DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

The Gadot thing may be more along the lines of when Gunn also said , " I didn't let go of Henry " I.E., I haven't fired Gadot, but she's not who I have in mind for my new WW.

When he talked to Gadot recently, it may have been to say , " We're moving in a different direction".

On the other, Gadot is part of the elements that clicked with the GA, even if there were fans who didn't like her iteration of the character.

Again, the question becomes, if your WBD , do you get rid of her for the sake of rebooting ,or to hold onto her like Davis, and fold her into the new universe a keep a popular WW?

At the same, if they're doing a Paradise Island show set before Wonder Woman's birth, it certainly would help to have a heavyweight like Robin Wright and have Connie Nielson leading the series.

That's why I think that they're keeping their options open more than fans may think they are.

So I think it could go either way at this point.

I would not want Affleck directing Superman. That would be like Brad bird directing Swamp thing.

He is being so vague about Gal... Is she playing hard ball or are they? She still has to get paid for Wonder Woman 3 right?
Honestly I think they’ve deliberately bought themselves time on making that call with Paradise Lost, and they won’t make the “we want someone younger” call until they have to. But it’ll happen eventually, imo.

Personally, I still don't get why Henry doesn't fit with what James Gunn has in mind for Superman but everyone else does. Did he just want a younger Superman or was he too expensive for Warner Bros?

He wants a younger superman. It really is that simple.

So James Gunn is okay with replacing Ben and Henry due to their ages, but wants to (potentially) keep Gal and Jason on board in their respective roles?

Just a couple of thoughts.

Naming this first chapter as "Gods and Monsters" just reminds me of this:

Which, while most probably a pipeline, makes me wish they might portray them in a multiverse of some sort.

As far as canon is concerned, if The Flash is basically flashpoint, technically speaking the DCEU is still canon, just as how all the stuff pre-flashpoint in the comics are still canon in the comics in the grand scheme of the comic universe story, and how New 52 is still canon pre-rebirth.

And finally, concerning Gal, her situation is different from Waller, as WW herself is so intertwined with the iconography of the trinity and JL, it would be weird to have the old WW with the new Supes and Bats. Also, my girl is 37 now, she'd be aged out by the time they get anything rolling on WW. If they got rid of Henry for being too old for Gunn's vision, pretty sure they would apply that to Gal's case too. As for the argument that her being everyone's WW since she was their first exposure is pretty irrelevant, since there are reboots and recasts for Superman and Batman throughout film history, nothing is stopping them from doing the same with WW. What Gal is, is pretty much analogous to Chris Reeve for Superman. While the next actress to play WW would have some BIG shoes to fill, it's not like this hasn't been done before. Routh and Cavill did it, whether you think they filled those shoes or not is questionable because the films themselves were not as well received as we want, but Bale is pretty much a successful case of taking over from Keaton and Kilmer (and Clooney lmao). And now Pattinson is doing the same. Whether they can fill those shoes mostly depends heavily on if the film itself is good. So just make that good.

Nah, he's just not officially ditching anyone 'til their latest appearances have come out. They've already all but confirmed Jason as Lobo, so the only way I see a 3rd Aquaman movie happening is if this one kills it at the box office. Then Jason would move onto Lobo after that. And they're waffling on Gal because they've got that Wonder Woman prequel series in the works first to buy them time, and are probably hoping they can find a role to offer her in the meantime.

That said, you know he didn't ditch Affleck and Cavill due to "ages." :funny: It's about the baggage as much as anything else. If ever there was a time to cut ties with them, it was 2017 it is now.

I enjoyed JL: Gods and Monsters. Great voice work (Michael C. Hall as Batman, Benjamin Bratt as Superman, Tamara Taylor as Wonder Woman, Jason Isaacs as Luthor, Richard Chamberlain as Highfather!!!).

Exactly. Still canon, just no longer main continuity.

I wish James Gunn would stop being on social media.

Can they just be normal please.

They're both probably gone too but to say those two were more popular in their roles than Affleck or especially Cavill is a gargantuan understatement. Cavill was linked exclusively to controversial or wildly unsuccessful movies as was Affleck even though he probably could have been a big deal had he stuck with it - but he didn't.

They didn't announce an Aquaman 3, or a Flash sequel, and the Wonder Woman project they announced was... a prequel show.

Yeah, they aren't bringing any of those actors over in those roles.

Did they even confirm that the Amanda Waller show was set in the DCU? How do we know that isn't just part of the old universe (like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker clearly were)?

They're hedging their bets. If The Flash is as good as everyone is saying it is then it could be a HUGE hit and, well, try telling the shareholders that they're going to chuck it all out the window regardless. Same with Aquaman 2.

I'm sure in Gunn's perfect world he would want to start completely fresh but he's got a couple of potentially huge movies coming this year and if they perform well they cant ignore that.

Do you think Gunn and Warner Bros will keep Ezra as the Flash if his film ends up being a big hit at the box office?

When you have a rival non WB studio exec calling The Flash “NWH good”, it’s definitely not PR. And while happy talk from Gunn/Safran is expected given their employer, it feels consistent with what we’re hearing from test screenings.

And if all of the DC titles this year overperform, Gunn’s going to have to pivot.

I don’t think so. Just cast Barry Keoghan in the sequel and go from there.

Wait. Who said that?

There's a very real chance Flash is pretty great, tbh. The full plot has been leaked for quite awhile now and it sounds like a super fun, creative time travel story built around some really interesting concepts. The only red flag around it is, well, the walking red flag at the heart of it.

I'm sure The Flash will probably be a solid flick and a fun time, but NO level of fun time can justify keeping Ezra around, I'm sorry. The only result I'd accept if the movie's a hit is keeping Muschietti and the rest of the cast around (as we know they're already keeping Hodson) in whatever capacity they'd be suited for. If he knocks this outta the park, I certainly wouldn't object to Muschietti on Superman. Or if they're considering using Calle for Woman of Tomorrow, let him direct that with her.

Think you must have read a different plot leak to me. There's a MacGuffin in it that makes 'Martha' sound positively genius by comparison.

Flick there's no way they're keeping Ezra. Even Gunn must be getting annoyed at the amount of people on social media tweeting at him "You keep a POS like Ezra and fired Henry and Gal?!" Ezra is a liability and it would be astronomically idiotic to keep them even if the movie's a huge hit. They will recast them.
