Not one person I know who saw that cut enjoyed it. I would not be surprised if a little disinformation from the studio accounted for the positive reports. As shocking as it may seem that sort of thing happens occasionally in this otherwise completely honest industry.

This one is fairly obvious but someone having read the comics and being a fan does not and should not automatically equal quality filmmaking. If that were the case we all should be able to make a better movie than Bryan Singer. Fat Chance.

Coincidentally, Daredevil superfan Mark Steven Johnson also delivered a subpar Fox film.

That said I've always doubted Kinberg's assertion that he's always been a fan. Sure, compared to Bryan Singer who only really delved into this universe when he was in the process of getting hired, Kinberg might be a fan that way. But if we're gonna say Kinberg is a fan because he was able to name drop Days of Future Past, that's a fairly low bar to pass.

Also, wasn't there an interview where Olivia Munn had to school Kinberg Re: Psylocke about something a supposed fan would actually already know? Something really simple like Betsy also being a telepath.

Really? If this is true I hope whoever you are replacing JB with can save this movie. Maybe JB is not the right choice for a NM movie, but we deserve a NM trilogy

Tbh I really don't like the idea of Laura being in this movie. They should save her for X-Force.

At this point a NM trilogy is not going to happen. But we'll likely see most of the New Mutants (possibly minus ATJ) in X-Force.

On the subject of Cecilia, while she isn't a villain, she is no Professor X. She believes she's saving these kids from themselves, protecting them from their powers. She's just going about it in the worst possible way...

Although she doesn't have her powers in the movie she does end up physically shielding the teens from certain death....

At that point in the production the setting of the film was at a school affiliated with the X-Men run by Moira. The script was much closer to what you would call a dark superhero movie. Costumes, big visuals, etc. Closer to an adaptation of the saga from the comics.

There were vastly different ideas on what direction to take the film, to the disgust of us Fox went with the cheaper genius vision proposed by Boone, and gradually we ended up with a bad movie that combined a bunch of ingredients from Boone's favorite horror films resulting in a confused movie defined more by its genre than its story & characters.

I can't say for sure why she probably won't return as I don't know her, but I've heard multiple rumors about the why, from her not having interest in returning, Fox not being willing to dish out enough money to bring her back, to her having a personal issue with someone involved in the production of New Mutants.

Fox has essentially ordered everyone involved with New Mutants to speak out positively about Josh Boone, in an attempt to prevent the public from perceiving this movie in a negative light.

So I think I'll join in.

"It was a true pleasure and honor to work with Josh Boone. A real visionary that has a super bright future ahead of him. He's a consummate professional with a huge kind heart! "

I never said that. I am cautiously optimistic that it can be salvaged. We have an incredible cast & crew, JB is gone, and Fox is finally giving us most of what we asked for after they screened Boone's cut. As a fan of the property myself, I can say that we're going all out to fix this. We just might pull it off.

So has it been confirmed that Colossus and X-23 are being added in reshoots?

Honestly I think it would make a ton of sense to set New Mutants after Logan. After all, Logan literally featured the creation of new mutants (and even used the term "new mutants"). The mutants in this movie could be more of the new mutants that are being created in labs around the world. Hell, that's probably what casual audiences would be expecting after seeing Logan.
