Alex Garland's Civil War

I mean, isn't that what the Handmaid's Tale is?

It won't be Right Wing Porn if the Conservatives are the villains getting their asses handed to them by the "liberal" characters.

I think Conservatives and swing voters avoid Handsmaid Tale as partisan paranioa where something like The Purge has a curiousity factor they can't resist.

And right wingers will laugh at any suggestion they'll lose a 2nd civil war. They're overconfident thanks to an abundance of guns and survivalist supplies. They know the blue areas are mostly cities that are somewhat isolated when it comes to food and fresh water. Also if a Republican president controls the military I don't see progressives winning considering they'll also be up against a paramilitary full of MAGAS.

I guess I'd prefer something that makes right wingers question what they're fighting for but not even Nazi Germany can accomplish that.:wall:

You'd be surprised how much of the military would not follow orders from a wanna be dictator. Least all my Marine friends have said so in the past.

Technically and aesthetically, this looks great, and the cast is amazing.

But the bizarre Texas/California alliance has me confused and concerned that Garland is going to willfully ignore actual socio-political divides to avoid being too controversial.

He probably is. What better way to make your film "not political" than to have two states who will never agree on anything band together?

I normally get excited for his stuff but after MEN, I'm hesitant. lol

I can see a way where it could work - the conservative portions of CA seize control with the backing of the cops and national guard, then ally themselves with TX. It could be a poignant (and realistic) commentary on the way liberals coddle law enforcement and the military despite claiming to support peace, justice and reform. Give us a scene where a Newsom-type is shocked to discover that years of giving the people with the guns more money hasn't magically turned them anti-fascist.

But I don't want to get my hopes up for anything that pointed.

This would be an incredible point to make.

Pretty underwhelming second trailer, but I’ll still see this opening weekend.

Yeah the second trailer felt more like a teaser. I still don’t know what to make of this movie. It looks well made but I have so many mixed feelings about this.

Wagner Moura's the poor man's Pedro Pascal.

Feels reductive, but go off.
