The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread

Interesting choices he put up for underrated villains.

It would be interesting to see him tackle the magical villains for Superman.

I definitely think we see parasite at some point.

Currently watching! Rosenbaum has been crushing it with his podcast lately.

I like Rosenbaum’s podcast. But sometimes he leans too far into the mental health stuff. When he is organic about it, he can have amazing podcasts. He did one with Alan Ritchson that was chilling where Ritchson recounted his suicide attempt. It was very important and very well done. But other times he isn’t as organic and just tends to force the conversation in that direction.

But he is for the most part a truly great podcaster.

I never took Pa’s response at face value. Now, if he had said “Yes!” (let them die) — or even if he had said “Maybe!” (let them die) in a defiant and assured manner — the connotation would be different. But Pa is subdued and tentative. He doesn’t know what to say. As far as he’s concerned, Clark doing the right thing (saving the kids on the bus) risked public exposure; and that, in turn, could mean losing his son (to the government, the military). As constructed within the narrative, Pa’s dilemma is legitimate. And his uncertain “maybe” reflects that.
It would have been much better had he just said nothing and changed the subject. That's what real people do. If that's what the scene was conveying, there were better ways of doing it.

Man of Steel could have been great. It just needed a re-edit.

Except… the next scene — a kinda crucial one, and which naturally flows from this scene — is where Pa shows the Kryptonian ship to Clark and explains his alien origins. So, not really much opportunity to change the subject to (say) baseball.

I loved it. Thanks for posting it. I never knew he had a podcast, I'm subscribed now.

He has had many guests from the superhero genre, as well as Star Trek, Supernatural, etc. If you like Smallville, he does a podcast with Tom Welling where they review/discuss every Smallville episode, it's called "Talkville." They're about to finish Season 2. But yeah, no problem! He's had a wide variety of guests on his podcast!

No, I meant change the subject from the bus to that.

....but can the sunlight shine through them?

Not so amazing now, huh? :o

Too bad they never made a Mad Magazine movie. Gray Matter Guy would have been the perfect Alfred E. Neuman a couple decades ago.

LA LA Land has some nice colors and visuals that could work well into a Supes movie.

I would love to see a wide shot battle with a bombastic colorful background with only silhouettes of Supes and the enemy he is battling. A dash of Spider-Man (Raimi) and a dash of Sin City.

Listening to Gunn on Inside of You I find myself agreeing with most of what he says. I may not like his films but I totally get his sentiment and like the idea of him in charge.

Edit: listening to him rip into people speculating on who has screen tested and who has been offered jobs! Just awesome :)

No way to know. We all have wants and wishes for "our" Superman film.
Once the actor and that first suit reveal hits, we will definitely have an idea in what direction he's taking us on in the journey.

Enjoy the ride peps, it's gonna be fun.

Great to hear the opinions on lex. Honestly, Rosenbaum was a great lex and hope they finally go that route with him.

I think Gunn will deliver with this movie. But my hope is he doesn't spend most of the film establishing the wider DCU. Focus on Superman and his world.

He made it sound like he understood that was the way to do it.

it’s funny you mentioned this, I was listening to music from the era that was meant to inspire la la land and thinking about superman. It might be fun if we think of what sort of playlist would be perfect for superman legacy here on superherohype

I believe there is a soundtrack thread already :)

For those that have already seen The Flash, should we be concerned about Superman Legacy? If James Gunn really thinks of it as a great film, I can only imagine what horrors await for us moving forward.
