The Joker Thread - Part 1

If you were going purely be appearance, '80s Elfman totally looked the part.
Bowie did too. I honestly feel like he, Anthony Perkins, and Malcolm Mcdowell would've been great Jokers in a 70s Batman movie.

Why is a 2023 shoot unlikely or too far out? Reeves will likely start writing in 2022. A late 2023 shoot for a 2024 release sounds perfectly reasonable. Early 2024 shoot maybe.

I don’t think a sequel will come out later than summer/fall 2025. But yes, one movie at a time. Don’t leave ideas for the next movie, that’s always the best approach. That Vince Gilligan/Breaking Bad season to season approach is honestly the best process (same with Nolan’s TDK trilogy, Coppolla’s Godfather’s and Cameron’s Terminator’s). Back yourself into a corner and now you have to find a way out of it. Maybe it doesn’t work for everybody but the strongest **** comes out of that mind set IMO.

Franchises think too far ahead and the movies suffer. They should probably leave Dick Grayson and Harvey Dent out of the script.
I just think it's possible they might not want to feel overworked. But like I said, it didn't stop Marvel from shooting two pretty big buildup movies back-to-back. There's also the matter of Marvel and DC being two different companies with different mentalities.

But 2023 isn't really THAT impossible. It definitely sounds like a fun experience (hopefully) so maybe they'd be eager to start working on the sequel

I feel like Reeves won’t pull a Nolan and make a movie in between. 2023 shoot the earliest. 2024 the latest.

“We can’t know!” no **** Eddie :) that’s the point of this forum for the most part. Speculation, predictions, opinions.

I'd rather have Gyllenhaal as Joker and Gosling as Dent/Two-Face.

Yeah, I have to agree. Gosling is much more the pretty boy lead actor type, which is exactly what Harvey Dent should be, whereas Gyllenhaal lives and breaths "creepy sociopath" roles. The only way I could see them flipping is if they are both *deliberately* flipping, as a personal acting challenge.

Gosling is now in my top 3 for Dent. He’s so wrong for Joker.

Gyllenhaal will always work for me as Joker. Especially as he gets older. I see Caleb Landry Jones as a young Bowie DKR choice so maybe they should wait until he’s in his 40’s, cast him in the adaptation.

I disagree on him being wrong for it, it just depends on the way they tackle Joker. If this Joker is even remotely similar to Heath Joker then maybe not, but if he's outgoing, charismatic and fun I think it could definitely work. I am starting to see him for Dent too though. I think Gyllenhaal would be a better fit for either role, but by no means would Gosling not be awesome imo

Gosling is great with moody stoic characters too (Only God Forgives, 2049, etc) but he would be much more interesting as charismatic Joker (I'd prefer we don't get another creepy sociopath version tbh). Whereas I think Gyllenhaal would be perfect for basically any version of Joker or Harvey. I would be beyond thrilled with either of them in any role

Gosling over Jake for me simply because I’ve already seen or at least can picture pretty well Jake’s version of Joker. Gosling I have trouble getting a grip of how he would play it and that’s way more interesting.

Conversely, I can 100% picture Gosling’s Dent and it’s not that exciting to me. But then again I’m the weirdo who doesn’t really care for Harvey Dent that much.

Gosling Joker would definitely be unique in a good way. Gyllenhaal as Joker would be amazing too but it almost makes too much sense? I agree with Eddie in that I prefer slightly unpredictable picks for the big roles.

Harvey would still give Gyllenhaal a ton of material to work with.

And either way, Gosling or Jake are still a decade too old for Dent, at least for how I see it. He should be an equal for Pattinson’s Wayne, not a mentor. But, I’m against seeing Dent’s downfall on film again. If they have to do the character, give us full on gangster Two-Face.

ehhh they still can pull off late 20s, especially Gyllenhaal. Those two and Pattinson basically have the fountain of youth. I wonder what Bruce's age will actually be confirmed to be. I'm fine with an age difference anyways

I guess they could, but I’d rather get someone in Pattinson’s age range like Nicolas Hoult, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Armie Hammer... wait...

F****... actually just go with Ryan and Jake after all lol

lol exactly. Gosling and Gyllenhaal are too good to not at least try to get em in

For some reason I can see Reeves going with someone young and more unknown for Harvey rather than doing so with Joker. Pattinson is a giant grab, and I feel like Joker will, while not as big, still be a big pull

I'll probs be wrong tho idk just a thought

Until the day Harvey Dent is officially announced, I’ll be rooting for Christopher Abbott in the role. And I really like John David Washington for Dent too, although it’s now a popular fancast. Gosling is more likely to take Harvey Dent than the Joker. Goose is already one of my fav actors of all time but I feel like i’d be seeing Gosling in Joker makeup. It’s not interesting to me. And he’s got like 5 huge movies lined up, all spaced out.

I’ve said this until i’m blue in the face but the actor who’s eventually announced for Joker will inspire a collective “who?” from the general public. It won’t be a movie star. It won’t even be a Adam Driver type where one generation absolutely knows the name, but maybe the older generation is like “umm, I’m not sure who that is, can you show me a picture?”. Of course Jake has always been my obsession but that was a hunch based off his 2017 meetings with Matt Reeves. If that was indeed about replacing Ben Affleck, then I guess he’s not Joker after all.

Hoult is still a possibility but only works for me if they completely transform his face.

Not THAT sure about Joker being super famous....

Still not counting out the Keoghan twist, but maybe I shouldn’t hype him too much as J, incase he’s Mad Hatter or Plastic Man.

I thought you'd already gone all in on Keoghan secretly being cast as the Joker. You seemed pretty fervent (almost dogmatic) in your claims that that would be the outcome.

I really hate this argument. Have you really ever totally forgotten that an actor isn’t just playing a role in a film? Even those who totally transform themselves for roles like DDL still can’t help but bring their own traits, even if the trait is how different they are from previous roles. It’s something you have to buy into with any piece of fiction. When I’m watching Bale as Batman he’s never not Bale in a Batman suit, but that’s the whole point.

He changes with the times Brucie

It might be interesting if they got someone who already has chemistry with Pattinson.

Off the top who has he acted with? Dafoe, Pearce, Hunman, Depp, Holland. He's good friends with Jamie Bell. I don't really want any of them as Joker though. Guy Pearce would be cool
