The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa (Spoiler Discussion)

Purely on the fact that this episode was finally mostly present time makes it a stronger episode for me. Yeah, the chase was kind of silly, showing you the limits of the budget, but the rest of it was great.

It is a Robert Rodiguez show, so of course Danny Trejo showed up. Him being the new Malakilli is a neat surprise, and is a great choice, imo. Of course, Trejo wasn't the only returning actor Rodriguez had worked with. Double checked, and Black K's actor was one of the Super Predators from Predators. Which the fight scene heavily hinted at. Basing Black K's movements off a Predator is a nice choice, I admit. I was really worried about the Gamorreans. When they showed up, I thought for sure Black K was going to take an arm.

Glad to see more Pykes, even though I was expecting a different crime syndicate to take over.

I get where the Mighty Cyborg Vespa Rangers might annoy people. They feel Star Wars but they don't feel Tatooine like the Swoop Gang. They would fit in more on Corellia IMO.

THAT BEING SAID...I love that Boba has taken them and now they're his eyes and ears in Mos Espa. Gotta have some boots on the ground and keep in the loop of what's going on. Also all they needed was a fifth Vespa in black to form Vespa Voltron (we have Green, Blue, Red and yellow).

LOVED the BK fight. Also pour one out for the Super Gamo bros...they be loyal. Am looking forward to BK joining the crew in the next episode or so.

10/10 Dany Trejo Rancor Tamer/Trainer. *Chef's Kiss*
(I'm calling the Rancor Machete now)

Also I think we can finally say that the Rancor is the official sigil of Clan Fett between Omega and Muchi and Boba and his new goodest boi.

Millage is gunna very on this episode, some parts were rough and it went by fast. But I felt unlike episode one, this got the plot moving. We now know the Pykes are the current problem, (though im unsure if they're going to keep being a problem after Ep. 4)
True. Regardless of fit it’s good to see Boba adding to his numbers organically and people joining as a direct result of his actions. Merciful Boba is leading to constructive/powerful Boba. He has survived the assassination attempt from BK due to all the back up he had from the new gang, the 2 loyal guards and the original Fennec, which fits with his power and influence starting to take hold in the area. He is breeding loyalty in them all by the way he has treated them (with respect when he didn’t need to). I hope BK is back and working for Boba in future too.

In terms of story, I found this episode more balanced than the first two.
But everything seems so sluggish... I have nothing against slow storytelling, especially because it's usually time took to introduce us to a certain world and to set a certain mood. But here, everything remains so empty. It's only (and already) the third episode, and a lot feels already repetitive...

If others had pointed how Boba's strenght and fight skills were a bit inconsistent, I have to add that his characterization is also a bit all over the place. He's sometimes ruthless, sometimes mercyful. Maybe I'm mistaking nuances for a lack of direction, but again, after three episodes now, I have to admit that I'm starting to be a little bit annoyed by that feeling the character isn't always the same from one scene to another. Temuera Morrison is doing the work and his chemistry with Ming-Na Wen is quite good, but the relationship between their characters needs to be fleshed out more as I've already start to questionning myself why do they work so close.

The directing was ... well, let's say I was taken out of my viewing a few times.
I still think everything looks too flat in terms of lighting. Per example, the "bacta tank room" could use a greenish reflection, just a little something to give a little more character and sublimate the cinematography.
Much has already been said about the already infamous chase scene. I don't think it's a budget issue since we had similar scenes best done 40 years ago with probably less ressources. I seriously suspect time constraint on this show (and not just for the FX... sorry I'm babling now) as I'm sure the talents behind the camera could have pulled-off that sequence with better preparation. There's just so many bad choices... The speed-up effect giving the whole thing a weird Benny Hill effect (was I seriously the only one to have that music popping in the head ?), the wide shot betraying the staging with the cast looking so stiff on their bikes, etc.
Otherwise I think the acting was ok imo, everyone is doing well with what is given to them. It's just that the script has so little energy (babbling again).
The biker gang seems to come from a whole different franchise though. The look is straight from that very current "cyberpunk" trend, from clothes to hair ... I already had a problem with the very bland ninjas in the first episode. In a world like Star Wars, with such a rich background, so many references, and so much room to evolve, it's actually an exploit to design things that are such a departure from it and worst, that feels so uninspired.

Sadly, for now, that last adjective sums up the show for me... I didn't set any crazy expectations for this, I'm still very open to what will be proposed and in some place I'm even close to geeking out a bit. But I also remember that next week we'll be farther than halfway through that show and I'm still not sure what it really wants to tell.

Seeing Stephen Root and Danny Trejo was a great. MurderWookie Black Krrsantan pulling Boba out of the Bacta tank was pretty frightening too.

I didn't like the speeder chase, they looked like they were going way too slow. Good idea, poor execution.

Liked the episode in general, but I have a few nits to pick with the Krrsantan fight. The way they chose to go with it makes it seem like Boba is invulnerable lol. Should've had his back up show up quicker and had him take less hits from Big K.

I was wondering if Fett would expand his crew. Hard to be a mob boss when your gang is five people and a couple of service droids.

We are getting cyborg mods vs alien rockers battle.

Are all the main cast of sitcom the I.T Crowd going to voice droids in the Star Wars universe. They got Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade. I'm half expecting Chris O'Dowd voicing a droid on Andor and Katherine Parkinson voicing one in Obi Wan next.

I would hardly describe Fett as "invincible" after that fight. Fett got his ass handed to him. It is still a Star Wars show, you are not going to see a lot of bodily damage.

If anything I'd like them to start making present Boba more badass, flashback Boba has hogged all the cool action scenes.

The internet is good.

This is beautiful.

Star Wars is so large and all encompassing. You can like or dislike whatever you want, but you can find pretty much anything in Star Wars at this point. But there is nothing better, and I mean nothing, then when you watch jerks claim something "isn't Star Wars" that is directly inspired by George, who is suppose to be the only source of proper canon. And TCW has a lot of wild, crazy stuff a lot of these jerks couldn't imagine "being Star Wars".

Too many people take the "lived in, dirty, grimy" take way too seriously. Color is good. Chrome is good.
I really dig the combo here. The Mods (love the pun by the way) with their youthful, colorful speeders, against the backdrop of old, tired Tatooine.

I remember being a jaded jerk about the PT. But I eventually grew up. People can like or dislike whatever they want, and that's one of the really cool things about Star Wars. There is so much content, you can 100% find something you enjoy. But so many seem determined to be mad about it. Not simply dislike something, not vibe with it. Hate it with a fiery passion.

They think every bit of star wars should be for them and to their liking. Which is a completely unreasonable and exhausting way to approach any long running multimedia property.

I swear, if we don't see adult Kitster and Wald as their own gang at some point, I'll lose it lol

This episode couldn't really hold my interest, and that biker gang...I want them all dead. Meh episode.

Also Lucas straight references Tucker 1948 candy apple and chrome Dream Sedan ...

as mentioned American Graffiti 50s 60s car and diner settings of his own childhood)
But Favreau and R.Rodriguez referencing 60s Mods is somehow off limits.
Although I agree they seemed slightly out of place on Tatooine, Fixer's Jacket sais different.

Also while the reference is lost on most complaining, Quadrophenia came out 1979, two years after SW, knowing Favreau and Rodriguez's age and references, they were fans.:cwink:

I don’t mind color or chrome in Star Wars.
I just think it’s stupid to have mods and vespas in Star Wars :funny:

It just kinda looks like a group of kids that are obsessed with an earth subculture from the past and that doesn’t make a bit of goddamn sense.
