The Tennis Thread - Part 5

I was thinking the other day, how come there hasn’t been any major biopic movie about Arthur Ashe? We had one about the Williams dad but not Ashe, the only black man to win a singles title at Wimbledon and US Open? You would think there would be something about him by now in 2022.
True. Hopefully one day.

Raducanu wins her first round match but certainly didn’t have it her own way. Will be interesting to see how she does in her home tournament with a lot more support (and maybe pressure) than she will have had before.

Damn Raducanu in a tough spot here. Could be all over very soon.

And she's out. :csad:

I'll have to start cheering for Djok to go out to make up for it. :D

Not been a great year since her victory but will be interesting to see what she can do at the US on the surface and venue where she won but with the pressure of being defending champion.

Murray also dumped out by Isner so a great day for UK tennis lol.

Djokovic 2 sets down at moment to Sinner! Hopefully this dude can put him out :D (but never count Djok out till it’s officially over).

He comes back to win - how does he always do it? Can’t deny that he’s a top player with nerves of steel and great physicality at this age even if I want him
to lose lol.

Nadal injured but coming back in his match against Fritz.

Fritz leading 2-1 on sets now after taking the last one 6-3.

Dramatic here. 2-2 and 6-6 in the final set.

Nadal wins the tie break, another major comeback from these all time greats!

Damn, Nadal out of Wimbledon with injury.

Elena Rybakina wins Wimbledon. The irony. She is a Russian born in Moscow but the Russian tennis federation didn't think she had enough potential so they did not provide her any support for her career.

Kazakhstan decides to provide her with the support needed and she ends up representing Kazakhstan instead of Russia. This allows her to avoid the ban on Russian and Belarusian players participating in Wimbledon this year and she goes on to win the whole thing. The Universe has a sense of humor.

Oh wow, didn’t know all the background. All very ironic haha, congrats to her.

Also Wimbledon didn't want to have a Russian champion shaking hands with the Duchess of Cambridge, so today that's exactly what they got in all but name! :hehe:

Team Djokovic today! :D

Djok takes 1 set back against Kyrgios to level it up. I don’t particularly want either of them to win lol.

Well, one that was rejected by the Russian experts as not being skilled enough to be in their program. That’s why she was even able to play.
