The Volunteers won today beating ETSU 14-8. They ended a 3 game losing streak and are 23-17 on the year. The Vols lead the all time series against ETSU 55-9 dating to back to 1967.:o Talk about dominating a team.

ha UCLA sweeps USC to make it the first time that one school swept the other in Football, Basketball and Baseball since 1941. We did it all on Jackie Robinson day weekend, it's a shame that the conference didn't let UCLA move that series to Jackie Robinson stadium.

Georgia's season can't get much worse at this point, but so what. We beat Tech last night 10-7. It was a great day for America!

COBB TAKES HOLD OF SECOND PLACE ON UT'S CAREER WINS LIST AS VOLS DOWN BELMONT 13-3

Tony Delmonico led the Vols with three Runs Batted In
May 9, 2007

KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee enjoyed its second offensive outburst in as many days Wednesday as the Volunteers baseball team used a 16-hit effort to turn back Belmont 13-3 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. It was a balanced attack for UT, as five Vols logged multiple hits. The Big Orange improved to 29-20 on the year and 9-1 this season in midweek games.
Senior Craig Cobb started on the mound for Tennessee and earned the win after allowing three runs on five hits. The win pushed his record to 7-4 on the year.
The victory was also the 26th of Cobb's career, giving him solo grasp of second place on Tennessee's all-time wins list. He entered the game tied with former Vol Luke Hochevar (2003-05) with 25 career wins. R.A. Dickey (1994-96) stands atop UT's all-time list with 38 career victories.
Offensively, J.P. Arencibia, Yan Gomes and Danny Lima all collected three hits. Second baseman Tony Delmonico, meanwhile, took game-high honors with three RBIs.
Belmont shortstop Packy Elkins gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the first inning, but UT used an RBI double by Arencibia in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 1-1. Arencibia's two-bagger was the 46th of his career - good for seventh place on Tennessee's career doubles list.

The Vols built a 7-1 lead with six two-out runs in the bottom of the third. Gomes and designated hitter Jeff Lockwood each recorded RBI basehits before Delmonico smacked a three-run homer. Delmonico's longball was his sixth of the season, tying him for second on the team. It also gave him nine home runs for his career.
In the top of the fourth, Elkins homered for the second time in as many plate appearances, but the Vols quickly erased that run when right fielder Andy Simunic plated Jarred Frazier with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.
Belmont made it a five-run game with an RBI single by Carlo Testa in the fifth. And once again, Tennessee wasted little time erasing the Bruins' offense. Frazier scored from third base on a throwing error in the sixth, and Simunic followed him home shortly thereafter on an RBI sacrifice fly by Gomes. That gave the Big Orange a 10-3 advantage.
Borbon gave the Vols a nine-run lead in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single up the middle. And an RBI basehit by Lima in the eighth extended Tennessee's lead to 13-3 and closed out the game's scoring.
Vols sophomore Danny Wiltz relieved Cobb to start the seventh and sat down the Bruins 1-2-3 with a pair of strikeouts. Lockwood pitched the final two innings for UT and scattered four hits with one strikeout.
Testa (3-5) took the loss for the Bruins after giving up six runs - all unearned - in one inning of relief. Belmont committed five errors against none for UT.
The Vols posted a six-run inning Wednesday for the fourth time in the last six games. Simunic stole two bases in the sixth inning, giving him his eighth multi-steal game of the year and a total of 25 steals on the season. And for the second time in as many games, Tennessee pitchers issued no walks.
The Vols now lead the all-time series with Belmont 3-2.
Tennessee hosts No. 7 South Carolina this weekend for a three-game series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Game times are set for 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Saturday's contest will be televised regionally on CSS.

SEC Tournament Central
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Tennessee baseball team's season came down to one game Saturday, and the Volunteers came out swinging. The Big Orange belted four home runs in support of senior pitcher Craig Cobb, and the end result was an 11-7 triumph over Florida in the regular-season finale for both teams at McKethan Stadium. The victory locked up Tennessee's 12th all-time berth in the SEC Tournament, which runs May 23-27 at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
The eighth-seeded Vols (33-23, 13-15 SEC) will face top-seeded Vanderbilt Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT. Tickets for the 2007 SEC Tournament are $100 for reserved box seats and $75 for a general admission book. Fans also may purchase reserved single-session tickets for $17 or general admission single-session tickets for $12 beginning Saturday, May 19, at 7 p.m. CT. To purchase tickets, call 1-800-732-4849 or visit www.secsports.com.
Cobb earned his eighth win of the season Saturday and the 26th of his career. It was his second victory in as many starts in Gainesville and his third in four outing against the Gators (28-28, 15-15 SEC). Tennessee has now won four straight series against Florida.
Junior standouts J.P. Arencibia and Julio Borbon each stepped up big for the Vols Saturday, logging four hits apiece and combining for five RBIs and five runs. Fellow junior Shawn Griffin also drove in three runs.
Florida made things interesting late, loading the bases with one out against Vols closer Jeff Lockwood in the bottom of the eighth. Backup catcher Hampton Tignor made it a four-run game with an RBI sacrifice fly, but a stingy Lockwood shut the Gators down after that and held on to log his eighth save and ensure the Vols would live to play another day.
Just as it did in the series' first two contests, Tennessee struck first Saturday. And it did so in a big way.
After leadoff man Andy Simunic drew a four-pitch walk from Gators pitcher Billy Bullock in the top of the first inning, Borbon belted a two-run homer to give the Vols an early lead. It was Borbon's third home run of the season and the seventh of his career.
Then following a single by Arencibia and a double by designated hitter Lockwood, Griffin slugged a three-run blast that put the Big Orange up by five. It was the Hollywood, Fla., native's sixth longball of the year.
Bullock lasted just 2/3 inning after allowing five runs on five hits. He gave way to fellow right-hander Patrick Keating. The two hurlers combined to face nine UT batters in the top of the first. Bullock was tagged with the loss to fall to 2-7 on the season.
Cobb, the lone senior on UT's roster, sat down the Gators in order in the bottom of the first, and the Vols plated one more run in the second to extend its lead to six runs. Arencibia enabled Borbon to score from third base with an RBI sacrifice fly. Borbon had previously singled, stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by UF catcher Cody Neer.
Keating unleashed a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the third that allowed Griffin to score from third base, giving Tennessee a 7-0 lead.
Florida's first real scoring threat came in the bottom of the fifth, as the Gators led off the frame with five consecutive basehits. UF shortstop Cole Figueroa drove in two with a single to centerfield, and the Vols then intentionally walked Gators first baseman Matt LaPorta to load the bases. Brian LeClerc followed with a grounder that resulted in an infield error, enabling a third run to cross. Florida's five hits in the inning, coupled with UT's second error of the game, helped the Gators trim their deficit to four runs, 7-3.
The Gators brought their top reliever, southpaw David Hurst, to the mound for the top of the sixth, but it proved futile as UT quickly erased Florida's fifth-inning rally with a pair of home runs. Arencibia unleashed a two-run blast that was followed by a solo shot by first baseman Yan Gomes. Arencibia's longball was his leading eighth of the season and the 33rd of his career, tying him for fifth place on UT's all-time list. Gomes' round-tripper was also his eighth of the season, tying him with Arencibia for the team lead.
Vols third baseman Cody Brown tacked on one more run for Tennessee in the sixth with a two-out, RBI basehit that gave UT an eight-run edge.
The Gators managed three runs in the seventh inning, during which Cobb was lifted after allowing six runs on 10 hits with four walks - two of which were issued intentionally to LaPorta - and three strikeouts through 6 1/3 innings. Tennessee will travel to Hoover Tuesday for the SEC Tournament. The Vols own an all-time record of 24-19 in that event, with their most recent appearance coming in 2005.

The Volunteers season came down to one game and they delivered. I think that they could be returning back to the College World Series for the first time since 2005.

i appreciate your optimism.. i HOPE so too :woot:

The Division 'B' bracket will include No. 2 seed North Carolina, No. 3 seed Virginia, No. 6 seed NC State and No. 7 seed Georgia Tech.

In the Division 'A' bracket, the top-seeded Seminoles, who tied a league-best 24-6 record in ACC action, will play Wednesday at 7 p.m. against eighth-seed Wake Forest. In addition to playing FSU, the Demon Deacons will hit the diamond against Clemson on Friday at 4 p.m. and then take on Miami at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Deacs went 1-2 against both Clemson and Miami during the 2007 regular season.

Clemson has added pressure heading into this week's tournament as the defending champion. The fourth-seeded Tigers (36-20, 18-12 ACC) finished runner-up in the Atlantic Division and will hit the field against No. 5 seed Miami, which compiled a 17-13 record for a fourth-place finish in the Coastal Division, on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Both teams met in the regular season with the Hurricanes taking two of three games from Clemson.

Playing in the Division 'B' bracket, the No. 2 seeded Tar Heels will meet seventh-seed Georgia Tech on Wednesday at 1 p.m. UNC wrapped up league play at 21-9 and picked up the Coastal Division title for the second year in a row. Georgia Tech placed third in the same division with a 15-14 ledger in ACC action.

The Tar Heels are also slated to face off Tobacco Road rival NC State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and then resuming action on Saturday against Virginia at 1 p.m. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets also play Thursday meeting Virginia at 4 p.m. before meeting NC State two days later on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

No. 3 seed Virginia and sixth-seed NC State will open up tournament action this year, as the two teams hit the field Wednesday at 10 a.m. UVa split with Boston College over the weekend in a series shortened by Mother Nature and posted a runner-up finish at 19-9 in the Coastal Division, while NC State (36-19, 16-14 ACC) notched two of three games against the Clemson Tigers for a third-place showing in the Atlantic Division. UVa and NC State have battled each other on the field this year, with the Wolfpack holding a 2-1 edge.

The two teams with the best record within their respective division brackets will advance to the Championship title game on Sunday, with the winner earning the Acc's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

In addition, all 13 games in this year's ACC Baseball Tournament will be televised for the first time in league history with Fox Sports Net South and SportsSouth providing live coverage. The league tournament will also be broadcast on four other networks, which includes FSN Florida, SUN Sports, Comcast and NESN. Check your local listing for more details.

So how far do you think USC will get if they make it in the College World Series?
to be honest i dont know.... i havent had the chance to keep up with them... the couple games i caught looked promising... but that was a while back.... i hope they do well... but we couldnt keep a lead on UCLA... so either our bully stinks or UCLA is that good.... either way we gonna need tons of fire.. to make an impact

So the Vols are facing the number one team in the Sec tournament. I think they are going to have their hands full.
