I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Given Sneider’s general persona, I wouldn’t be surprised if that post was more saying “I don’t have the inside line about this movie and that irks me to no end” rather than “There’s no movement happening.”

That is precisely what that is lol

Tomlin is also a writer who is extremely busy with tons of genre projects. He worked on that Terminator anime series too.

I think he's basically the new Goyer. :joking:
I don’t have a strong read on Tomlin’s work yet, and I know you're mostly kidding, but comparing anyone to Goyer is brutal :funny:. Man was absolute dead weight whose sole talent was knowing the Nolan brothers. A huge part of why there's such a big jump in quality from Begins (which is still great, don't get me wrong) to TDK (and, imo, TDKR as well) is they are now being written by Jonathan Nolan: a talented person with an interesting voice. As opposed to Goyer, a genuine hack who has never shown any sign he's capable of writing more than the absolute bare minimum of functionality.

But he’s also sorta filling that ecological niche, so I also don't disagree.

Well if Tomlin is going to start working on GoT soon (I don't think the article mentioned that so it's just a guess) then it's one of two possibilities: 1. The script is finished; or 2. Another writer is being brought on.
If it's number 2, then why name him as "The Batman II writer"?

We are worrying about a sequel of a movie who made millions of dollars and that already has a sequel as a goddamn HBO series and talking a lot about an absolute virtual movie in a non-born Universe which barely has a writer attached.

Jesus, relax. I just want to point out that George Miller's Justice League was at one step from going on the set and was cancelled, while TDK sequel was - in the SAME years - unknow for something like two years and half.

Reeeeelaxxxxxxxx

Haha, I mean hey, like him or not Goyer is a very successful writer who works fast and has stayed in demand in the business for a long time. So it wasn’t meaning to throw any sort of shade. I just meant that Tomlin is also a huge comic book/genre geek who seems to also work a lot and has already worked on two franchises Goyer has also worked on. I could see him having a similar career trajectory as something of a genre journeyman with Batman writing cred.

Back on the day I used to dog on Goyer all the time, and I’m also someone who prefers the two sequels over Begins, but I’ve come to appreciate his contributions to the trilogy. He was still involved with helping Nolan shape the stories for the sequels even though Jonathan was the one to take the ball and run with it. They wouldn’t be the same movies without him in the equation, so I gotta respect it. I also thought Dark City was pretty rad back in the day, but admittedly it’s been ages since I’ve seen it.

Me on Twitter every day seeing #TheBatman trending

Since we've nothing to talk about: I'm gonna second Gunn's recommendation of Batman: City of Crime to everyone here. I'm a big fan of Stray Bullets but somehow had no idea that David Lapham had a run on Batman. It's a really powerful, haunting story and really hope it's on Reeves and Tomlin's radar as an influence in the future. Something about it feels very of a piece with The Batman, particularly it's wonderful characterization of Bruce as an extraordinarily empathetic but deeply flawed person trapped in a perpetual moment of life altering trauma.

Broken City has heavy Reeves' vibes.

And the art work is gorgeous. If Dini had more of a Sean Phillips vibe. Especially loved how Risso drew the suit, hockey-type armor/pads underneath the fabric.

I have yet to re-watch it in full, but I think I’m secure enough to look back and say that most of my disinterest as a kid was just down to it not being BTAS. And especially because it was still kind of playing in that same sandbox as BTAS, rather than doing something completely different like Brave and the Bold.

But I like a lot of the character designs and that theme kills.

I'm currently watching it again, and is indeed a great show. Love it as a kid. It gets Batman and his so world so right, lots of actions and interesting new interpretations of the characters. In some areas I think it's even better than TAS - and that's peak animation! Overall, very underrated imo.

Wright hasn’t seen a script?

Alright lads, where’s my cyanide?

Truthfully, though, how long before the filming of the first movie do we think Wright would’ve gotten a look at that script?

I am so grateful my brain is totally preoccupied with Legacy right now, cuz I gotta tell ya - y'all seem miserable. :oldrazz:
Anytime I think it’s bad now, I look at the absolute hysteria that was happening in the immediate aftermath of the first Pattinson story dropping in 2019, when confirmation was still a week or two away.

It was “family member in a hostage situation” levels.

I really wanted to believe the “no news is good news.” I think if it was going to be delayed we would have already heard something about it ? Especially if February was the deadline for the script and then you have Mattson starting a new project.
