Well as a Nats fan there goes the next couple of years. I get some of the move but man Trea Turner hits hard. One would think that you would build around Turner and Soto rather than just Soto. I just hope all of these trades give the Mats a 5-10 year run as on e of the top teams.

As someone who is familiar with the Dodger's organization, I feel quite sure that Ruiz and Gray are going to be in the majors for quite some time. That being said, I do think the Nats got a little bit of the short end of the stick. I could see LA getting out of the Bauer contract and sliding in Scherzer for the next couple of years. Getting Turner was a shock for me and makes the possibility of losing Seager much more palatable. Turner also has another year on his contract.

The webbynet. I usually google top mlb prospects or something like that. You can usually do it by team too. They even have team rankings of who has the best farm system; although that bounces around a bit because top prospects often get called up. Dodgers were way up there a couple years ago, but called up May, Gonsolin, Will Smith, Alex Verdugo, etc. and sunk like a rock.

cal ripken Jr's son is playing Triple AAA for the O's, and he's been putting up decent numbers lately. i think Yamstremski's grandson is still on the team too? i'd have to double check on that one because i don't work there anymore

Do you mean Carl's grandson Mike? He's with the "lowly" Giants and, frankly, doing a fine job.....unfortunately....

I feel for you. But you did get two very good prospects out of the deal that will likely contribute at the major league level, possibly a lot, down the line. And probably not too far down the line.

Question.....and this could go in other threads. Should a team that signs someone who is then injured, get some sort of a salary cap break? Is there a sport where this happens?

And, oh yeah, why are these owners who believe so strongly in the "free market" so intent on establishing salary caps in the first place? Could it possibly be because the free market wouldn't maximize their profits and latter is what they really believe in?

As much as I dislike the SF Giants, I really have to hand it to them. Those guys do not give up and are handling the pressure being put on them by a very, very good Dodger team.

If the Dodgers can't catch them, I also think they are uniquely set up to have the one game playoff not affect them as much as it does other teams. They can go into the one game playoff with a guy like Scherzer, come back at you in the next three games with Buehler, Kershaw, Urias, and Scherzer again. Wash, rinse and repeat. I can't think of another team that can do anything close to that.

Of course, anything can happen in one game and not winning the division significantly reduces your chances. I never have liked the one game playoff for exactly how we see things playing out between the Dodgers and Giants; no matter who ends up taking the division. What we are going to see is a team that is about 20 games better than the team they are playing in a one game winner take all.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that, in addition to Scherzer (who hasn't pitched well recently), the "other" player the Dodgers picked up in the trade is leading the league in batting average, stolen bases, hits, total bases, has 27 HRs, can play infield and outfield, and doesn't bat leadoff.

So I'm wondering why Trea Turner is getting virtually NO mention for MVP. I mean, Jesus, look at the stats.

That was quite the elimination game last night between the Dodgers and the Cards. That is a rivalry between two of the best franchises in baseball that goes back decades even though they aren't in the same division. Even if I wasn't a Dodger fan, I think they deserved it after having the regular season they had. Neither starter had their best stuff, but just gutted it out and only gave up 1 run.

You could just feel that the Sox had control of the Yankees the entire game, but this one was a high wire act the whole way.

Losing Kershaw was a big deal, but not surprising. He's been having medical issues for quite some time.

So......a new season is here. I know baseball isn't much of a deal to a lot of people, but what are your thoughts so far?

@Reek How is Atlanta dealing with losing Freeman? The Dodgers lost Seager who signed a 10 year 350M deal but picked up Freeman on a 6 year deal for less than half of that. Freddie is already a fan favorite and the Dodgers can use their former 1st baseman at 2nd or 3rd, after sliding Trea Turner over to short. Lux and Taylor can also play 2nd and Taylor can fill in at SS. I actually like their infield better than I did last year. Getting players comfortable at multiple positions is, I think, the wave of the future and also helps guard teams against injuries. The Dodgers look like the team to beat to me. Kershaw went out the other night and pitched 7 perfect innings on 80 pitches before they pulled him. His reaction was "it was the right call at this time of the year". That's a great thing for his teammates to hear. When your future hall of famer who has never pitched a perfect game is cool with being pulled 6 outs from the end of the game, it sends a message to everyone.

And, more importantly, today marks the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking into the major leagues.
