Hawkeye Episode 6: So This is Christmas? (Spoiler Discussion)

Yelena is very quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite MCU characters. She was fantastic here.

After a very "meh" first half, this series really redeemed itself with the last couple episodes for me. WandaVision is still easily my favorite of the D+ series so far, but this one's a solid second.

And of course Kingpin ain't dead. Come on y'all, it's like some of you are new to this funny book stuff or something. :funny:
Glad you enjoyed it FC.

While I am a big fan of the first and third episode, I do feel like the second half really elevated things quite a bit. I am happy it got others on board. And yes, Yelena is special. Already more of a character then Nat ever was. Same for Kate in comparison to Clint. They are going places.

What an end! Happily surprised to see I was wrong and see Kingpin get in some action. The guy took and arrow to the chest and survived an explosion, he survived that gunshot.

I gotta say this was the most satisfying of the Dinsey shows all the way through, Wandavision had that spot but the Ralph Bohner revelation brought it down.

Maya was the decoy main guy of the series. Really want to see her get developed in her series. I imagine we will see the outcome of that fight during her series.

Tony Dalton has an innate ability at being simultaneously charming and threatening. He's great at playing characters who have a facade of friendliness, but can turn ugly real quick. So him playing a genuine and sincere guy (one who's a bit of a dork, to be honest) was a hell of a switch. That's pretty good casting for a relatively minor role.

I’m confused about Kingpin. Does he have powers? How did he survive getting hit by a car?
Didn't I ever tell you?

Glad others liked it!

Outside of Ep3 this whole series felt like wasted potential, Steinfield's charm was carrying everything for me. Some good stuff here and there but sadly was very disappointed in this show. Nowhere near the Fraction run in terms of style, quality or writing.

Was I the only one who felt that last battle with Kingpin was just very off from concept to rushed editing? I'm lost at how the heck could Kate get up from even one punch and not have every bone in her body broken from Fisk. Even if he was holding back, she was flying and we've seen how badly he damages others from shows. With no literal super powered heroes here, any character in this show that got punched like that should be out for the count. Having Maya battle Fisk would have made far more sense as the last moment was rushed and tacked on. Personally I would preferred they had at least a 3 vs 1 situation with Fisk. Would have made far more sense.

I'm not sure they even cared to ground anything, since essentially everyone is indestructible including the larp characters. It just all felt lazy.

I'm with you. This show was a huge disapointment.

Despite aping some of the charming style of Fraction's run, sometimes, it didn't have much else.

The story was way too divided, between Clint/Kate, Clint/Echo, Kate/her mom, Clint/Yelena, and now...Kingpin, who shows up only to lose to the newbie, and then get shot by the villain no one particularly cares about?

LARPers were cringe. What a dated joke. Making fun of nerds. Really? The Musical number was flat too. Not very funny or fun, especially since we saw the only worthwhile half in the first episode anyways.

Yelena continues to ring false to me. The show thinks she's so cool. But she's a 5 ft tall kid with a bad Russian accent who I can't take seriously. Her dynamic with Kate is so cringe with all the compliments.

The only positive thing was Clint's new costume, Jack, and some of the Christmas vibes.

I never got the idea they were making fun of that crew. Especially with how easily Kate fell in with them, bonded with them. Same with Clint and Grills. They are quirky characters, like Kate, and also like her, endearing.

So why did the tracksuits break into the auction to get Agent 19's watch before the whole Ronin thing?

So yeah, needless to say I loved every minute of the finale. Well, every minute except Kazi getting killed off without ever getting to put on his Clown makeup.

  • As others have said, Steinfeld/Kate and Pugh/Yelena are the standouts here. Really amazing breakouts into the MCU scene. They're going to be dominating this franchise for a long time to come.
  • Cox/Maya was definitely the weaker of the debuts, but she did a good job with what she was given, it just wasn't as memorable content as the rest of the cast. They did her a huge disservice by wasting the mid-credits scene on the musical instead of a direct tease for her solo series. She's going to be only the second outright new lead on a D+ show (Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk both having titular ties to existing heroes) and is far less known than Moon Knight. They needed to do more to build hype for that project.
  • Happy to see Dalton/Jack turn out innocent. He was a lot of fun here. But I'm bummed it didn't end with him getting recruited by the Contessa. That would have been perfect. Especially since she's presumably down an agent with Yelena rejecting her hit.
  • The action was a blast, the humor was on point, my only regret is they didn't recreate the ending to Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Clint going back to bring Kate home with his family while 'I'll Be Home For Christmas' plays in the background.

This episode was the bomb dot com. This whole series was fun and I want more.

Clint and Kate handling the mob shows me that they could kick Batman & Robin's asses, Yelena just being epic, the elevator catfight with her and Kate was hilarious, Kingpin and his cane and his fight with Kate, then the Bartons having Christmas and accepting Kate as Clint's outside child...

But here's a survival tip people: whenever all hell breaks loose in a New York City building, you NEVER TAKE the elevators. Always run for the damn stairs!

Of all things, I thought it was funny af that they chose 30 Rock to have the final battle and then just to ruin the tree like that. Way to stick it to NBC, Disney lol.

This show definitely could've used a few less subplots and characters (like Echo), but overall I think they wrapped it up pretty well. This definitely was one of the better episodes of the season.

I also find it pretty funny that people are pretending that Laura Barton being Agent 19 has any impact on the canon status of Agents of SHIELD. Especially since Bobbi never used Agent 19 or the codename Mockingbird in AoS. People love hating on that show.

It wasn’t disappointing but just average.

It’s definitely not a WandaVision nor does it try to be. No political message like FATWS. Not a game changer for the MCU like Loki. It was a well acted show with good chemistry and some nice cameos and setups for the future.

Fun episode. Enjoyed this version of Kingpin, they should've just made him the main villain. Overall, fun show. Story was a bit all over the place and unfocused, none of the LARP jokes worked... but I liked it. Just good old fun.

Yeah, that LARP stuff was played out a decade ago with docs, Knights of Badassdom, and Role Models. And done far funnier. Here it read like an older creative team who just discovered it was a thing, then thinking it would be funny strictly cause it's Adults role playing. It didn't come off sincere. It was more like something that would be on my parents sitcoms.

I'm guessing they thought that musical post credit would be a hit based on how they marketed and overhyped Agatha's song. It's gonna likely anger quite a few viewers hoping for something cool haha

After recently re-watching the phenomenal DD (all 3 seasons), Hawkeye Ep.6 proved my worst fears - they have "MCU"-d Vincent D'Onofrio as Fisk. Not fully, but he is definitely a toned down version compared to his Netflix counterpart.

I was really hoping for something amazing - and was quite disappointed especially after getting that amazing Matt Murdock MCU re-entrance last week on NWH.

I really hope wherever Matt or Fisk show up next - that they keep the R-rated nature and characterization that the DD show had.

Happy to see most of you enjoyed it. I didn't, I was very underwhelmed. Episode 3 is the only one I really enjoyed, not just because of the big action sequence but the character moments worked better too. Everything else landed too often on the "Cheap TV" side for me, even though there were several things I liked.
