I'm thinking that we may have a mix of villains maybe a power struggle or alliance. Lots of ways I'm sure they could go about it.
Personally, I think the Sith are behind it. The big bad if you will. But that won't be apparent from the start. Like you said a mix of villains. Dark siders, Mandos, some bad ass techo Storm troopers, etc.

I think we are headed more back to the idea from the OT. Where the dark side of the Force does not equal the Sith. Remember Vader and the Emperor were never identified as Sith. Vader was actually associated with the Jedi in Star Wars.

Dark side "witches" is an idea that suits it.

Vader was called the "Dark Lord of the Sith" in the A New Hope novelization.

But that's the novelization. The term 'Sith' was never used in the original films. It probably DID exist but not on film.

Sure. I'm not saying otherwise. Merely pointing out that Vader was a Sith prior to the prequels.

No he wasn't. Novels do not equal the films. Just read the family info in RotJ novel.

Your point? Lucas changes his mind about when he created the movies. We known this. Regardless, Vader was indisputably meant to be a Sith in the OT as Vader having this title obviously came from Lucas himself.

The term Sith always existed, even back during the 70s Darth Vader was being billed as a dark lord of the sith in sinopsis. It's even stated in this interview

Making Star Wars - STAR WARS: EPISODE VII IS ABOUT A SEARCH?

...........

I could spend all day writing about how this does or does not interface with the sea of rumors that have been swirling about Star Wars: Episode VII from the last few months. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were said to be the only cast members on the Abu Dhabi set. The main rumors we were hearing where that Ridley’s character has been living on the planet for a very long time and leaves after the first act of the film with John Boyega’s character who actually might start off bad and turn good or used to be an imperial but is now a defector. In a way it seems weird to think she would leave the planet to help Han Solo find Luke Skywalker, but we clearly don’t have all the pieces here.

Badass Digest - Harrison Ford’s Bone Density Loss Could Be Oscar Isaac’s STAR WARS EPISODE VII Gain

............

I had heard that Solo is the star of this Star Wars and that the old smuggler would be taking the new kids on a journey across the galaxy to find an old friend who had gone missing.

I think the whole
"search for Luke"
thing was/is an old rumor from the Michael Arndt draft from last year. If it is still in play, that premise remained unchanged with the change of writers. Except I guess Ford's role got pumped up a bit?

Ya, **************.net did say that there is no change to the screenplay, possibly just some action sequences and small beats that may have Oscar instead of Harrison. But so many of these rumors are basing off of the unknown right now.

And having it where Han is the main out of the three, I think it would be very possible that Luke may be a McGuffin of some sort, and the one they are searching for, since he seems to have a slightly smaller role. It would be cool to have them looking for the Jedi Master.

Though I wonder if some wires have been crossed about what changed. Originally back in September I remember the rumor was that the change went from Han to Luke. But now we have learned that actually Han is more of the lead. So it really is hard with what little we know what the changes were from Ardnt’s script to Kasdan/Abrams.

Star Wars: Episode VII: Dude, Where's My Skywalker?

I noticed that Disney replied to the Oscar getting his role beefed up thing, saying it's 100% not true.

As for the Kimmel SW thing I have no idea. I did notice that Phillip Silvera concept fights for Episode VII has been deleted.

Star Wars bosses deny beefing up Oscar Isaac's role in Ford's absence

Disney studio bosses behind STAR WARS: EPISODE VII have denied reports suggesting director J.J. ABRAMS is expanding actor OSCAR ISAAC's role in the highly-anticipated movie after an on-set injury forced HARRISON FORD out of action.

The veteran movie star, the original Han Solo, is facing up to six months of rehab after breaking his leg during filming at Pinewood Studios in England on 12 June (14). Shooting has continued in Ford's absence, and Abrams was said to have reworked the storyline to give Isaac more screen time. Details about the Inside Llewyn Davis star's character have yet to be revealed, but reports suggest he plays a descendant of Solo. A source tells the New York Post, "They are now beefing up Oscar's role to be bigger with Harrison injured."

However, a representative for Disney has shut down the rumors, stating, "This is categorically not true." Studio chiefs previously insisted Ford's injury would not affect the filming schedule, with the movie still expected to hit movie theaters in December, 2015.

interesting about Boyega's character possibly starting bad, and Daisy possibly being on that desert planet for a long time.

and about the plot being the search for Luke.

if true, of course.

MAKING STAR WARS - PLOT RUMORS ABOUT JOHN BOYEGA’S CHARACTER IN STAR WARS: EPISODE VII!

Heavy speculation and possible spoilers below.

A friend of ours has confirmed the obvious, John Boyega is playing “Thomas” and Daisy Ridley is playing “Rachel.” Those are code names from the casting call, not the names used in the film. We will hopefully have those character names sooner than later.

Yesterday we touched upon the rumor that John Boyega’s character is said to be an imperial of some kind. For this piece we will discuss John Boyega and Daisy Ridley’s characters by their audition names of “Thomas” and “Rachel.” The rumor is really making the rounds right now that he starts off as an evil trooper or pilot of some kind. The rumor is so rampant we are not ignoring it even though it is unconfirmed. We are kind of starting to potentially see through some ambiguity. Still, things are murky as ever. Lets consider this piece speculatory, but informed. It is more than a shot in the dark, but it is less than confirmed. So once again, we are sharing something that might make a lot of sense, but could be somewhat circumstantial at the same time.

We have heard that Thomas starts the film on the side of the villains. Thomas is shot down over Tatooine and he is injured from the crash. The things we heard from Abu Dhabi about a crashed ship is rumored to have been Thomas’ fighter. Rachel rescues him from the wreckage and the elements of the sandy planet. Over the course of their “unlikely pairing,” Thomas sees the reality of the universe and he defects from the side of the villains and decides to help Rachel for saving his life. However, things are not easy for the character because unlike most of the rebels we’ve met in the series, none were traitors, they were always on the side of right from the beginning. However, it appears Rachel and Thomas have an innocent flirtation in their first film with hints at romance in the future episodes.

I often hear Thomas is a Jedi in the film, but I am beginning to think he might start that journey midway through Star Wars: Episode VII, which is why he has a lightsaber according to many reports. We have never heard Thomas has a lightsaber during the Abu Dhabi sequences, but we have heard set reports from Pinewood that he fights with two hands on his saber, without much of the prequel style flash of a one handed Obi-Wan Kenobi. It makes me wonder if Thomas and Rachel’s characters discover they share the same propensity for the Force that has so far been untapped until they meet a certain old Jedi in the second act of the film.

Ya I don't think he is. Those rumors were I think pretty unfounded.

Those plot rumors might be ******** but I like them.

yeah. I like them overall, too.

and I'm really starting to get the feeling that Daisy's character, if she is indeed the Solo daughter, she is either kept ignorant of her lineage and Force potential. or, she is aware but for whatever reason she is forced to hide/conceal it.

and maybe the reason Daisy's character is on [BLACKOUT]Tatooine[/BLACKOUT] is because she is [BLACKOUT]already searching for Luke[/BLACKOUT]. And while there, that's where she [BLACKOUT]rescues and meets Boyega's character.[/BLACKOUT]

If she isn't a Solo/Skywalker I am going to be so disappointed. If she really is on Tatoonie from the the start, and has been for a while, hopefully it is because of something family or Jedi related.

That would not disappoint me one way or the other. Only thing that disappoints me is that she has not called back after our wonderful date.
