't afford to be online for hours and hours every day, I sure hope the Superman forums will now get the same hype and numbers of visitors when TDK was coming out. The hysteria was EPIC. You know how we crashed SHH because of those virals, thousands of fans posting on the boards at the same time, when the viral games were going live? Those were the times.

I hope it's the same or at least similar when the Superman trailer comes out and if we get a Superman viral! I'd stuff myself with chocolate and other sugary things just to keep me going! I want another experience like that because it feels incredible. Wooo! Gotta say, my excitement would be much lower if Henry wasn't Superman. <3

Any you'd recommend? My head is going to explode from all the awesomeness any minute now. This has been such a fantastic day, I'm still over the Moon.

*hugs her Superman poster and new Alex Ross artbook*

Folks...it turns out there was a major typo in the announcement. It's not CAVILL who's been cast. It's CARELL. Wow. Talk about embarrassing.

God, those were the days! I remember everybody going insane and trying to get their friends to go on the Joker site so one little pixel could be removed.

Yeah, likewise!

I think that you tube video is no longer, I have been searching for it for a while, too bad because it was a great video. Maybe whomever made it will post it again.

matthew goode was close to being cast as superman but i think he would be an awesome brainiac just from what ive seen of him in watchmen. But really stoked that cavill has the part.

I JUST got back from work and read the news! AAAAHHHH! I literally thought this had no chance of happening!

*does the Dance of Joy*

This casting makes officially SO excited for this project now. So I shall give credit where it's due: Thank you, Snyder. I was thoroughly disappointed when you were named director, but now I'm rooting for you all the way. Go make the best damn movie you've ever made.

showtime, when will we be getting an official release date??

No idea when we'll get it, but as McClay said, looking at the 14th or the 21st, unless they go the 19th...which is possible.

Wonder what Brandon Routh must be thinking, relieved that the pressure is off him or upset that he wasn't given a second chance? and will he give Cavill his blessing?

Very few actors dream of that once in a lifetime role and Superman's success could be a curse or a blessing for Cavill if he doesn't pick careful roles that don't get him typecast.

I’m also glad Nolan, Snyder and WB’s didn’t fall into that ignorant trap of thinking they can ONLY cast an American in the role of Supes.

That’s utter BS and Cavill simply beat out the American actors that were in contention and tested for the role like Armie Hammer and Joe M.

My personal two favorites who I felt should have been targeted for the role were Cavill and Hammer. Glad they went with Cavill since he is older than the 23 year old Hammer and has paid his dues.

The time is NOW for him to be Superman!

:supes:

The Hobbit release date is December, 19th, 2012, isn't it?

Its just me or Warner release 2 big movies so close to each other will probably hurt one of them (if not both)?

Showy,

Do you think this is the last we have heard of Mr Goode as far as this MOS film goes?

I suspect not. He tested for both Nolan and Snyder according to reports and I'm sure both were impressed with him if he truly was the runner up to Cavill. Plus Snyder worked with him before on Watchmen.

I can see Goode still being under consideration for the roles of either Lex Luthor, Braniac, The Eradicator or even General Zod IF any of those characters wind up in the film.

Well I just caught a little bit of the SAG's on TBS and as they panned by Armie he looked like, " F%$K this S%#T! all I can think about is how I missed out on being Superman. I only found out this morning, and I'm stuck here having to be Mr rah rah my fellow actors smiley face dammit". I could have misread his expression as I only saw him for a second lol.

I might celebrate by playing my Superman Returns CD. One of the best things about the film IMO, and strangely enough, playing it to celebrate Cavill's casting seems appropriate.

I suspect The Hobbit will be either moved up to a November Thanksgiving release or more than likely pushed back to a Summer of 2013 release date.

There have been a crap load of delays when it comes to the production with The Hobbit so far and Peter Jackson has a semi serious condition right now. We'll how it goes though for The Hobbit.

Jamie thinks that The Hobbit Part 1 isn't going to make its December 2012 release date. An 18 month schedule for a two-film shooting, plus 3D cameras and extensive visual effects. More likely it'll be December 2013 and December 2014.
