Anna Borden and Ryan Fleck are the Directors

I'm so glad to see most people here have common sense and have given it some thought before posting. The people who desperately try to find a problem are the minority and that is very encouraging. I have seen two of their movies and i liked both and they seem to work great as a team, captain Marvel is female-driven project and 90% of the major contributors re women. The discussion should end on this note.

As I said I'm okay with it but I do understand where the people disappointed (well, half-disappointed) with this choice are coming from. Just the other day in another thread we had someone saying that hiring women to direct female-led movies is a gimmick, but besides Wonder Woman when exactly has that ever happened?

Pettiness, pure and simple. Both the writers are female, the main star is, and half of the directing team is. More female creative talent driving this then Wonder Women. Next.

Not familiar with their work but congrats to them on landing the job. Can't wait to see what they bring to the screen.

It took 21 films and even that she is co-directing, but still cool nonetheless.

Yeah true. But it's fair game, I expect Loki and others to really start hitting the X-boards and Star Wars boards hard with this now that Marvel has hired a women. Your turn.
I've complained about Star Wars before. I complained about Joss Whedon being hired to direct Batgirl. I'm a fan of Marvel's films and I look forward to Captain Marvel but I'm not the kind of fan that just accepts everything Marvel does. I have no idea if you are but I'm not.

Fair enough, I understand where your coming from, but I think Joss will make an amazing film. We also need to get out of the mindset of the female character = female director cycle and just hire more qualified females regardless, like Marvel wanted to do with Black Panther.

I understand Marvel being the big dog and shouldering the responsibility, but I think people complaining, seriously complaining about this should check themselves a little. Especially if viewed with greater context. There is more female creative talent driving this bus then WW.

They wanted to hire a black person who was nominated an oscar for a black superhero. And the only reason she didnt take the job was IMO because she would get almost zero creative control. I bet she asked them if she could direct a female superhero.

I think it would be amazing if a woman was hired to direct the non female-led superhero film again.

And I am fine with at least one director being a woman in this duo. I don't hate this choice but yes I did side eye it and I still am.

Sounds like fan speculation based on I don't know what. If you think that's the case then so be it. I'm not inclined to change your mind.

The path to a normal hollywood is to give female directors female superheros. in 10 years when everything normalizes and everyone realizes that woman are as good as men they can again hire based on ''best pitch'' and ''best person'' for the job. IMO

Hope so. Ida Lupino was making great Noirs in the 40's. Kathryn Bigelow, Claire Denis, Lynn Ramsay and others have already demonstrated clearly to me that they can handle anything as well as men.

Ridiculous imo Out of the 7 main behind the scenes roles 4 are women

Anna Boden
director

Victoria Alonso
executive producer

Nicole Perlman
screenplay

Meg LeFauve
screenplay

Give a mouse a cookie....

Yeah, just like Alan Taylor had the "best pitch" for TDW, just like Loius Letterrier had the best pitch for TIH, etc. See that's the difference here, you equate "Marvel hired them" with "they must have had the best pitch." I don't give Marvel that much credit, their previous track record doesn't give me much reason to.

And yeah, I have noted the WW writing issue before. BUT, WB is still moving faster in this regard than Marvel has.

I quite like that Marvel doesn't pander to the SJWs as much as DC does to be honest. They probably understand that the ideological demands of the media do not represent their audience as a whole.

They already worked with Anthony Mackie, it'd be kind of cool to see him pop up in this. If not, definitely Rhodey.

Yeah I would've like to see them try and pass off a White Director for Black Panther. The backlash would've been incredible

Whoever is triggered I guess.

Well your opinion is pretty much baseless seeing as Coogler practically has full control over what he wanted to do with BP and the people he wanted to bring in to work on it; many of the key crew being women.

It gets very weird when we discuss control in regards to the MCU. Ava and Edgar Wright both seemed to part ways due to something they probably wanted to do that was to be honest, almost too farfetched with their respective movies probably. James Gunn was the exception to the rule, mostly because of how weird GOTG already was.

No director is going to get full control when you're dealing with a movie that costs 150 to 200 million. And that's fine with me I think it's unrealistic to expect these directors to have full control.

Good to finally have directors. We were due.

A dude being co-director is no problem.
