It seems to me that the whole point of this is to allow Russia to say that "their" country is being attacked by "outside" invaders. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he has a bit of a credibility problem in the international community when it comes to this particular issue. Taking something by force, calling it yours, and then complaining when someone tries to take it back generally elicits raised eyebrows and eye rolls.

Meloni may be very, very bad news and is going to do evil things to the people of Italy. However, she appears smart enough to see the value of the EU and NATO. Will that last, who knows. She does not appear to be on the side of Russia.
