The All-Encompassing AQUAMAN Movie Thread - Part 7

That new thread smell.

Still salty I won’t be able to see this at the Prime screening. I went to buy my tickets but realized it was the same day I’m gonna be traveling.

I always avoid spoilers for movies I’m pumped about but its gonna be tough for this one. I just finished Throne of Atlantis and want to know how closely they follow that story.

Jason hasn't seen the film yet, he promised his kids he will see it for the first time with them :D

He must have drunk so much during those 2,5h the others were watching the movie lol

Yeah, it's cool with Momoa, he looks like such a dude-bro d0uchesquirrel supreme, but comes off like a real decent/everyday guy.

Aquaman is going be slightly shorter when it plays on the big screen in the United Kingdom compared to other markets. Officially, it has just been given a 12A rating, meaning anyone under the age of 12 cannot see the movie unaccompanied. To obtain this rating, a certain scene with "bloody detail" needed to be removed, otherwise the movie was more likely to be classified 15. The studio acquiesced, and the unspecified scene was cut to allow for the movie to receive its desired UK rating. The goal here is to increase ticket sales as much as possible by making the movie as widely available as possible, though some fans might be annoyed to know the version they'll be seeing will be slightly shorter.

Even with this small edit, Warner Bros. is anticipating a high turnout for Aquaman across the globe. Early ticket sales have broken records, proving there's plenty of interest from filmgoers to see this movie. It's a great sign, considering how several DCEU movies have fallen well short of expectations. Movie critics who've seen advanced screenings have also come back with glowing reviews, which is also excellent news. The hope for everyone involved is that Aquaman will be as well-received as Wonder Woman, which seems to be the most well-received of the DCEU movies. A possible set-up to an ongoing series of Aquaman flicks, the superhero seems to be doing much better on his own than with the entire Justice League.

Aquaman has mostly been pictured as a kid-friendly superhero wearing bright colors. From horror director James Wan, this movie will be presenting a darker take on the character, whom we've previously been introduced to through Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. In the story, Aquamanaims to keep the planet protected from his half-brother, Orm. Game of Thronesstar Jason Momoa plays the titular superhero, with Patrick Wilson co-starring as Orm, otherwise known as Ocean Master. Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman are also playing prominent roles in the movie.

For its opening weekend, estimates are calling for Aquaman to pull in over $100 million. This would be the first movie to achieve such a high opening gross since June, when Jurassic Kindgom: Fallen World was able to do so. With some early reviews putting the movie on the same level of The Dark Knight, we seem to be looking at one of the most successful DC-based movies to come out in many years. Everything seems very bright for the movie's performance at this time, and hopefully it will be able to deliver on all this hype that is being projected onto the filmgoing public.

In the United States, Aquaman is rated PG-13. With a runtime of 143 minutes, the movie is releasing in theaters in the UK on Dec. 14. It will then premiere in US theaters soon after on Dec. 21. Given everything we know about it so far, it seems to be a movie that you will absolutely not want to miss. This information comes to us from Digital Spy.

That's bodes well for BO or legs I guess. Christmas time being family days out with kids and all. The more family friendly could entice people, but I hope it won't lessen the drama or intensity of those scenes.

What's BOT?

I looked it up before and I did see that come up but I just wanted to be certain.

"To obtain this rating, a certain scene with "bloody detail" needed to be removed,"
Yet another DCEU film I don't get to see as the director intended on the big screen. Once again we Scots are punished for not leaving the UK.

I'll need someone here to fill me in on what was cut after the release.

LOL they probably removed 3 seconds of a shot, stop the hysteria. Filmmakers edit out little bits for rating all the time

or you know, leave UK, apparently. Strange that UK demanded cut when USA didn't

I do that all the time too! :D
Sometimes I even let the discussion flow for a while to get more clues. :p

Now I'm curious about the UK edit, hope there will be somebody who somehow managed to see both version, and would make a list after the release.

Deadline is tracking 60-70 mln and TheWrap is tracking 100mln.....

Did Deadline poll the men and TheWrap women or what? :lmao:

I hope The Wrap is on the money with this one. Heard that they were the only one who predicted that WW would open +100M while the others put more modest opening numbers.

100mln OW is imho implausible. Unless Emily Blunt shoots a child or something and people who were going to see MPR go see this instead.

Ain't that the truth?
This Christmas release time is a total bloody red with green money bills on top of it. Hyped line of movies with good reviews (or good buzz) so far including Aquaman, MPR, Bumblebee, Into the Spider-Verse, and even Mortal Engine got decent social media reviews, all fighting for them holiday spending. There are also movies like Holmes and Watson, Marwen too.

This is a rare interesting situation.
