James Bond: 007 - Spectre - - Part 11

Did I say "rape?" Funny, I don't recall doing so. I said that both scenes were creepy and awkward, not automatically the same thing.

You're the one that said "forces himself on her".

With this movie, it's even worse. First of all, it's right after she buried her husband and nearly got killed herself. Then Bond admits to her that he was the one who killed her husband, and THEN he forces himself on her, and again it's played as sexy and not creepy, ugh.

So is that rape or consensual...because there is no middle.

Off topic: "creepy" is so overused it has lost all meaning.

On topic: I like Spectre a lot, Craig is my favorite Bond and I would be sad if he quits. I think he's got one more in him.

Bond's always been a bastard. He's not meant to be this pillar of morality. Even Roger Moore's Bond is a dick. That's who the character is.

Absolutely. Hell, The Spy Who Loved Me (novel) basically ends with someone pointing out to the female protagonist that Bond was much of a bastard as the two villains he saved her from. He's not really a character people should try and emulate or idealise.

Craig disagrees.

Craig turned down a £68 million deal to play Bond again:

Daniel Craig has told studio bosses he is ‘done’ playing 007, sources claim.

The news comes just days after bookmakers called off bets on Cambridge-educated Tom Hiddleston becoming the next James Bond.

Insiders said Craig turned down a £68million offer from MGM studio to return as Bond for two more films following last year’s hit Spectre. The sum included endorsements, profit shares, and a role for him working as a co-producer.

One LA film source said: ‘Daniel is done – pure and simple – he told top brass at MGM after Spectre. They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn’t what he wanted.’

He added: ‘He had told people after shooting that this would be his final outing, but the film company still felt he could come around after Spectre if he was offered a money deal.’

One source said that executives had finally agreed to let the actor go after growing tired of his criticism of the franchise.

Craig, 48, told interviewers last year that he would rather ‘slash my wrists’ than agree to another Bond film.

Craig has been plagued with a knee injury sustained filming a Spectre fight scene.

The source said: ‘With knee problems and general exhaustion, he felt it was a journey with an ending.’

Hopefully they replace him with someone that doesnt act like playing Bond makes them want to slit their wrists with broken glass.

This.

This franchise established early on that Bond flat out uses people when he wants/needs to.

Yep. As Roger Moore has said, unless otherwise officially stated, Craig is the incumbent Bond. Craig will be back, I feel. Especially if the movie is out in 2018. He'll have a gap year for 2016 and get back into action when he's required. There's no rush at the moment.

I don't mind if Craig comes back or not, I do mind who writes the next script. If they bring back whoever it was crapped out Spectre, I'll be skipping the first Bond movie in theaters since Golden Eye.

1) this is old news Marv

2) BBC insists that these reports are, for lack of a better word, horse****

Well ****. There goes my excitement. Hopefully Craig really is telling them no and EON is just trying to keep it from going public. Craig seemed bored as **** in Spectre and with his comments im just over his Bond. Let the curmudgeon go and get some new less surly blood into the role.

I'm sad... I really wished Craig's Bond would have been the first to 'end' it's timeline with either a death of Bond or a 100% retirement plot.

We'll never get that chance again, I feel. His was the best chance we ever had for them to nut up.

I don't think he was bored in Spectre (I actually thought he was very funny and relaxed), but you do have to remember that Craig was almost permanently crippled whilst filming and that delayed production. He assumed he was ok and tried to continue, but then it appeared to get worse later on and he required major surgery. I could see why that would sour his excitement for the role and why he spoke as he did at the time.

If he does come back for Bond 25, then they have all the pieces in play to do the Ian Fleming novel that he wrote as his planned "finale" for the series. I know Michael G Wilson and John Logan both love the novel, so if the stars align...

There's no question that he has reason to be sour about it, but with what happened during SPECTRE's production, I would think that would be even more reason for EON to find a new Bond. Due to Craig's injury, the permanent damage and pain and difficulties it causes, and Craig's growing tiredness of the role EON needs to probably bite the bullet and get a new Bond. They hung onto Moore way past the Sell By date and that didnt do the franchise any favors. Essentially strong arming Craig into the role for 1 or 2 more films just doesnt seem like a good idea. If he enthusiastically wants to return then I can see why they'd want to let him, but I just hope that they arent pressuring him into returning simply because they dont want to have to deal with recasting. If Craig doesnt want to return I hope they will let him go instead of throwing tons of money at him. Craig doing another film solely for the paycheck really isnt what this franchise needs after Spectre.

I can't make any statements on what Craig does and doesn't want to do, but I think if EON are going where I think they're going with story, then it might be suitable to have Craig back for one last go. Not saying they should or even could force him to return if his heart truly wasn't set on it, but I can understand why they might feel it necessary for him to return for a final act.

Just think if this guy wouldn't have listened to his dumb agent and instead accepted his 7 Bond film offer from Cubby Broccoli and Harry Salzman

Let's be thankful that that didn't happen and we got a far better Bond in Roger Moore instead.

Matt Bomer or Henry Cavill. Cavill needs franchise before Snyder ruins his acting career. And Bomer would be nice choice overall

***** very believably plays a straight man on White Collar, but I can already hear the whining about Bond being played by a gay actor. Plus he's not British.

He needs something that expands his range of emotion. He always comes off as wooden in scenes

Even Roger Moore was rough around the edges in his first go round. He learned to grow into the role. No reason why Lazenby couldn't have done the same.

I wiwsh people would stop taking the slit wrists comment out of context, he says it after every Bond, he always means at that moment in time he doesnt want to jump straight back into another one, he likes time off between them due to the grueling training he takes for them and the action sequences

Exactly. And seriously, the amount of people willing to jump on the guy that has given us arguably the two best bond films ever made surprises me. If he's tired and wants to go, let him go, but if he does come back I say good for him too. He's still the most interesting Bond in my book, and I would love to see him do one more outing with a better script.

I think the main issue with Cavill is he is concentrating too much on the accent.

There is a reason he was second to Craig all those years back. If he does't land oo7, i sur elope he lands oo4, 5 or even 6

I think they have a three film arc planned, which started with SPECTRE. Thus they offer Craig two more films. I assume they are now working out if they restructure the plot to just one more film, or if they cast a new Bond. Setting something up with Bond 25, and then carrying it on with a new guy wouldn't be ideal.
