House of the Dragon House of the Dragon General Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

...and I was half expecting to actually see a Dragon.

A show about Targs called House of the Dragon and they dont show a dragon in the teaser.:down

The iron throne looks a lot better. Closer to how its supposed to look.

Idk why but they cant seem to get the white hair to look good on male actors. It was awkward looking for Viserys, Rhaegar, and now for Matt Smith's character. They need to try a different style or maybe a shorter cut for some male Targs. Or maybe some curls or waves, instead of just letting it hang loose and limp as a dead fish.

Not surprised they didn't show any dragons yet, though I'd expected them to at least include a roar/burst of flame. The CGI won't be ready, and releasing it unfinished would only get them raked over the coals by the internet.

Personally, I think Daemon's hair looks great, as it did for Lloyd's Viserys back in Season 1. Rhaegar was the only wig that looked really bad, IMO. I am disappointed though that it appears they're giving Considine a long wig for Viserys I. He's always been depicted with short hair in source work, and that would have been a good way to distinguish him.

Looks good. A bit odd, I think, to just drop it in the middle of the night, but still good.
HBO Max was doing a virtual presentation for their launch in Europe. But even so, yeah, it is a bit strange for them to drop a first look when most of the American audience would be asleep.

The show looks fine to me. The vibe that the trailer gave off was GOT season 1 with the budget of GOT seasons 7-8. I'm only assuming that we didn't see a dragon because it's the first teaser and the dragons in this are probably going to be much larger than Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion were in GOT so they might be saving that reveal.

Whenever they do decide to show the dragons I'm hoping they first show one that is Drogon's size and then show one that dwarfs it.

Damn it! Im still so angry about the original series (yes, i know how dramatic that sounds) but this looks so so so good! HBO really has this magic touch, production values shame every other genre show out there. Except maybe foundation. But that one has terrible writing.

this is why i wished they was the ones doing the witcher books

Maybe show Rhaenyra or Daemon with their dragons - about Drogon's size, maybe a little bigger - and then drop in Vhagar for the moneyshot. Odds are we're going to see Aemond claim her this season, so they should have a quality reveal shot on hand for that.

One thing that stands out to me in that teaser is the pageantry and heraldry seems much more vibrant and eye-catching. D&D too often shied away from eccentric designs and anything that they thought was too "fantastical" or silly.

After 8 seasons of Cersei's BS and dragon glass plot armor, I dont really want another conniving selfish queen in a GOT show. Do something different.
But don't you want to see all the KWEEN and fire posts on social media?

I like the look of it. Here’s hoping the writing is good too.

THR asked Sapochink how the upcoming drama’s look, feel and tone will differ from the original series, which ran from 2011 to 2019 and ranked as HBO’s most popular program in its history and the most Emmy-winning primetime drama of all time.

“I think we were very respectful of what the original show is,” said Sapochnik, who directs multiple episodes of Dragon and also serves as showrunner along with series co-creator Ryan Condal. “It wasn’t broken, so we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. House of the Dragon has its own tone that will evolve and emerge over the course of the show. But first, it’s very important to pay respects and homage to the original series, which was pretty groundbreaking. We’re standing on the shoulders of that show and we’re only here because of that show. So the most important thing for us to do is to respect that show as much as possible and try and complement it rather than reinvent it. And I was involved in making the original show, so I feel like that’s been useful. Like, I’m not arriving going, ‘Let’s change everything! Let’s do a different color palette!’ No, I quite like the color palette.

“That said, we can’t say, ‘Well, when we did Thrones, we did it this way …'” he added. “If you start every sentence with that, you’ve lost. This is something else, and should be something else. It’s a different crew, different people, different tone. Hopefully, it will be seen as something else. But it will have to earn that — it won’t happen overnight. Hopefully, fans will enjoy it for the thing that it is. We’ll be lucky if we ever come close to what the original show was, so we’re just putting our heads down and getting on with it and hoping what we come up with is worthy of having a Game of Thrones title.”

Sapochnik directed many acclaimed episodes of Thrones — such as “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter” — but this marks his first time serving as showrunner. He noted the job switch was so challenging that it made directing seem easier.

“It’s a lot of work,” Sapochnik said. “It’s a pretty interesting shift. I’m producing other directors and getting involved in a lot of the minutiae. Directing feels really simple by comparison. I feel vaguely elated on my directing days because I don’t have to think about anything other than directing. I’ve also learned, as I learned on Finch, that it’s becoming more and more important to me as I’m getting older to work with people I like. The journey is the destination and if you can’t enjoy the journey, then the destination has so much less meaning. I’ve got a group of filmmakers on House of the Dragon I have a lot of fun working with. I’ve never had that level of repeat business of working with the same people again and again. The way I work with [GoT veterans] Fabian Wagner, my DP, and Tim Porter, my editor, we have fun and make jokes and we never used to have that. I can’t tell you how important that is. Because there’s not a lot of funny stuff going on in the world of Thrones, so it’s quite nice to spend time with people you enjoy spending time with.”

I cannot wait for this. I love the cast, especially Matt Smith and Sonoya Mizuno :)

I was expecting an April/May release, like usually for GoT seasons…but it looks more like a late 2022 release. Otherwise we already would‘ve had a real trailer now

Looking forward to it.

Not far off now......

Huge failure by not casting Hunter Schafer or getting a cameo for Phoebe Bridgers.
